Percy flushed pink and sat back in the seat giving Nick an apologetic look. He rubbed his neck for a second staring out the window at the passing trees. They had to be near Ohio by now. Almost near their final destination. He turned his attention back to Annabeth as she gave them the low down. He listened, his brow knit together. He drummed his fingers both nervously and anxiously on his lap. The ADHD was making it extremely difficult to pay attention and sit still. They had been on this train what seemed like forever and a half.
He snapped out of it when Annabeth addressed him directly. “What? Oh, umm. I guess it could work like Medusa. I didn’t exactly get a chance to test that theory last time we met. But it sounds plausible.” He had no clue if Phobos worked like Medusa. It would be lucky if he did, otherwise they were completely up the river Styx without an oar. He pursed his lips and tried to think on the matter when Nick came up with an idea.
“Split up?” He looked to Annabeth and shook his head. “No no. I mean if I can’t stay back to fight Phobos we sure as Hades are not splitting up. “I’m not gonna let you go off alone. That’s suicide, especially since you’re all mortal and crap. Look--” Percy stood up nearly falling over doing so. His leg had fallen asleep.
“If Annabeth is right, and I think she might be, then we can use mirrors or yeah sunglasses should work.” He wished he had a pair of sunglasses, and figured that Nick was right. They would just buy more. Percy wasn’t sure if it would work, but it was the only thing they had to go on in the facing Phobos department. “You guys won’t let me go alone, so we’re sticking together now. We’ll be stronger together. And as much as I hate it, if we have to face Phobos it would be nice to have backup.”
Percy still didn’t like it. He didn’t want Annabeth anywhere near that crazy, one strawberry short of a fruit salad God. He wasn’t going to risk losing her, but he also knew she wouldn’t budge on this. He sighed feeling suddenly as if he were locked inside of a cage.
“I’m going to walk around for a bit. I’ll be back later.”
