Calypso had been off of Ogygia for the last two years but had never once stopped by Camp Half-Blood to thank Percy in person about freeing her. She was grateful to him, but her heart still broke every time she thought about him. Losing him was like losing Odysseus all over again. Calypso wasn’t ready to see him again, and she knew that he had a girlfriend now. She would not come between them. Calypso would not wish a broken heart on anybody. Calypso had never met Annabeth the affection of Percy Jackson, but she could only imagine that she was beautiful and worthy of Percy’s heart.
Now that Calypso had seen the new world she was ready to try and find love again, maybe this time one that would last. She doubted this though. Calypso was an immortal and all of the heroes she had fallen for were dead by now, or already claimed by love. Calypso was drawn to heroes. Her mind was still set in a mode of seeking out demigods. She could try and fall in love with a mortal and in truth over the last two years Calypso believed she started to love a few she had met with. Calypso had to remind herself though that they would not understand who she was, or where she came from. What was worse was that Calypso believed that she was only falling for these men because she desperately wanted to fall in love and not because she was in love. It was so confusing.
After centuries on Ogygia falling in love repeatedly, one would think emotions would be easy to sort out. Wrong. Calypso was more confused than ever. She was sure of one thing though, her heart was Percy Jackson’s should he ever ask for it. Calypso shoved Percy from her mind, she could not think about him. There was someone out there for her, and she would find that person. Calypso just prayed that her curse was actually broken and that the next hero she fell in love with would not have to leave her.
Calypso stood on the top of Half-Blood Hill next to a tall pine tree. The dragon that rested there was kind and allowed her to scratch his head and under his chin. He purred, or growled. Whatever the noise could be called the dragon seemed to enjoy Calypso’s company. He looked longingly after her as she walked down the hill into the camp. She turned and waved gracefully almost like a princess. The dragon let out a tiny squeaking roar and looked sad at her. She would visit him again and the smile on her face before she turned away assured the creature of that.
There were so many people wandering around camp that it was hard for Calypso to take in. She had a rough time with the big cities now a days, she had been hoping this Camp Half-Blood would be calmer. At least it looked nicer than the cities. Calypso would have compared it to Ancient Greece if there were not bits of modern technology riddled through out the camp. As she walked by a group of young campers their heads turned in her direction. She did kind of stick out. Not just because she was deity, but her long dress was kind of distracting in the sea of orange shirts.
Calypso didn’t pay much attention to the heads turning in her direction. She continued through camp no aware that she had a train of guys following after her. Calypso ignored them too. Her mind was so preoccupied on buildings, and activities that she didn’t bother with them. Her walking eventually brought her to the stables. Calypso glanced behind her and gave the boys a look that was firm and told them to move along. They frowned and turned, heading back toward their activities.
“Anyone in here?” She asked upon entering the stable. Her lips turned up in a smile when she set her eyes on the first Pegasus. Calypso moved over and reached out to stroke it. The Pegasus neighed and nuzzled Calypso’s hand. She laughed a sweet melodic sound. “Aren’t you just the most beautiful creature I’ve ever seen? Why do they keep you penned up in here, I bet it would feel nice to stretch your wings.” Calypso cooed softly to the Pegasus.
She began to hum a soft tune and one of the pegasi behind her whinnied in complaint. Calypso turned her head, “Oh yes, I’ll come and visit you too.” Calypso loved animals but there were never Pegasus on Ogygia, she had almost forgotten how beautiful they were. WORD COUNT’’:776 OUTFIT:H E R E

Isaac soared above the camp on the back of a pegasus. Below him, all around, other demi-gods were either in the midst of an activity or making their way across camp to one activity or another. Some chatted with friends while they did, and others walked alone, some even seeming to be lost in their own thoughts as they walked. Some campers were walking slowly, perhaps on their way to an activity they didn't much enjoy. Some, still, were rushing though the camp, almost crashing into other people in their haste to get where they were going. The camp was always busy, but Isaac never noticed it as much as he did now, when he saw everything going on at once. The camp was like their own city, always hustle and bustle, never slowing down. It wasn't always bad, though Isaac did appreciate the down times they got. Those were the times when things weren't so fast-paced.
