Darius wanted to walk the whole perimeter of the camp to make sure where everything was, but he stopped at the lake, it looked so refreshing for a summer’s day. He was wearing jean shorts, flip flops, and of course of tank top that showed off his muscles. The day was practically hot but he could withstand it, he just liked to wear tank top and shorts all year around, it was something that made him stand out a bit. Darius walked to the water, slipped off his flip flops, and walked into the water. He went just below knee deep so his jeans wouldn’t get wet, but the water felt good on his hot skin, he bent over and splashed some water on his face.
Looking into the water, he saw his reflection, he could see his brown hair and very blue eyes. He liked how is eyes shaped his mothers and matched the color, he always thought she was a beautiful lady. Smiling, he missed her already, I guess you could say he was a momma’s boy sometimes, probably because he was special. Thinking about it made him a little mad, but he had to learn to control his anger, but he didn’t know where it came from. He was always a nice guy, very polite, and had a good sense of humor at times also. Maybe this whole Greek Mythology crap was messing with his mind and he didn’t like it at all. But he calmed down just as fast and focused on the cool water, he put his hand into the water again and picked up a rock. Tossing back and forth from one to the other, he looked down the lake and then skipped it, the rock did five skips before it sank back into the water. [/size]

“You’re time will come when we shall meet….” “But that doesn’t make since! You keep saying that! When? Can’t you give me anything else? What’s coming?” “I promise you will know soon my child…” As ever, like the past week she been having this strange dream with still no answer…. Before she could ask or say anything else as always it went bright and she awoke. She never saw his face but she had a feeling she knew who it was. Sophie sat up in hot sweat and looked around her cabin and sighing she looked at her watch. It was about six forty-five in the morning and she knew she would never fall back to sleep again for the day. Even if it was for about fifteen to twenty minutes.
Sophie had gotten up out of bed, and began to get dress. She put on a pair of jeans, her usual worn black converse, and put on a dark navy tank top, followed by a thin white tee-shirt. She ran a brush then a hand through her dark colored hair, grabbed her golden brown bow and arrows by her bed, and quietly went out the door of the Apollo Cabin. Smiling silently and slightly at the slowly rising sun, she sighed. “Morning to you to father,” she muttered silently as she walked down the steps toward the Dining Pavilion where as always she would get an apple before a early morning training before breakfast.
After grabbing an apple and eating on the way she noticed the lake, as she walked passed. As the sun rose, the colors seemed to dance of the lake’s surface. What had the dream meant? Then again she was always one to have strange dreams. Well the quest that Harper, Gavin and her were going to go on was coming up soon. Does that have anything to do with that? She didn’t know and probably will never know until it happened. Yeah life was strange for a teenager. Especially if that teenager was a demi-god.
Looking around, she noticed another there. He seemed about a year or two older then her, and a built of a Hephaestus. Maybe even new here, this year? He had to be because this is the first time she had noticed him. Seeing he looked a bit lonely, she walked up to him. “Hello there. Mind if I join you?” she asked.

Darius heard someone walking but he stayed where he was, he didn’t want to disturb whoever was behind him. He then heard a female voice saying hello and if she could join him, turning around, he seen the girl a bit away. She had long dark hair, green eyes, and was fairly skinny, she was dressed in a tank top and jeans. He noted that people around here must wear a lot of tank tops as he smirked to himself. Looking out at the lake he told the girl, Yeah I guess its ok. shrugging and then looking over at the girl.
Picking up another rock, he tossed it in his hands and then chucked it out at the lake, it went pretty far and then went into the water. He smirked at himself because he remembered of the day him and his Stepfather went out to the lake with the boat and went boating all day. They fished, water skiing, and before they left, they threw big rocks into the lake. Darius remembered how far he threw when he was 15 and it was definitely far, and he didn’t work out at all, his father was surprised. He picked up one last rock that was enormous and then tossed it into the water with a huge splash, he wasn’t showing off or anything, he just wanted to throw a big rock.
Turning towards the girl, he wiped his hands and looked up at the sky. [brown]Nice day today huh? It’s nice out, no clouds in the sky. Best thank Apollo for it….it is Apollo right?[/brown] he said smiling and then rubbing his head. He wasn’t much caught up to all the duties of the gods and goddesses, they did study it for a few weeks when he was in high school but it went over his head because he didn’t like it much. He walked up a bit more where the sand and sat down, looking at the girl he looked at her, [brown]So how long have you been here? It’s only my second day here.[/brown] he said looking up at the sky and then back to the brunette.

