"Yeah, I know," he growled. Ryan also knew that out of the two of them, it was only Nike who was making an effort. Did he want to? Yes? No. Maybe? Absolutely not. SHUT UP! He gritted his teeth, not knowing what to do. Again. Become nice, or stay mean. From what he was beginning to see, he was starting to half rub off on Nike, or she was just ticked at him. He didn't really care though, did he? Yeah. No. Yes. No not at all. Ryan gave up on telling himself to shut it.
"Glad you're that perceptive," he snarled. He narrowed his eyes slightly as she held it for him instead of slapping him in the face with it. Which, he had suspected, entirely, that she would of. He shrugged. "True," he said. "And half of the things you call me in French, I don't think I want to know," he said, rolling his eyes. "Well, at least you've had one hundred and some odd years to pick it up from other people," he snapped. "I've got like, what? Thirty?"
"Well, yeah. They don't let you out. But I've been thinking of just running off it lately," he ended in a half grumble. "Leave this living Hades," he said, glaring at nothing in particular. Wait. Did he just tell her his plan to...?Then he glared at her as her words stopped his train of thought before he could continue and give himself a mental slap. "Let's see you try being a mortal and escaping Kath's place to go look for a friend that's disappeared on you," he snarled. "I lost count on how many times I tried. I almost did pull it off once, but couldn't after that," he muttered.
He looked at her as she stepped on something. Normally he would of snickered or smirked or said a smart comment instead, he gave a slight grimace and: "You alright?" he came out of his mouth. He tilted his head to the side slightly. He made a slightly disgusted face. "Uh..." he said, staring at the gold blood. There's something you don't see every day. "Well, that was sort of...interesting..." He shrugged. "Gold's alright I guess." Now he was going to give himself a mental hit. He was starting to lean into being nice again. And he was going soft.
Ryan still had his eyes shut. Ow, that smarted. Felt like getting hit with a cup all over again by the Notos boy. He heard Nike start to laugh and giggle. At least he could provide some amusement for her. He guess it did serve him right, besides, she was pretty ticked at him from her voice. Ryan felt rubbed his head again. Thankfully, he hadn't gotten a concussion or anything to serious. Maybe just a bump or bruise would be there later on. Looking from her point of view, he could see how she saw humor in this. He was tough and mean and everything, and it takes a branch to take him down. "Glad you find humor in it Ed," he muttered, still rubbing where he got hit. He tried opening his eyes, he saw stars, then they focused on the goddess a few feet away. Then it hit him again. He was with Nike. Not Edmund. And he called her Ed. Again. Why did she remind him so much of his past best friend? He gave himself a mental kick. "Never mind," he muttered, dropped eye contact with the goddess, and then started to move again.

Nike almost scoffed at his response but then decided against it as she looked over at him again. His face seemed past the point of confused. "Going insane there?" She asked, noticing the look of an internal argument. She'd had them with herself a couple times before. Okay, she had them frequently actually. It was almost one of those daily occurences.
"True, mon cherie." The brunette admitted, the outlines of objects starting to fade away as darkness continued to consume the forest. "What? planning to die before you've turned fifty?" She asked suspiciously, the idea of him committing suicide returning to her mind. Not like he was the brightest crayon in the bunch, so if she was being honest, she could almost see it.
"Planning to escape, eh? Well now would be a perfect oppurtunity." The goddess pointed out, knowing perfectly well that she was balancing just on the border line. "A couple more steps this way and you're home free. The camp 'guards' will just blame me but hey it's not like they're actually going to try and punish me. I'm a goddess so they probably won't even complain." She added knowingly. They would blame her, but the camp people wouldn't say one word about it. They'd just pretend like Ryan had slipped through on his own. "Then you can go find Alex," The goddess suggested, climbing up onto one of the lower but sturdier branches and taking a seat. "Come on," Nike offered, patting the spot on the branch next to her.
Nike's eyes widened slightly, curious at why he had even bothered to ask if she was okay. Though there did seem to be a genuine sense of concern in his voice. "Yeah, I'm okay," She replied, wondering if he would have actually done if she wasn't. "Thanks though," Her voice softened again slightly. Maybe this was his effort towards the friendship.
The giggling continued for a couple of minutes and the goddess attempted to stop it, covering her mouth with her hands. "Alright.." She took a deep breath as the giggles finally seemed to subside. "Sorry...That was kind of mean...You alright?" Nike asked, returning the concern. "Looks like it's going to bruise up later." The immortal pointed out, brushing lightly at his forehead. [/blockquote]