Isaac felt himself starting to fall as he leaned too far to the side, and quickly righted himself. He was better at riding now than he had been when he'd first come to camp, but he still didn't want to fall off this high up. Chances were the pegasus would try to save him, but he wasn't quite ready to put faith in that either. Although, if this had been back when he'd first been learning to ride, he would have fallen off. He'd never ridden before coming to camp. To be completely honest, he thought he might have set a record for the number of times a demi-god had fallen off a regular horse, let alone ridding a pegasus. He hadn't been let near those until some time during his second summer, and even then he stayed on or near the ground at first. Now that he had the hang of it, Isaac really enjoyed the time slot in his schedule that was dedicated to riding. You'd never know that it had once been an activity that he'd dreaded doing. Admittedly he was still more suited for infantry than calvary - there was no way he'd stay on a horse in a fight - but that was okay with him.
"I wish I could stay up here," he said with a sigh. Somehow the fast pace of the camp didn't suck him in up here. This part of the day felt unaffected by time, like somehow it moved slower for him while the camp sped by below. Sadly, that wasn't true. He had other activities to go to today, and his time slot for riding would soon be over. "Time to come down out of the clouds I guess," he said, mostly to himself. Then to his pegasus he said, "I need to get you back to the stables before I head to my next activity."
The pegasus turned to return to the stables, and Isaac wondered as it did why he bothered to talk to the pegasus like it was a person, because they couldn't carry on a conversation. The only person who could ever actually talk to the pegasi and get a response was Percy. Then again, maybe Isaac did it out of respect, because if they could converse with Percy that did mean the were intelligent, sentient creatures. Even if Isaac couldn't understand them, they deserved the respect of being treated like he could.
Isaac's pegasus touched down and he hopped off it's back, leading it toward the entrance of the stable. That was when he heard the melodic laughter and stopped in his tracks, looking for the source. He found her just inside the entrance of the stables, a girl who definitely didn't look like on of the campers. For one, most of the demi-god campers wore the caution orange teeshirts that read Camp Half-Blood. She wore a long dress, sandals, and jewelry that would probably get in the way doing most of the activities at camp. She definitely wasn't the girl from Demeter cabin that usually instructed Isaac in riding, who had probably left by now to get to her next activity.
"Hi," Isaac said, as he lead his pegasus closer to the entrance. "I don't think I've seen you around before." It wasn't like Isaac was shy, he just didn't trust people easily. Small talk was easy for him, it didn't require being all that open. "I'm Isaac, by the way," he added with a bit of a smile, extending his hand to her. For a moment he was aware of the fact that his shirt was sticking to him. Gods, I probably smell about as bad as one of the horses right now. Sometimes I swear demi-gods need their own special deodorant. The regular stuff doesn't seem to do enough. Of course, the next thought to cross his mind was why he cared about that right now. It wasn't like any of the other campers were in a better condition than him with it being halfway through their day of activities. Besides, normally he wasn't too concerned about appearances. He was a child of Athena, normally his mind was too full of other thoughts. Lastly, he didn't even know this girl. He couldn't really understand why he'd be so concerned about her first impression of him, especially since there was a logical reason for the way he looked... and possibly smelled.

Calypso jumped a little at the sound of another’s voice. She thought she was alone in the stables but now she had company. Her head turned to a young man, and despite being sweaty from recent activity he was handsome. Calypso smiled broadly at him. She glanced over his shoulder to see if any of the other campers had followed him. At first she thought he was one of those who were stalking after her, but she didn’t recognize his face. Calypso had a way of memorizing faces quickly and this one was a new one.
She looked back to the Pegasus she was tending to and whispered something soft in ancient Greek. The horse neighed in response and Calypso ran her hand down the creature’s long face. She turned fully around to face the boy. Her eyes scanned him over for a moment, her smile still as wide and heartwarming as ever.