She nodded and went to sit down and join him by the lake. There was something about him that told her he needed some friend. After all this was the first time she had seen him and by now she knew or at least heard of everyone in camp. “Thanks,” she replied to the boy. Like everyone else, he was taller and more built then she was. She may have her father’s gift of archery but everything else she was her mom. Personality and looks. “I’m Sophie, by the way. Sophie Greene.” she replied holding out a hand to shake his.
Soph had not been to the lake to skip rocks in a long time. Then again she had not been down here in a long time period. Honestly the last time she was down here was when Hayden and he made plans to go to New York. Yeah that was a fun time as she remembered she smiled some; the sun danced off her somewhat tan skin. She too began skipping rocks in thought. Now she was debating on whether or not to just take the day off from archery training, as she set down her archery bow and arrows.
“Yeah… that’s father alright. Apollo, god of the sun.” she replied. Even if he wasn’t her father she would still know who he was. She was always interested in Greek mythology, even before finding out she was a demi-god. Mainly it was due to the fact that her mother use to read her several stories about the different gods and goddess. She loved all those stories. Soph looked to him. “At the end of the summer I would have completed my second year here,” she explained. “Well welcome here. If your anything like me, you’ll love it here. I’ve never felt more at home,” she smiled a bit.

Darius shook is head up and down, [brown]No problem.[/brown] he said looking at her then back out at the lake. She seemed nice, but looks could always be deceiving sometimes, but he couldn’t let his guard down to a girl with cute eyes. She sat down even though he was standing, but he didn’t mind it much, but she introduced herself and he nodded, [brown]Nice name. My name’s Darius Vanderveer. Good meetin you.[/brown] he said nodding and looked down at her. That was one thing he did a lot, was nodding, he guessed it was because he didn’t talk much around girls, but it didn’t bother him that much. Darius seen Sophie reach out her hand and he greeted it out and shook it in return, his mother always told him it was polite to shake hands with someone, no matter who it was.
Watching Sophie skip a rock, he watched it go out into the lake, she skipped it pretty well. Darius grabbed another rock and it glided across the water before going underwater again. He smiled and looked down at the girl. [brown]Ah father of Apollo huh? That’s pretty cool. I’m not much in touch with my Greek Mythology side, but I do know the story of Odysseus and The Iliad, and I seen the movie Troy.[/brown] he said smirking as he looked down. That’s about the only thing he remembered about Greek Mythology, they had to read the whole book and give a presentation on it in class when he was sixteen. The story grew on him and he liked how Odysseus was so strategic and cunning, it was amazing to him. [brown]Wow two years? Do you only come for the summers or stay all year around?[/brown] he asked sitting down now next to her. He brawny brunette put his hand through his hair and looked up at the mountains that sat over the lake that sat in front of them. [brown]I don’t know if I’ll like it here much. But I guess I’ll know when the months come and go. I just want to go back home matter of fact.[/brown] he said to her.
Darius wasn’t a Momma’s boy or anything, but he just seemed like he wouldn’t like it here. Yeah they had all the stuff to let his creative mind work, and yes, they have a pretty wicked armory. But it wasn’t home to him, it just felt like he was trapped at a Summer Camp that got picked off one by one in a horror film. He didn’t want to say it aloud but he liked home, he wanted to have a normal relationship with a girl, and not be here. He guessed that what happens when your father is a god though.

“Thanks and you too,” Sophie replied. He seemed like a very nice person. But living and knowing herself as a demi-god for the past two, three years not to judge or trust someone to quickly. Sophie continued to skip rocks until the ones around her were not very well for skipping. “So who else have you met?” she asked him. “Anyone you want to know about? Though there are a lot of people I have not talked to, I’m around” she replied. Sophie liked helping people. Whether its knowing about camp activities or music or even other campers, Soph was the person to come to. Though she had only been here two going on three years, since she was an all year round camper, she picked up on things.
“Yeah sometimes its cool. Other times it could just be annoying…I mean I know a lot of demi-gods never actually meet there parents and everything so yeah… like I don’t know how to explain it. Its like you know when your parent tries to give you advice? Its like why do you even bother if your not going to be in our lives don’t try telling us what to do…” there she was going to drop it there. She threw a rock hard at the lake then closed her eyes. “Sorry… I get a little well lets just say when it comes to actually talking about the gods and goddess in general I am fine but when talking about the parent side… yeah… I should shut up now.” she shook her head. Yeah that was probably one thing she got from her father. Never able to just shut up. “Yeah I’m an all year round camper… I honestly don’t have a home to go back to anyways…I considered this place…well home” she shrugged.

