Number one reason to hate Apollo, the sun god: he was the man to blame for sunburns and uneven tans.
Cameron was never favorable to any camp activities, but they were made even worse when they had to be done under the blistering sun. Not only did the heat bother him, but the short sleeves of his shirts also caused for a very unattractive farmer's tan. Which was just one of those things that he couldn't really deal with. Sure, a girlfriend dumping him? No problem, or at least after a while it wasn't. Burning himself on the rock wall spitting lava? Just fine. Getting cut up at sword practice? All good. But an uneven tan? That just wouldn't do.
And so, equipped with a beach towel, sunglasses, and his faded blue Los Angeles Dodgers hat, Cam wandered down to the lake so he could start working on perfecting his tan. He was a little pasty from spending so much time recently in his cabin, trying to decipher that prophecy (and admittedly avoiding a few people), so after a severe lecture from one of his sibling's on the importance of a good tan, he had finally agreed to venture out of the cabin.
Surveying the lake shore, Cameron picked out the smoothest section of sand and spread out his towel there. He tossed down his Dr. Pepper and bag of Twizzlers on top of the towel, creating even more wrinkles than there were before. It was a good thing that wrinkles only bothered him when they were present on his shirt..or face, but luckily wrinkles on his face was probably never going to be a problem. Another round of thanks to Aphrodite. It seemed like all he ever thanked her for were appearance related things, but that didn't seem to bother him.
Pulling his shirt over his head, the son of Aphrodite was quick to fold it up in a neat pattern before setting it down gently next to his towel. Without even looking at his upper arms, he already knew that the farmer's tan was most likely still there and that thought really didn't please him at all. Settling down on his beach towel, Cameron was finally ready to truly appreciate the sun's rays. Pulling his baseball cap low down over his face, he looked like he was about ready for Camp nap-time. Except instead of warm milk and cookies, he really would have preferred a crisp, icy cold, snow cone. The 'Donald Duck' flavor was his favorite, or at least it used to be when there was still a snow cone cart within walking distance. Oh yes those were good times...if only because his noticeably beautiful friend Kaitlin worked there in the summertime and she was hardly bothered by his flirting. Yes, life was much better when girls actually had the patience to put up with him.
Here, the girls, besides Harper, Julia and Delia (well kind of), generally tended to avoid him when they could manage it. He'd never thought of himself as that annoying-sure at least a little annoying-, but apparently everyone else thought differently. Especially that Natalie girl. He'd spent quite a bit of time thinking about it, but he honestly couldn't figure out why she hated him so much. He'd admit he'd been a little irritating at the dance, but even so it didn't really constitute that much hatred right off the bat. Now he could understand her hate for him, but only because ever since then all he did was provoke her..but he couldn't help it! She just made it so easy for him to rile her up..And she was damn cute when she was riled up.

There were three things Natalie hated most of all. She hated when people touched her stuff unless they had permission and even then she still did not trust a single person with any item that belonged to her. Especially since that Hephaestus kid stole her CD player and dismantled it. He rightfully deserved that black eye she gave him and the extra chores she got from Chiron as a direct result. But most of all Natalie hated the Aphrodite cabin. She had no problem with the others in camp and usually got along pretty well with the other cabins but she was never fond of Aphrodite. They were a bunch of snobs in Natalie’s opinion and the only thing Natalie hated more than a snob was a good-looking demi-god snob. They thought they were the Gods gift to Camp Half Blood.
With all of this animosity toward the kids of Aphrodite, Natalie found that one of them stayed in her mind. At least for the last few days Natalie couldn’t help but think about Cameron Hale. The son of Aphrodite had successfully burrowed his way into her subconscious. Everything she did reminded her of Cameron in some way. It was annoying. Why had this boy stayed in her head like this when she was absolutely positive that she hated him?