“I don’t think you would have, I haven’t left my island in centuries. I think I would have remembered a hero like yourself.” She replied softly folding her hands in front of her. Calypso was proper, and elegant something that couldn’t exactly be said for most of the demigods around here. She radiated with an air that gave her away as a deity. There was no way this girl could be mortal of any sort. She noticed that he seemed hesitant. Calypso had met enough men to be able to read them by now.
Calypso looked past the current state that the boy was in. Clearly he had been busy riding, and it made Calypso jealous. She wished she had been up there flying on one of the Pegasus. There was a simple solution to her problem but it wasn’t just that he had been flying, he had gone without her. Calypso didn’t know this boy but she kind of wish she had been flying with him. The familiar feeling she got on the island of Ogygia was coming back to her. She pushed it down and to the back of her mind. Calypso told herself it would no longer be this easy to find love. She couldn’t keep falling in love with every guy she met. That would only lead to a broken heart.
She looked down at his hand as the boy introduced himself as Isaac. Calypso smiled sweetly again and carefully took his hand. Part of her was afraid to tell Isaac who she really was, but a minute prior she had already revealed information that would have given her away regardless. His hand was warm, and a bit moist with sweat. Her expression didn’t flinch or change at the touch though. She acted like Isaac was perfectly cleansed. “It is nice to meet you Isaac, my name is Calypso.”
Taking her hand back she had a slight urge to wipe it off on her dress but that would have been rude, and it might have ruined her dress. Instead she folded her hands together again and stood with impeccable posture without even trying. The way she moved, every slight movement was like that of a princess. Yes, that was a way to describe or compare Calypso. She was like a Disney princess come to life.
“I suppose you’ve heard stories about me, I’m told many have.” She glanced over to the Pegasus for a moment. “Do you ride a lot? I myself haven’t ridden in quite a long time. They’re beautiful creatures, but I guess I prefer the ocean to the sky. The fact that I was sentenced to an island plays a part in that.” Calypso frowned a little, “Sorry, I’m rambling on.” WORD COUNT’’:611 OUTFIT:H E R E

Isaac might have known who she was just from the statement about having not left her island for centuries. He didn't have to really think much about it though, because she introduced herself when she shook his hand. She was Calypso, the daughter of Atlas and a Titan herself. Isaac vaguely remembered that freeing her had been part of Percy's one request to the gods that he had earned at the end of the second war with the Titans. Isaac also remembered that, while it had never been officially stated, Percy had been missing for several weeks during the first year Isaac had been at camp, and it had been assumed by most that he had spent that time on Ogygia with Calypso. Despite that this meant he had left her, like every hero who had washed up on the shore of her island prison, chances were her heart still belonged to Jackson. For all Isaac knew, she was just here looking for the son of Poseidon. Even if she wasn't, Isaac didn't have a snowball's chance in Hades with her. Between his mother taking Odysseus from her and his sister taking Percy's heart he was kind of in the hole. And to top that off, he didn't want to be the next hero to break her heart. His best chance was if he kept his distance emotionally. It was best for both of them really.
"It's nice to meet you, Calypso," he said, his hand dropping to his side after they shook. His expression didn't change, but his smile no longer reached his eyes. The hazel eyes weren't as bright as they had been before. They weren't cold, but they were more serious, calculating, and possibly even a little sad and scared. He was trying to close himself off, trying to put up the walls and masks that he wore around people he didn't trust. All the while he kept telling himself that this was best. It was nothing against her, he just didn't want the risk that leaving himself open would have.
"I think I've probably heard and memorized most of the stories," Isaac admitted. "I'm a son of Athena. Knowledge and wisdom are kind of my thing." He dreaded her reaction from the moment his mother's name passed his lips, but to be honest he felt it was only fair. He knew far more about her than she knew about him. Besides, if she had any sort of grudge against his mother, it would hopefully lead her to leave him be. Then nothing would happen, there wouldn't be any chance of love that would probably only lead to heartbreak anyways.