"You could call it that," Ryan muttered, half hearing what she had just asked him. He was just going to live with it. His mind in enteral conflict with himself. Stay nice, or not. He fought a lot with himself. He wanted to become nice again... or he didn't. He wanted to learn to trust... or he didn't. Internal conflict, for what seemed like forever. He bet he was still going to be having one when he went into Hades. It used to only happen once or twice, but now it was all day every day for him.
The fifteen year old half rolled his eyes. "Knew it," he muttered. Now he didn't even want to know what Mon Cherie meant. He was thinking that it was going to be her nickname for him now. Something that annoyed him. Something that he wouldn't know what she was saying. That good stuff. He looked around, it was starting to get dark. He looked at her and did mental math. Well, he'd be close to fifty. He shrugged. "Dunno," he said. "I thought most demigods didn't last long," he said off handedly.
Ryan looked at her. "Yeah...been thinking about doing it for a while, but I never did do it," he muttered. "Maybe..." he grumbled, looking out as far as he could in prospect of seeing the boundary line. He sighed. "I know..." he muttered. He looked at her and the next couple of words he said, he felt like someone else was talking. "Nah, you can stay out of it. Don't want you getting you blamed for an idea I've had in my head and I just finally just did it." Mental kick again. "Besides," he said, his voice getting slightly rougher. "They'd be happy that I was gone," he said, shrugging.
He nodded and looked out sort of wistfully as she mentioned that he may find Alex. "Yeah..." he said. "Maybe," he muttered. He looked up as Nike climbed onto a branch. He had tried out tree climbing a bit in at his aunt's place. He was actually surprised that she never taught him to climb trees. He was getting better at it, but he wasn't exactly good at it yet. He grabbed the branch and hoisted himself onto it, scrambled a bit and then finally managed to get on. Okay, that went better than planned, he thought he'd loose his balance at first.
"Oh, alright," Ryan said, shrugging slightly and still kicking himself mentally. It wasn't like he was Mr. Healing Hands or anything, but his aunt had taught him the basic healing stuff, bandaging, some herbs, splinting. He was horrible at it though. Kath had expected him to take care of his own wounds after she had taught him. Apparently, he hadn't. There was that one time though were she did take over and tie him to a bed, though. That had been the worst two weeks of his life. He shrugged. "No problem," he muttered off handedly.
He rolled his eyes. "Had your jollies?" he asked. "Eh, forget it," he said, shaking it off. "I'm fine," he said, slight defiance blazed in his eyes for a second then disappeared. "I'll live," he muttered, not bothering to whack her hand away or anything.

"Is this internal conflict something I can help with?" She asked, trying to offer some help. Although, it was unlikely that he would take it. That would be admitting he needed help, which according to him he didn't. Of course, it was pretty obvious that he did. "Or like one of those, I've got to handle it on my own things?" Nike asked, a twinge of mocking almost sneaking into her voice but she had managed to keep it out with some effort.
"Expect anything less?" She asked, her voice leaning towards teasing but not quite there. She was still partially miffed at him. The goddess already knew that he was annoyed by the 'mon cherie' thing but she didn't really mind, she was going to use that because she wanted to and he could just deal with it. "Not if they don't have a positive attitude, and I'd like to point out that they last longer if they have a goddess who happens to be their friend."
Nike's lips twitched and her smile was back. "Awww...How sweet is that?!" She held her hands up against her heart to show how touched she was. "If it makes you feel better, I'd miss you, mon cherie." The familiar twinkle returned to her eyes. She couldn't honestly say that other people wanting him gone was a lie. She was positive that some of them did. Of course she wasn't going to point that out to him.
"Graceful," A hint of sarcasm crept into her voice but it was contradicted with a smile. Another suprise, actually. She hadn't expected him to sit next to her. "If you want, I could try and help out.." Her voice trailed off, the offer there, but also waiting for rejection.
"You know something Ryan?" She asked, even though it was more of a rhetorical question. "I think you're actually pretty cool, when you're not being a total pain in my butt of course." Nike grinned, nudging him playfully again. Although she had already figured out that he didn't really know how to respond to being playful.
"Forgotten once again," The goddess mumbled, swinging her legs back and forth over the edge of the branch. Leaning against the edge of the tree, she closed her eyes, liking the feel of a breeze against her face. [/blockquote]