Natalie tousled her hair and pulled her boots on over top of her skinny jeans. Fashion was not just a Aphrodite specialty. Natalie liked to think she had a good sense in fashion. Camo wasn’t her favorite like most of her siblings but she was able to pull it off when need be. She would train later on after she went around camp in her newest clothing acquired from the Aphrodite cabin. Natalie wasn’t a thief, but she had a way of flirting with members of the Hermes cabin to do the stealing for her. So it wasn’t technically stealing, she was just accepting the gifts from the Hermes boys.
In order to get Cameron off her mind Natalie was determined to find another guy to mess with, potentially flirt with. No guy was able to handle her; at least that’s what Natalie thought. She thought it was great fun to see people’s reactions to her no boundaries. Natalie had to do something in order to stop thinking about Cameron. That pretty boy loser. [/i] Natalie was put into a grumpy mood just thinking about him. She fixed her shirt and left the cabin. She got her training done early that day and now she was ready for a bit fun and relaxation until she had to go train some more. Natalie caught sight of the Hermes boy who had gotten the boots for her. She waved at him and he flushed pink and turned back to his friends. Natalie pursed her lips only the slightest bit happy that she managed to make him blush but annoyed that he ignored her. She thought about going over to say something but then Natalie realized that he was talking with an Aphrodite girl and a few Apollo kids. She glared at the Aphrodite girl thinking of Cam and stalked off. Natalie mumbled a few things under her breath and marched off with the intention of going to the Arena to take her new frustration out on some of the dummies there. Nearing the lake now a group of young campers, whom Natalie recognized as being from the Apollo cabin, sprinted past her. She admired that cabin for their musical talents and actually enjoyed their singing during the fires. One of the younger one, probably about ten or eleven, tripped and skidded to the ground. His siblings kept pushing forward forgetting he was there. Natalie frowned and went over to assist him. She knelt down and checked his knees and hands. Grass stains on his skin, which hurt just as much as falling on concrete sometimes. He had tears in the corner of his eyes. Natalie smiled at him, “Hey it’s going to be fine. You’re not mortally wounded just going to bruise a bit.”Natalie stood up and held her hands out to the kid. He grinned back at her and accepted the help. For a moment he stood there just starring at her with that grin, but then Natalie waved her hand. “Go on better catch up with them.” He muttered a thank you and dashed off. Cute kid. She thought. With a sigh of satisfaction Natalie turned to the lake and froze. There was a boy, shirtless, sitting at the edge of the lake. As if the God’s were answering her prayers but then a split second after that thought she realized who she was starring at. It was Cameron Hale. Undeniable anger boiled inside of her. She could have walked away but Natalie marched over to his sunbathing spot. Standing over him with her hands on her hips full of that Ares girl attitude Natalie glared down at him. “Why am I not surprised to find you here?”[/size][/blockquote] WORD COUNT//838 OUTFIT// H E R ENOTES// love nat!

Cameron was very content with his tanning session. He was getting just the right amount of sun, enough to even out his tan, but not quite enough to make his skin sizzle. And there was a nice breeze every so often that kept him cool (and hopefully it didn’t mess up his hair). Everything was perfect, and he was even considering taking a little nap to catch up on his sleep. That was until someone so rudely decided to step in, casting a shadow over him. Apparently some people just didn't understand the importance of a good tan. That or they understood, they simply just didn't care. Which was even worse!
“Excuse me, kid, but you’re blocking my-“ He cut himself off as he pulled his hat down past his eyes. Well, well, well, what a lovely surprise. Looking down at him was a very beautiful, but very pissed off looking Natalie Ramsey. To be honest, he hadn’t been expecting to see her until the quest, when she would actually be forced to associate with him. Until then he was expecting she would avoid him like he was a disease. Which may have almost been preferable since she was looking at him like he had already personally offended her by just existing. And well perhaps he had…but he really would rather offend her by actually doing something other than just sitting there. It was just more entertaining that way.
“I don’t know.” He shrugged, uncapping his Dr. Pepper and taking a sip of it. “While we’re asking pointless questions though…Why am I disappointed to see that you’re not in a bikini?” Cameron replied cheekily, fully aware that he was now practically asking to get slapped across the face. He’d decided that was okay though, because now her anger at him was at least deserved. And if she only slapped him then at least the red hand print would fade after thirty minutes or so. Punching was completely different though, that would leave a bruise, and that he wasn't okay with, so hopefully she preferred slapping over punching.