"I ride whenever I can find the time. I enjoy riding now, although I actually didn't know how to ride when I first came to camp. That was three years ago. This will be my fourth summer." The more he talked, the more open he became, the harder it became to try and shut himself off. "It's ok, really. I don't don't imagine you had much chance to talk to people over the centuries you spent trapped on Ogygia." She was nice, and there wasn't any reason to distrust her, but his mind kept flashing a warning sign anyways. The curse had to be gone, but he couldn't be sure she wouldn't fall for him if he opened up. If she saw what he was really like, caring, empathic, and protective, it could just be heartbreak all over for her. He didn't want to do that to her. It was funny how the whole time he'd been more worried about her heart than his.

After time Calypso became good at reading expressions, especially those subtle little changes. Her smile did not waver as she detected the slightest change in Isaac’s smile after she introduced herself. She almost regretted telling him her name. Her name must have been familiar around here, it had become legend and associated with heartbreak. It wasn’t something Calypso wanted to be remembered for, at least not anymore. That was her life on Ogygia not here and not now. After his hand dropped back to his side Calypso tucked a strand of her caramel hair behind her ear. Her hands folded together and she placed them properly in front of her again.
She rolled her shoulders back to straighten her back. Calypso tried not to let it show that his miniscule change in expression had affected her so much. She didn ‘t need anyone feeling sorry for her, especially not this boy. When she heard he was a son of Athena, Calypso could not deny that her mind went directly to Odysseus. It was so long ago, but it was Athena who had him removed from her island. It was essentially Athena’s fault that Odysseus was not able to stay. Even though it was part of the curse that came with her punishment, but at the time Calypso blamed Athena. Her heart had never hurt so much at the time or since. It was close with Percy Jackson, but Calypso doubted she would ever love anyone the way she loved Odysseus.
Calypso held her breath for a second upon receiving the information. She tried to force her smile to stretch her face but it was barely manageable. “Wisdom is never something to be ashamed of, it is a great gift. And yes, now that you mention it I can see Athena inside of you.” Her words at the end came out strained. “I’m sorry. It is nothing against you I promise. I suppose that some wounds run too deep to fully heal. Forget I said anything.”
She took a deep cleansing breath and this time her lips formed a bright smile. At first it seemed like this boy would be hard to talk to. There was something about him that gave off the vibe telling Calypso he would be a hard egg to crack. She believed lowering his walls would be difficult. Apparently she assumed wrong, and judged him unfairly. The more Isaac talked the more comfortable he seemed to become. It made Calypso relax, her posture slowly morphed from an almost perfect imitation of a drill sergeant to that of a princess. Calypso was genuinely interested in what Isaac had to say and listened to him whole-heartedly. But as the topic came back to Ogygia her facial features seemed to grow darker.
“I’ve had my share of company and people to speak with. It has been very lonely, that I do not argue. But I wonder if it is anymore lonely than any other God or deity. They have people, who worship them, and they have their family but I expect it must still be lonely. Living forever even when you have others around could get extremely lonely.”
She came back from her train of thought and sighed. “I don’t mean to sound depressing. I don’t regret my time on Ogygia. I had the chance to meet some of the greatest heroes. Now that I am free, I get to meet so many more.” Calypso thought about Percy again. It was difficult to be so close to him and not see him. She knew it was for the best, there was no way she could come between Percy and Annabeth. That would be cruel and Calypso could not stand to see Percy with a broken heart. She didn’t like having one herself, but Calypso was sure that someday soon she would find the hero who would mend it. WORD COUNT’’:649 OUTFIT:H E R E

Isaac noticed the change in her expression and the strained tone of her voice after he told her he was a son of Athena. He told himself it was for the best that she had hard feelings toward his mother, feelings that probably transfered to him, but at the same time the way she was forcing herself to still smile hurt a little. Something inside him wanted to fix the pain his mother had caused her. Not that he'd ever be ashamed of his mother, just that he felt she hadn't deserved any of what she'd gotten. If he'd been in her position, he couldn't picture himself doing anything less than standing by his parent. Maybe Atlas had been in the wrong, but he didn't know if Calypso had known or seen it that way at the time.