Ryan thought. "No," he muttered as she asked if she could help with it. "Not really..." he muttered. He was surprised that she wasn't mocking him or being sarcastic. He thought it was still relatively obvious that she was still quite ticked at him. This was going to drive him crazy one of these days. He exhaled out his nose. He was leaning towards becoming soft. He knew it, not that he really liked it a tremendous amount, but it was okay.
"Not at all," he grumbled. She'd be calling him names that annoyed him until the day he died, probably. He was probably pegged as Mon Cherie in her book. He looked at her, his eyes narrowing slightly. "Positive attitude thing isn't going to happen," he grumbled, a slight growl creeping into his voice. Then he shrugged. "Perhaps," he said neutrally. Part of the conflict. Did he want friends anymore?
He bit his tongue. "Glad you think so," he muttered, still kicking himself for saying that. He looked at her slightly, thinking of her still, in theatre. That had sounded like he cared. Which he did. Didn't. Did. No. Yes. Not. Yes! He exhaled through his nose. He was going to go crazy like this, wasn't he? He looked at the goddess. "Sure you would," he grumbled, trying to sound sarcastic, but not really making it. No one else would care, and he knew it. They'd either not care, or be throwing parties and hoping something killed him.
"Yeah, yeah, I know," he said, a slight growl in his voice. "Never really got around to being a tree climbing expert," he said, shrugging. He looked at her as she offered to help. He'd just be on his own if he said no. But then again, that was what he wanted, right? Yes. No. Yeah, its you. No, you want to go back. He wish he could just make a decision. "Sure, if you want," he found himself saying. It felt like someone else was saying it again. "I mean, if its not to much trouble or whatever and stuff..." he said, still feeling that it wasn't him talking. Oh gods, he gave himself another mental kick.
He considered knocking his head on the trunk or something to make sure that he wasn't dreaming. But then again, he didn't, or couldn't have any imagination. So if he couldn't even dream something up mild or anything, it was a very slim chance that he could dream up an explanation for something as wild as this. There was just one possible answer: He was slipping and going back to how he used to be. When he did have friends. He looked at her, detecting a rhetorical tone in her voice. He gave a slight shrug. "Me being a pain which would be almost all times," he said, rolling his eyes slightly. "And you're not to bad yourself," he grumbled. What the heck was getting into him?He still didn't really know how to react as she gave him a playful shove. He nodded as she said it was already forgotten. "Suspected that," he grumbled.