Darius looked at her, [brown]Uh, some girl named Andy yesterday, she’s feisty little thing. And then you today.[/brown] he said smiling about the daughter of Persephone. Looking at Sophie when she asked if there was anyone to know about, [brown]Not really for now, I haven’t met too many yet, I just like to keep to myself sometimes, especially since I just got here.[/brown] saying to the girl. He wondered just how many people were at the camp, cause the girl has been here for two years and she hasn’t talked to that many. Unless she kept to herself, like he kind of does for right now, he will meat people once he gets his head on straight.
He listened to the girl as she talked, sounded like she was having a disagreement with herself, but he didn’t mind much, [brown]I’ve met mine and I hope that’s the last time I see him actually.[/brown] he said to her looking out at the lake, [brown]Plus I don’t want advice from him, I don’t want anything.[/brown] he picked up a rock and threw it out at the lake, it zoomed farther than his last throw, a lot farther. He didn’t want to let his temper get back up, so he just kept it cool for now. He nodded his head when she apologized and smirked when she said that she should stop talking now, [brown]Oh it’s ok, I’m a good listener, but I can talk a lot sometimes too.[/brown] he said smiling to the girl, showing his white teeth.
[brown]Wow all year around, do you get to ever leave camp? See New York or go out on dates with guys?[/brown] he asked folding his legs Indian style and looked at her. He wouldn’t like staying here all year round if they couldn’t go out at all, that just wasn’t right, you can’t stay in one place too long or you’ll go crazy. [brown]Why don’t you have a home to go back to? [/color] he sat there picking up a rock and moving it from hand to hand. Tags: Sophie Words: 346 Notes: N/A[/blockquote][/size]

Soph nodded in though. This summer there had been so many demi-gods coming to camp Soph couldn’t even keep it straight. There were so many more this year then last. That meant a lot more quests, didn’t it? Maybe hopefully that she would get a quest? Yeah sure her, because wasn’t it the older campers who usually got the quests? AB has been there what eleven years and been on how many quests? Ryan had been there three years…. Well then again her younger half-sister Harper has been here two years like her then there’s her other half-sister Adonia has only been there not even a whole year… maybe she, Sophie would have a chance soon. She wanted a quest but wasn’t sure if she was ‘leadership’ material.
“Yeah Apollo…uh father we don’t see eye to eye. I mean yeah I am grateful for the arrows and bow that never get destroyed or lost or anything but a father figure is all I have ever really wanted…You know someone who is always here?” she sighed silently. There seemed to be a lot of good listeners at camp. Then again there were a lot of nice people here at camp. “Thanks.” she smiled.
“Yeah I am actually going to finish my second summer here when ever fall rolls around. And yes I leave camp once in awhile. Either on my own for a day or if I’m going with someone else more then a day or two.” She looked away slightly when he mentioned “date.” Well there was that one with Hayden. She smiled at the thought and memory of there trip to New York. Something, honestly she would never forget. Sophie then sighed silently and sadly at the thought of home. “Its well complicated but long story short… my mother died when I was just sixteen and my step-father wouldn’t look or talk to me or anything… I got sick of being ignored so I ran away. I don’t know what, though I am pretty sure it was Apollo who lead me here. And I have been here ever since.” she explained looking out to the lake.

Darius listened to the daughter of Apollo as she talked about her father, he couldn’t say that he understands because he always knew he had a father at his hometown and not about the godly one. [brown]I can’t say that I understand, I have my father down at my home. I would care less if Hephaestus never came to me.[/brown] he said shrugging his shoulders and looking at her. [brown]Your welcome?[/brown] he couldn’t remember why he thanked her, he didn’t have much brains but he sure had bronze. In Darius’ pocket he had some wire that he grabbed from the workshop and started to fiddle with it, he didn’t know what he was gonna make, but he would find out soon.
[brown]Oh wow your second year? Oh well that’s good.[/brown] he said looking at her. He listened to her story, it was pretty harsh about her step-father, who would do that to a child. Darius couldn’t stand people sometimes, and that was an example, when parents don’t appreciate kids, step-kids or not. [brown]Well that doesn’t sound right at all, I’m sorry to hear that. Does everybody have a bad background story?[/brown] he asked her as he fiddled with the wires and such. Darius didn’t know if he wanted to stay all year round or just for the summer, he did have a job back home, but he could make a life out here in New York. He needed to get out of the country life one day or another.
Once he was done fiddling with all the stuff in his hands, he looked down, it was a necklace that looked like a sun. He smiled down at it and touched the middle of the sun and light came out of it and the rays moved around the sun, it was like a fashionable flashlight. He chuckled and looked to Sophie, [brown]Guess I had the Sun God in mind. What do you think of it?[/brown] he asked Sophie holding it up to her.