It did help when she added on that it wasn't anything against him. He couldn't, however, forget what she'd said. He was never ashamed of being logical and wise. He wasn't ashamed that he reflected as being his mother's son. Maybe it didn't exactly help him in being friends with Calypso, but he was proud of who his Olympian parent was. He could only hope Athena was as proud of him, or that some day she would be.
He hesitated for a moment before saying, "I know it doesn't change the past, but I'm sorry. I know the gods might disagree with me, but I don't feel like you deserved being trapped like you were. I can't imagine me doing anything different. I mean... Standing by my mother is technically what I did in the Battle of Manhattan." He shrugged. "I know I don't know everything. I don't know if you considered what your dad was doing wrong, or if you even knew what to think. All I know is, family is generally something you stand by, for better or worse."
She talked a little about her time on Ogygia. He had to admit, immortality didn't always seem like everything it was cut out to be. It did sound lonely, having only other immortals around you while everyone else kept moving by and everything changed around you. It could be nice at first. But after so long how interesting would it be? Then she apologized for how depressing she'd sounded. She talked of how she'd met so many great heroes, and once again Isaac was reminded that the last hero she'd met, the last one she'd probably loved, was still alive. It was Percy, and he was certainly a great hero. He'd even gone all indestructible like Achilles. Isaac, compared to Percy, wasn't much. He was just another demi-god, just another hero. Why did that bother him?
Truth was, emotions weren't his forte. He'd more than figured that out when he'd talked to Gail about Nick. He'd have never expect what was happening now. It wasn't logical. It wasn't rational. And goodness knows he'd been trying to protect Calypso, but he hadn't bothered to think that he might fall for her. He didn't believe in love in first sight. It didn't make any sense, but strong emotions didn't have a lot do do with logic and making sense. He just hadn't managed to close himself off, and had opened up to her faster than he had with anyone before. That had to mean something, but he wouldn't see it.
He felt like such a slob compared to her. She stood there with her perfect posture and her beautiful clothes. She looked every bit like a goddess or a princess. He stood there in his sweaty clothes, dirty clothes. His posture wasn't horrible, but it was like Aladdin and Jasmine. Calypso belonged in a palace, and Isaac looked like he spent his days on the streets. He couldn't help but look himself over and realize this.
"We should talk about something else. Not that I don't like talking about you, but I don't want to upset you." He pulled the pegasus he'd been riding into the stable and into one of the stalls. He started to brush it as he said, "Did you want to ride one of the pegusi? I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you took one up. I'd go up with you, but I have another activity to be getting to eventually here." He wished he could forget she was there, because he'd started to pull at his orange shirt. He usually slipped it off inside the stable, because otherwise it clung to him uncomfortably, but he wasn't sure how she'd feel if he did that. Not only that, but he felt just a little self concious around her.

It was difficult to remember the past especially when it was still so fresh in her mind. Her heart would always hurt from the loss of Odysseus and Percy but Calypso was determined to find a love that would never leave her. She wanted to know what it was like to love and not have your heart broken. It seemed like a distant fantasy, but thanks to Percy she would get that chance and hopefully soon. Calypso slowly smiled at Isaac. He apologized and that meant a lot to her. There was no reason to give an apology as he was not directly involved in anyway with her punishment.
“At the time, I wasn’t sure what to think. On some level I suppose I stood behind my father not just because he was my blood but because I thought he might have been right. Titans versus the Gods. I didn’t want a part in the battle, but you almost had to choose a side. You couldn’t be on your team. You either with the Gods or you were against them there was no in between.” Calypso swallowed and the ghost of her past danced in her eyes. She momentarily stared off into the distance as she remembered the first Titan war. “Sometimes I wonder what would have happened how things would have been different if I sided against my father.”
Calypso couldn’t describe how good it felt to talk to someone again. Over the last two years she had traveled around barely making small talk with people. She hadn’t run into many demigods on her journeys and it made topics of conversation extremely difficult when speaking with a mortal. She pulled at a piece of her hair and twirled it around her finger.