Nike nodded silently, figuring there wasn't much she could really say to that besides 'Uh,ok'. Which, frankly, would just sound stupid and make her look even more stupid than she probably already did. He kind of made her feel more than a little idiotic sometimes but she didn't mind so much. It was almost refreshing. Almost. At least it was better then being around the stuck-up gods of Olympus. "I figured it wouldn't, just doesn't seem like you." Nike replied as though this was obvious. Although, it really was. It's not like Ryan was going to become Mary Poppins anytime in his life time. Of course Nike wasn't always a picnic in the park either. Maybe she was a salad at a buffet. Some people liked it, some people hated it, sometimes it was preferred, sometimes it was just skipped over. Never as delicous as the entree and never as decadent as the dessert. Perfect metaphor for herself.
"I would, I mean it! After all...you're my little mon cherie." She stated, totally serious about the whole thing. Another thing caught her attention, his attitude was diminishing. There wasn't any growling, glaring or even an overwhelming amount of sarcasm! "Okay no I wouldn't. But only because I'd just ditch this place and follow you, silly!" Nike smiled enthusiastically, her mood greatly improving from five minutes ago. It was easy for her to be happier when he was being nice and a sweetheart. Well not quite a sweetheart, but as much as he would ever be.
The goddess shrugged slightly, who really did spend their time becoming an expert tree climber? Oh wait...I think I just unintentionally insulted myself. Nike pondered, pursing her lips together thoughtfully. But she decided to just ignore that thought. Whatever. As Ryan would say. "I'd love to and helping out a friend is never any trouble at all." She smiled, happy that he had actually accepted her help with something. She was definately not going to let the Ares kid down. He had been let down enough already. "So long as we can adopt our dog first," Nike looked at him with a puppy dog look. "Please, please, pllllllllllleaaaase!" She pleaded, her purple eyes round.
"Well you're okay when you're a pain then too." The goddess amended, determined not to let Ryan flip this into an insult of sorts. "And thank you very much," She blushed red slightly. Him calling her not that bad was the closest she was going to get to a compliment from him. "I'm not going to be nosy, I know it annoys you." That's why she always said it was forgotten. Some people didn't like to be pushed on things and she understood that. Nike opened her eyes slightly, the last bit of sun fading on the horizon. [/blockquote]

Ryan sighed his legs dangling over the side of the branch. Did he want to change? Well, it was happening right now, weather he liked it or not. He was slowly becoming almost nice. It was sickening to him, but it was true. He was starting to soft on Nike, he just hoped he wouldn't on anyone else. Him becoming nice was just...wrong in his mind. "Yeah, guess not," he muttered, not really focused on what she was saying. His mind was still hitting back and forth between being nice or becoming mean again. He wanted to become mean again, but as of now, he saw it not happening.
"Sure," he grumbled, still not really that sarcastic. Yup, now he knew that she was calling him something that would annoy him very much. Now he wasn't interested in learning the language she was talking. It'd probably get him angry if he knew what she was really calling him. He shrugged. "True," he grumbled. How could she miss him if she was tailing him around? Good and bad about having a goddess as a friend. One, she couldn't really leave him. That was both the good and bad part. Gee, her mood had improved from a few moments ago. He had this feeling that it had something with him softening up. He sort of hated himself for doing it, but it wasn't really hurting him.
The fifteen year old blew out, wishing he had learned how to climb trees better. It was actually quite useful if you thought about it. He looked at her and just nodded slightly. It felt weird, asking for help. Having someone call you their friend, that was probably the weirdest. He hadn't had anyone care about him for nine years and then all of the sudden, Nike did. Either there was something with her (there probably was as she reminded him a lot of Edmund) or it was him and he was starting to go soft. It was probably more Nike than him. Dog. Right. He exhaled and rolled his eyes slightly. "Oh, fine," he said.
"Eh, not really," he said. He knew, normally he would of flipped. But he was starting to crumble. And he knew it. He knew he was a huge pain. Temper or not. He gave a slight shrug. "No problem," he grumbled. Closest thing to a complement he had given in a very long time. Ryan gave a shrug. "Yeah, sometimes," he grumbled.