Climbing lazily to his feet, Cam easily towered over the little Ares girl by at least five inches or more. Even though he had the height advantage...he was still postive that she could kick his ass if she really wanted to. He wasn't even going to kid himself into thinking that he could beat her at any sort of physical competition. ..Maybe if they had a competition over who had the nicer hair. That one, he could win. Not because she didn't have nice hair-because she did, for a daughter of Ares at least-,but because he had better hair.
"...You smell nice," Cameron inhaled as another gust of air brushed past him, sending the scent of whatever perfume Natalie was wearing right at him. "What're you wearing?" He inquired, using his curiosity over her perfume as an excuse to lean in a little closer to her. "Besides one of my sisters' shirts of course." The son of Aphrodite chuckled quietly as he gave a quick assessment of Natalie's clothing. The shirt he could recognize, if only because he remembered tripping over it in his own cabin about a week ago. The more he thought about it..those boots looked pretty familiar as well...Oh well, she wore them both much better than his sisters ever could.
"Never pictured you as a thief, Miss Ramsey. But oh well, now I guess we have something in common," He winked at her flirtatiously, feeling very little concern about the fact that she must have knicked some things from his own cabin. Cam had stolen quite a few things from other cabins too, but nothing too important. Just things like chips, and some homemade cookies, and when his supply was running low, Twizzlers. Basically he only ever stole when he was hungry and needed some something to snack on (which was often...he was a growing boy, after all!). He didn't feel all that bad about it though, Delia and some of her siblings had taught him how to steal in an efficient manner. And well why have the skill if you weren't going to use it?

It didn’t go unnoticed that Cameron was completely shirtless. In fact that was the first thing to catch Natalie’s attention, second was his abs. She managed to keep a placid look on her face and the red flush out of her cheeks. Her mind was screaming though. Was it her punishment for something she did that this guy had to be perfect and yet so unbearably annoying? She drummed her fingers arching a brow at him. Natalie was quite good at keeping a poker face on, usually not so much around Cameron but she was really pissed that he could get to her like that.
Natalie was usually a casual flirter with many of the guys around camp. It was a fun way to pass time, but with every sentence or movement Cameron made, Natalie found herself wanting to strangle him. Or kiss him. It was very confusing. And with the bikini comment, Natalie took a great breath and rolled her eyes. “Only in your pathetic dreams Pretty Boy.” she said through gritted teeth. Why had she even bothered to come over? It was possible Natalie was a glutton for punishment, or that there was in fact a strange attraction to this Aphrodite boy that she needed to figure out. She hated him and yet he was all she could think about.
Standing, Cameron was taller than her. No problem, Natalie puffed out her chest and made herself as tall as she could. She still didn’t match him, but she didn’t need to be tall to be intimidating. Her lip curled up in snarl, her heart fluttered a little but her blood boiled. This constant push and pull going through her mind and body was not fun in the very least. She scoffed, “It’s called soap, you should try it sometime Ken. Also, you’re sister wasn’t using it. Once I took it from her. Not like her daddy’s credit card won’t buy her another one.”
He winked again. She hated when he did that. Her cheeks betrayed her and flushed a light pink. Natalie made a small audible growl before forcing a smile to her face. It was strained almost looking painful. He was getting to her again. She couldn’t let him see her so mad, he might continue his…perfectly…adorable…annoying…charm if he knew it angered her. She would have to play his game. After a minute Natalie sighed and a more relaxed expression crossed her face. She tilted her head to the side a sudden playful glint to her eye.