Calypso’s eyes scanned the floor of the stable for a minute and she tried to assess the feeling that was flittering around in her stomach at this moment. She wasn’t ready to call it love but she couldn’t out right ignore it. Calypso didn’t want to just fall for somebody just because they were in the right place at the right time. She wanted her next love to last and Calypso knew it would take more than just the first handsome boy she met at camp. Though, she had to admit that there was something special about Isaac.
“It’s okay. Even if we don’t talk about it the subject is still there, it doesn’t magically disappear. At least this way I’m not alone.” She smiled. Her eyes widened and lit up at the suggestion of a Pegasus ride. Calypso chewed on her bottom lip for a moment and she tossed her hair over her shoulder. “I’d love to. I don’t think there is anything freer than flight. I may be immortal but I envy the birds and all of the winged creatures of this planet for being able to touch the sky. I’ve lived by the sea so long that I feel apart of it, but its been forever since I have been close to the sky.” Calypso outstretched her hand to Isaac. “Would you show it to me?” WORD COUNT’’:522 OUTFIT:H E R ENOTES:Your bit about Aladdin & Jasmine made me listen to this song and its adorable! Isaac listened to her talk about why she stood behind her father, and how the whole situation had felt. He couldn't help but think that it was reminiscent of how the more recent battle between the Gods and Titans had gone. It felt like you had to choose a side, like you didn't have a choice in being a part of it. You were dragged into the situation because of who your parent was. You could either choose to side with or against your immortal mother or father, but you couldn't just avoid the situation all together. The only way that worked was if you didn't know you were a demi-god. Otherwise you were either at camp and dragged into it by being there or you were caught by Kronos and persuaded to join his side. The campers who hadn't been in the Battle of Manhattan didn't know how lucky they were to have avoided that whole mess. Isaac had gotten to camp just in time to be part of it all. Like Calypso, he'd sided with his mother, but he couldn't say for sure that he had felt like he'd had a choice.
When he commented about changing the subject, she mentioned how it didn't just vanish if they didn't talk about that. He knew that was the case, and maybe that made it all the worse to not talk about it, but the way her eyes lit up at the mention of trying to ride a pegasus made it seem like his decision to change the topic had been a good one. He could relate completely to her feeling of freedom and her envy of flying animals, although he hadn't realized how amazing it really could feel until he'd gotten to camp. Prior to his arrival, flight without an airplane had been an impossible concept. He hadn't dreamed about it, because there was no point in dreaming about something that would never happen. Flight had been a fantasy, and then he'd gotten here and see the pegusi. Suddenly flight was possible, and suddenly he'd wanted to know what it felt like. Once he'd found out, he knew things would never be the same. A part of him would always want to be in the sky. It was one of the few places where it felt like he could escape the chaos and burdens of life. None of it mattered when you were so far from the ground.
Calypso asked him if he could show her the sky, and he glanced at the entrance to the stables. He knew he should have said no, because he had to go to his next less, but it was a combat lesson anyways. Combat was one of his fortes, simply because of who his mother was, and he didn't feel guilty about skipping out on it this one time. He looked back at her and gave her a smile. "I think I could do that." He went to one of the other pegasi, the one Calypso had been petting, and let it out of the pen it was in. "You'll help us out, won't you? I'd ride my friend over there again, but I just got back from a ride with him, and I think he deserves a rest."
He sometimes talked to them, as silly as that seemed. He had a feeling they liked being talked to, and it wasn't like they weren't capable of talking back. Percy certainly could hold conversations with them. This particular pegasus seemed to nod in response to what Isaac said, although that might have been because Calypso had been nice to it and not because Isaac had actually bothered to ask. He led it out of the stable and turned back to Calypso. "Do you need help getting on?"