Nike yawned slightly, covering her mouth to lessen it. "It's not horrible being nice, you know." She mumbled crossing her arms over each other. "You're actually pretty cool when you're nice," The goddess smiled, shifting on the tree, so she was sitting sideways on the branch instead. It was seemingly less comfortable but she liked to be able to see people when she was talking to him.
"Only if you want me to though..." The immortal trailed off, pulling her knees up to her chest and resting her head on her knees. "I mean it's not like I'm purposefully going to tag along just to annoy you." She clarified. Although she could see herself doing that to plenty of people. But lots of those people deserved to be annoyed anyways. Plus if she did follow him, he would probably just get really annoyed and start yelling and growling and muttering sarcastically again. Just because he was currently being nice didn't mean it was going to stay like that forever.
The goddess smiled happily as he agreed to get the dog with her. She simply adored dogs. They were just so cute! Not to mention loyal, playful and usually always happy. Nike figured that having a dog would probably do Ryan a lot of good. Even though she could tell he wasn't too keen on the idea now. "One more request." Nike piped up, giving him another one of her best pleasing expressions. She hesitated slightly before she asked her question. "Can we go get he/she now?" The girl requested, sticking out her lower lip hopefully. "Then we can do whatever you want! Pinky promise!" She offered excitedly, extending her arm and offering him her pinky. Though she wasn't even sure that he knew what a pinky promise was. "And I swear like anything!" She repeated.
"No need to be hard on yourself. Think of how much worse you could be. You could be...Hitler." Nike amended, biting down on her lip yet again. "Or....the Jonas Brothers." She nodded her head, her expression the perfect impression of a serious face. [/blockquote]

Ryan looked at her as she talked to him. She did have a point. It wasn't hurting and it actually felt sort of good that he was able to talk to someone. He gave a slight shrug. "Sometimes it is," he grumbled, lowering his gaze slightly. Being nice lead him to caring and then when he cared usually bad things happened to the person that he cared about. That had lead him to become closed and mean and stubborn and...you get the picture. What he was now, basically. He had become a complete monster thanks to him caring and to his aunt. His eyes elevated slightly and he gave a nod. It was weird getting these sort of positive things said about him.
"Yeah, you can," Ryan said, looking at her. He had no idea why he was agreeing to this...he'd probably just snap back into his usual self again. Maybe tonight he was just out of it, he'd snap back to his usual self...sometime. "Yeah, I know," he said, nodding. But he could see it happening. Not intentionally on her part. It was just her, like it was him to snap at any little thing. Usually. For some reason, it wasn't happening tonight. Hopefully, him staying nice wouldn't last forever.
He blew out. He had to agree to the dog. Once again he considered knocking his head against the tree to make sure he wasn't hallucinating or dreaming or anything. But as he figured with himself before. He couldn't imagine something as wild as this. He stared at her. "Now?" he asked her incredulously. "No," he said, rolling his eyes slightly. "Wouldn't the shelter be closed or whatever?" he asked. He hoped to the gods they were. "How about I meet you at the border tomorrow?" he asked.
The fifteen year old shrugged. He had been hard on himself practically his whole life. Guilt was a difficult emotion to erase. "Who?" he asked blankly. He rolled his eyes. Jonas Brothers. "Yippie for me," he said flatly.

Nike shrugged, getting how he could see that. Sometimes people weren't exactly too nice in return. In fact, some people were downright mean. Example A...Sitting in front of her. Well kind of example a. He was being nice now. Well...Also kind of nice. "I see your point. But you can still be nice. Being nice might not be the most fun thing to do, but it annoys people so much that it's kind of worth the effort!" A mischievious sparkle worked it's way into the goddess' eyes.
"Yay!" She squealed, smiling enthusiastically yet again. This was serious progress, despite his reluctance about it. It would be a fun journey, but Nike wasn't completely sure that Ryan would actually run off. Sure he talked about it, but she didn't really see him at anywhere but the camp.
The goddess sighed dramatically, realizing that he was probably right. The shelters would all be closed this late and plus she would have to take her time to find the perfect dog. And then they would have to buy dog food, a water and a food bowl, squeaky toys, a bed, and really everything else. "Fine, fine...Be a fun-sucker." She almost grumbled, but she was too excited about the fact that he actually agreed to the dog.
"Not important," The brunette waved away the comment with her. "Anyways..I'm going to go and plus you should probably get back to camp before you get into trouble. So...See you tomorrow, mon cherie!" She exclaimed, hopping off the tree with ease. Her figure disappeared into the distance, as she crossed over the border line. Once she was out of sight, she transformed into her divine form and disappeared. [/blockquote]