“I have my own ways of acquiring things Mr. Hale.” she said with her own wink. “Oh please, like you’re a thief. And don’t even think about giving me that crap about a thief of girl’s hearts. I’m sure that line only works in cheesy romance novels. Though, you’d fit perfectly into that smut.” Natalie was a bit harsh in everything she said but the girl had managed to keep a lightness to her tone. If Natalie could hardly handle five minutes with the guy without getting angry or excited how in the name of Hades was she going to deal with him on a quest for an undisclosed amount of time? Cameron may have been one of the more tolerable children of Aphrodite-obviously not to Natalie though-but he still maintained a certain level of cockiness when it came to his looks. He looked good, he knew it, and he used that to his advantage often. And right now, while she would never admit it, Cam could confidently assume that she was checking him out at least a little. "You know that saying 'You can look, but you can't touch'?" He asked, posing the question as a strictly rhetorical one, because oh he had a great follow-up for that one. A follow-up that was sure to get her all riled-up...or well just more riled-up then she probably already was on the inside. "Well, for you, angel, the latter doesn't have to apply if you don't want it to." He waggled his eyebrows, only half-kidding. He really wouldn't have minded a kiss courtesy of her, but that was about as likely to happen as a zombie apocalypse.
As much as the daughter of Ares disliked him, he couldn't help the strange fascination he had with pestering her, and well, just her in general. Other people may have found it odd, considering she treated him like he was the scum of the earth, but he was sure anyone who actually understood the concept of love or simply attraction, would understand his little 'crush'. Though he still didn't like the term crush because that just made him sound like a pathetic little junior high kid. Not to mention, Cameron Hale didn't have crushes on girls, girls had crushes on him. That was just how it was supposed to work. And anything different just threw him a little off-balance.
"Oh you have no idea, beautiful." He winked at her jokingly. Though technically she had actually been in one of his dreams. And true to her actual character, in that dream, she had broken his nose. Needless to say it wasn't a very pleasant dream. Especially when he woke up and for a moment he actually thought his nose was broken, which would have been very unattractive.
Cameron wasn't sure if Natalie was just trying to be cute, or if she was just that way naturally. Probably the second though, considering she was obviously pissed off and was just trying to look all threatening and scary..though that really backfired on her because he just found her all the more adorable. "Hey, I smell perfectly nice. Like peppermint, actually," He smiled, inclining his head forward so they were a little closer to eye-level. Even with her efforts of trying to make herself look taller, he still had several inches on her. "Not entirely true, I have a few siblings who are actually on the financially, shall we say, challenged side."
"Your own way? ...So that would be blackmail or threats?" He raised an eyebrow questioningly. "A thief of girls' hearts? Ah no, that sounds like something you just stole from a Nicholas Sparks novel. Or from some of that 'romantic smut' as you call it." Cameron may have been a little cheesey and corny sometimes, but not nearly that cheesey. And hey, whenever he was that cheesey, most girls thought it was endearing! Why couldn't she be like most girls? Oh that's right, because then Cameron wouldn't be nearly as attracted to her. He liked those one-of-a-kind girls, which Natalie most certainly was. "And actually I am a relatively good thief. My ex was a daughter of Hermes, so she taught me a lot of the tricks of the trade."

Natalie was another two seconds away from either punching the stupid smug and cute look off of Cameron’s face or grabbing his face in her hands and planting a kiss on him. It unsettled Natalie a little when she realized two options were flying through her head. She set her jaw trying not to let it show on her face that she had just thought about kissing Cameron Hale. It was impossible. He annoyed her so much there was no possible way that she could like him for anything other than target practice.
And when he called her ‘angel’ Natalie’s stomach did a nervous and excited back flip. She shouldn’t be so worked up over this tool. If things kept up in this fashion that quest was going to be awfully hard. Especially if she had to put up with one of his sisters that was one thing Natalie was not looking forward to. Natalie held her hand up to stop Cameron from talking, “The only I would touch you with Cameron, is the tip of a spear or sword. Or with my hands clenched into fist. It’s up to you really.” Though bruising that face would be a shame.