It was more than a little tempting to run off and try to find Percy. Calypso wanted to see him again but the promise she made to Hermes prevented her. And Calypso would stay true to her word. If he found her then so be it. Perhaps that was why Calypso wanted to spend more time with Isaac, to get her mind away from Percy with whom she was very much still in love with. It was cruel though to think that way. Isaac was a nice boy and it made Calypso feel guilty for even thinking that she was possibly using him. But she wasn’t. No, Calypso was sure she wanted to be around Isaac a little longer because he was so polite and kind. Regardless of having only met him minutes ago Calypso already felt a kind of funny around him. The way she felt with the heroes on Ogygia.
She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear and grinned. Calypso knew she was keeping Isaac from his next activity but she afraid she might go off and find Percy. Plus she wasn’t ready to say good-bye to Isaac just quite yet. She reached out the Pegasus and stroked his neck. They were beautiful creatures that Calypso wished she had on her island. It would have been nice to have them as company. She giggled a little as Isaac spoke to the creature. Adorable. Calypso cleared her throat and followed Isaac.
“I am sorry if I am keeping you from your next activities. I hope you don’t think it’s selfish of me.” She said placing her hands behind her back. “I would understand if you don’t want to join.” Calypso of course hoped that he wouldn’t listen to her. It was almost plainly obvious that she was lying. Calypso stopped next to the Pegasus and stuck her hand out to Isaac. “I’d do it myself, but mounting a horse in a dress is just as challenging as it sounds, if not more so.”
Calypso laughed, her eyes lighting up. She hadn’t been in the company of someone like Isaac in a long time. It was a long over do time. She had to admit that she was a little nervous. Not just about flying but about this interaction with Isaac in general. Calypso didn’t want to use him or fall for him because he was the first one she met at camp. But a little distraction from Percy couldn’t hurt. WORD COUNT’’:413 OUTFIT:H E R ENOTES:Sorry its so short! SONG:A WHOLE NEW WORLD

Isaac smiled to Calyspo as she apologized for keeping him from his next activity. Her words said she was fine with him leaving her and going to the combat lesson, but her tone said otherwise. She didn't seem to really want to be alone, and whether that was just because she'd spent so much time alone or whether it was because she would end up going to try and find Percy - which would only lead to problems, especially with Isaac's sister - Isaac didn't know. Perhaps some part of her also enjoyed Isaac's company. He didn't think it was wishful thinking to believe that Calypso wanted to stay with Isaac because she liked him. He wasn't thinking even in a romantic sense, just in a friendship sense. Friendship would be nice, even if it never became more than that. Certainly Calypso had met more impressive heroes than Isaac. Then again, some part of him reminded himself that all those heroes had left Calypso, they'd gone off to complete their duties and left her stranded on her island.
It didn't really matter though. He was getting ahead of himself trying to even consider the idea that they could ever be more than friends. Take it slow, and see what happens. She still loves Percy, and she's not cursed anymore. She's not going to fall for the first hero she meets, and you don't want to be the next hero who breaks her heart. He'd been telling himself that this whole time, and it was true. Whatever happened would happen. He wasn't going to go looking for trouble.
"It's fine," Isaac told Calypso, his smile not faltering despite his thoughts, which weren't all that dark or depressing anyways. "My next activity is a combat lesson. It's one of my stronger areas, so I think I can afford to miss one." Besides, he reminded himself, she doesn't really seem to want me to leave. Whether that's because of me or something else, I'd rather not disappoint her.
She held her hand out to him, laughing as she told him that she'd need help getting on the horse. He thought about it for a moment, trying to figure out what the best method would be. He could think of two methods. One was to get down on his knee and let her use the other as a boost onto the horse. The other was to pick her up and place her on it himself. The former felt a little awkward, at least unless she knew what he was doing getting down on one knee, and the latter might end with her mad at him unless he asked her first. "I can think of two ways of doing this. The one is letting you use my knee as a step up. The other is me picking you up and setting you on the horse. I think you should choose, because I don't want to invade your personal space or anything." Well, that had felt kind of awkward. Then again, Isaac didn't interact much with a girl in this sort of capacity. Most of the females at camp were plenty capable of holding their own, not that Calypso probably wasn't if she needed to be. He honestly didn't know if she was, but didn't want to underestimate her either. Still, he didn't really see himself needing to help any of his sisters or any of the other female demi-gods onto a horse. Some of them might have punched him for trying.

Calypso was glad she had wandered into the stable on this day. Otherwise she wouldn’t have met Isaac. He was smart and kind everything that Calypso had seen in heroes before him. It wasn’t uncommon for heroes to show those qualities. After the dozens Calypso had met she was able to spot the best ones miles away and Isaac was one of the best. She smiled at him wondering if Isaac was lying about his next activity just to show her around. Though of course Calypso wouldn’t haven’t minded so much.
“You seem very sure of yourself.” She said nonchalantly. “Hopefully your cabin mates won’t mind if I steal you for an hour or so.” There was coyness to her smile and a glint in her eye. The only way she could know what these budding feelings were was to spend more time with Isaac. Again, he was a good distraction away from thoughts of Percy. Calypso’s smile faltered for a moment when Isaac seemed to hesitate taking her hand. Had she gone to far? Maybe she was pushing her luck. Clearing her throat Calypso dropped her hand back to her side. She played with the fabric of he dress a little. Perhaps it wasn’t fair to lead him on like this when she had no idea how she really felt about him.
Then Isaac explained himself and Calypso didn’t feel so bad anymore. The smile gradually came back and her mood lifted. She chuckled a little, thinking of how considerate he was thinking of the various ways to help her onto the horse. Calypso gave a tiny shrug. “Isaac, you’re the sweetest boy I’ve met since coming here. Well, you’re the first one really but still.” She took a deep breath and stepped a little closer to him. “It’s alright Isaac, I’ll let you decide. You should know I am completely fine with either one. Although, I’d hate to get your knee all dirty because I stepped on it.” She flashed him a crooked smile.
Calypso laughed again, “Come on now Isaac, there are only a few more hours of sunshine left and I’d like to see camp before we lose the light.” She was being very forward again and for a moment she didn’t care. Calypso waited for Isaac’s assistance. She was excited about flying after not having done so in quite a long time and more importantly she was going to share the experience with Isaac. All signs were pointing to fate that led her to the stable at this time. The fates were cruel though, Calypso knew that well, she could only hope that they chose to finally shine some fortune on her. What she said had quite a bit of merit to it. He was maybe a little overconfident in his ability as a fighter. He was good, but he wasn't perfect. At the same time, despite that she'd said he could leave if he wanted to, he could tell from her actions she really didn't want to be alone. It was a case of saying on thing and meaning another. Certainly she could have found someone else to show her around on the pegasus, but she was asking him to do it. He'd take what trouble came his way because of choosing to stay with Calypso over choosing to go where he was supposed to be. Ironically, he couldn't say he'd have made the same choice were this Ogygia and the two of them were trapped on the island. Maybe he'd have stayed for a while, but eventually he'd have been worried about his siblings needing him or missing him. Staying with her then would have needed to be a much more permanent decision. At the present time it wasn't, and maybe that would work in her favor this time. If not Isaac, another hero would eventually stay with her for good. They wouldn't be forced to choose between her or their destiny... That was getting ahead of things, though. He smiled, laughing a little when she commented about there being only a few hours of sunlight left. It was true. They needed to get this trip underway. Besides, she'd pretty much suggested to him what he should do to get her on the winged horse. She had mostly just eluded to the answer, but he'd gotten the message. "You're right. So since I don't want you to feel like the trip will get cut short because of a lack of sunlight, let's get going." After saying this he gently placed his hands on her waist and lifted her up onto the horse. He climbed on in front of her, unsure how he'd have held onto the winged horse from behind her since the pegasi didn't really wear reins. "Hold on tight. We don't want you falling off." Then, after giving her a moment to hold onto him, he had the horse start forward. It made it's way along the ground at first, picking up speed until the moment when it took off and they were airborne. For the second time that day Isaac found himself looking down on the camp, his home, from above. Word Count: 435