He winked. Again. Natalie fumed both agitated and flattered at the comment about her being considered beautiful. Any guy would be met with cruel amounts of flirting and even the invasion of personal space. Natalie was afraid to give this infuriating Aphrodite boy the wrong idea…or the right one. She made a sound of disgust and rolled her eyes. He was right though. He did smell faintly of peppermint. Not the point. She cleared her mind of trying to take in the smell further and pushed a strand of loose hair from her face.
“Oh what? They’re daddies only give them a 1000 dollars to spend instead of 2000? Please. And I have been known to blackmail and threats work quite well in certain situations.” She tugged a little on the shirt her nose lifted high in the air, proud of her sticky little Ares fingers…and those quick hands of the Hermes cabin. Natalie folded her arms across her chest offended that he would think she spent her time reading Nicholas Spark or any kind of romance novel in general. Natalie didn’t waste her time with such things. At least in front of her brothers and sisters. They would mock her for it and Natalie couldn’t give so many black eyes before her hand started to hurt.
Ex? As in x-girlfriend? As in a girlfriend he had previous? As in a girl who he had feelings and relations with prior to this meeting or any of the others? Natalie cleared her throat and tossed her head back a little. Natalie tried not to get involved with any kind of relationship gossip in camp so she had no idea who he might have been with before. This tiny bit of information made Natalie more irritable than before if it was at all possible.
“Like you need to steal anything. I bet you just bat your eyes and flip your gorgeous highlighted hair and people just bring you things, or hand things over to you. It’s not stealing if people willingly give you gifts! Life is just so easy for you Aphrodite kids, the only thing you need to worry about is running out of hair gel. Watch out! The world is ending I can’t style my hair today!” She finished her rant and took a deep breath holding it for a moment before letting it out calming herself down a little. For his own safety, it probably would've been best if Cameron had just cut his losses and given up right then. In the long run, it would probably save his face from a bruise or a black eye, and his ego from being cut down. His resolve to keep chasing after this girl who so clearly despised him was weakening with every big crack at his attempts at flirting. But surprisingly it seemed that every thing that jabbed at his enthusiasm, also encouraged it at the same time. Every little insult hurt, but every little glare or scowl that accompanied it amused him to no end. Things that were meant to be intimidating simply counted as endearing to Cam. Insanity setting in? Perhaps. Though if this was insanity, he didn't think it was half as bad as everyone claimed it was.
Raising his eyebrows in amusement, Cameron tried not to chuckle at her for fear that it'd result in a swift kick to his shin which remained unprotected. He hadn't seen anyone use that hand gesture since his little sister Daniella, who had always accompanied it with the saying 'talk to the hand'. He almost expected those words to slip out of Natalie's mouth, but instead it was just another dig at his flirty comment. He had a perfect response to it too, but it hardly seemed appropriate so instead he kept it to himself and settled for something less amusing. And a little more cheesy, but he made it work with his exaggerated sigh and goofy smile. "I'll settle for the fist, at least when you beat my senses out of me, I can delude myself into thinking I passed out from the intoxicating affect your presence has on me."
"Allergic to peppermint?" He made a face, feigning confusion at her reaction. Of course that wasn't why she reacted the way she had, he knew that, he wasn't that thick. Surely she knew that too...well maybe she assumed he really was that moronic, but that was quite far from the truth.
Like he always did, Cam felt the need to defend his siblings. Some were more tolerable than others, though most were unbearable..but they were still family, and they still meant something to him. And no matter how hot this girl was, he wasn't just going to shut his mouth while she grumbled on about his siblings. Right? Well she looked pretty damn hot in that-No, focus. He shook his head slightly, while drawing himself back to reality. "More like their parents have fallen into that sticky trap of unemployment," He replied, his voice a little more cool this time. It was actually true too, not just some move to try and put up a defense for his half-siblings. One or two of them were actually faring quite poorly, so he would admit that he had funneled a bit of cash from his own back account into theirs. With Daniella's old medical bills finally paid off, his family had plenty of money to spare so he just went from helping one sibling to helping others.
The first thing that came to Cam's mind was..."It's not highlighted, all natural." Of course, that would be the thing he'd pick to defend. However, as soon as he stupidly blurted that out, the other little points started to pick at him. Snorting, Cam attempted to appear calm when in reality, he was actually rather...well for lack of a better phrase, pissed off. "Life's so easy for us, hm? No problems except ones that involve hair products? Try, my ex-girlfriend dumped me in a notecard. Let's try again, my little sister died of cancer. Oh and try, since then, my dad hasn't been sober for a full 24 hour period." His face remained impassive for the duration of his little response-rant, but his cool demeanor slipped for a millisecond somewhere between the mention of cancer and the lack of sobriety. And his voice level was noticeably a lot louder since he had begun speaking. Clearing his throat, and giving his head a subtle shake, clearly trying to quell his emotions before he said another thing. He hadn't meant to snap like he had, but it was rather hard not to when she just went berating him because his life was supposedly so effortless and perfect. Not to mention her timing was rather terrible.
"...S-sorry." The word slipped out quietly, and the stutter was unexpected even by him. But he'd been having somewhat of a tough week, it always was tough around this time of year. Because about six days from today, was the anniversary of the day Daniella passed away.

Natalie felt a small bit of bile rise from her stomach and into her mouth. She swallowed and cleared her throat. Cameron had just made her vomit in her mouth a little. While the goofy grin sent her head spinning his words made her stomach want to expel her lunch. She scowled at him. “You are sick.” she spat. “No, I’m allergic to stupid and you seem to be radiating it.”
That and hotness. She kept the thought to herself though. Cameron was extremely good looking, and this was something Natalie had admitted to herself before. Even a blind person could see how good-looking Cameron was. He was the son of Aphrodite. Anything less than hot would be an abomination. Sometimes his looks were distracting. She just didn’t let herself get caught up in it all the time, lest she actually start showing feelings toward him other than detestation.
Natalie tried to resist the urge to roll her eyes but it was proving impossible. “Please, that’s about as natural as Ares is naturally nice.” She folded her arms across her chest. She wasn’t saying that his hair was bad looking, cause again going back to looks Cameron was pretty much earning an A+ in that department. Natalie wasn’t as shallow as to go for guys with good looks, they had to be strong and able to handle her. Natalie had yet to find a guy who would be able to handle her attitude and often diva kind of personality. Natalie knew she was a handful and her temper got out of control sometimes. That’s why flirting was always the better option to a relationship to her. No guy would ever want to stick around to be with her.
The anger on Natalie’s face fell into shock at Cameron’s anger. This fun bit of teasing and spouts of immense dislike had turned into a serious situation. She had actually offended Cameron and in a matter of two minutes managed to learn a few extremely personal, dark, things about Cameron’s life. She stood there silent. Unable to come up with a witty retort or smartass remark to come back at him with. Natalie could be cruel, but she didn’t like touching personal issues such as family especially finding out that he sister died of cancer.
Natalie pushed a strand of hair out of her face and stared at the ground. She felt guilty for snapping at him minute prior. Of course, Natalie didn’t want to show exactly how much this had affected her. She looked down at her nails trying to figure out what to say. “Look,” she said roughly. “I didn’t mean to send you into breakdown mode, okay? I’m just…your siblings like to act like everything revolves around them. From an outsiders point of view it’s like everything is easy for you all. Like none of you have any problems.”
Natalie kicked at the ground working her way around actually saying the word “sorry”. She sighed. “I didn’t know all that crap had happened to you in your life, otherwise I would have just kept my mouth shut. It sucks that you’ve had to go through that.” She still avoided the actually word. “Don’t apologize, I snapped at you.” Natalie rolled her eyes. “Guess your life isn’t filled with trips to the mall and tanning salon and the beach like I thought it would.” Natalie pursed her lips and wrapped her arms tighter around her stomach, feeling vastly uncomfortable with the entire situation. “I couldn’t imagine losing my younger brother…” Natalie said more softly. She honestly didn’t know what she’d do if Matthew had died. WORD COUNT//605 OUTFIT// H E R ENOTES//hot dog, I’m back!