“Yeah I’m getting there as well,” Soph replied with a silent sigh. Sophie was one of those demi-gods that respected all the gods and goddess. Well not all the gods and goddess. Phoebes and Ares were a couple she was not a fan of at all. Same with Eris and a couple others. But still she did respect them. After all these years she was getting tired of waiting on answers to prayers. Though he talked to her some, she honestly thought it was her mind coming up with all the answers if she had questions. That Apollo, god of the sun and father to her and her siblings, was not even listening, or not even caring. But come again did this prove all gods and goddesses where like that? Not caring about there children? Honestly that was not fair, especially not fair to those with no one left.
“Yeah. But being here all year round makes it feel a lot longer, especially when it is winter and there are no campers around to keep company” she replied. This thought occurred to her that where would Hayden go? Or Harper? Maybe she could stay with one of them during their break… she would not try to be a burden or anything. “It is alright really. I’m getting to the point where its just a memory… and to be honest I don’t think so” she replied. Soph hoped not. She watched him mess and fiddle with the wires. Surly being a son of Hephaestus it was sure to be amazing.
Soph turned away for a few minutes to skip a couple rocks here and there. It seems like they were beginning to become fast friends, if you considered them friends. Looking back she saw what he had created. “Wow,” she replied amazed. But of course Hephaestus kids always made the most amazing things. “Its beautiful. Do you guys ever have to think about what to make or does it just come so easy?” she asked wondering if they had to think at all.

[brown]It’s not hard getting there. Trust me[/brown] he said clenching his fists as he said it. He had so much hatred for the man who destroyed his life, who could do that to the woman he loved most in his life, he couldn’t make him pay because he was a god of course. Darius looked at Sophie pretty sure thinking she was confused, he sighed, [brown]Hephaestus disguised himself to look like my….well now step-father I guess, when they were on a trip to Hawaii and raped my mother.[/brown] he said looking at her then towards the sand. He picked up the biggest rock he seen and threw it into the lake, it made a loud splash and it probably sank down to the sandy floor in no time. Darius looked up at the sky and seen a few clouds rolling in, he hoped it was going to cool down pretty soon, cause he was burning up.
[brown]I bet that would be hard, does it snow around here? That could help with the training right? Trying to do combat in all elements of the seasons.[/brown] he asked her. It snowed during the winter in South Dakota, he loved the snow, he had some of his best memories with his siblings in the winter. He could remember making snow forts, big snowball wars, and then relaxing by the fire when they were tired from playing outside all day. Darius missed those days, he wanted to see his family so bad, [brown]Oh really? Well you got to think too, everyone has some kind of parental issues I guess when it comes to Olympians and minor gods, you know?[/brown] he said shrugging. He seen her look down at his hands as he fiddled the wires, he smiled.
Darius watched as she threw rocks into the lake, he thought about how much farther he could throw the rocks than her, of course he was built to be strong, but it did amuse himself sometimes on his strength. He smiled when she replied a compliment towards him, [brown]I’ve always made things through out life and wondered how I’ve become to do so. Guess some light got shed on that,[/brown] as he thought about Hephaestus, [brown] but no, I don’t think that much, all I guess I do is let my hands work and see what the outcome is. I touch it and know what it does. Like all other equipment I ever touch.[/brown] he said to her. Darius remembered when he was five and was playing in his dad’s car, in no time he had the car running and shifted into gear. His father was dumbfounded also when he was the age of seven and knew why the car wasn’t running.

Sophie was lost in thought. That had to be the worst thing about the gods and goddesses. Did they not care about anything but themselves? If that was all they cared about, they needed to go see and talk to a counselor or someone because that was just messed up and sick. She listened to him talk about what happened with his mother. “Oh I am so sorry…” she replied sadly looking at him, feeling terrible. Soph herself could not even come to terms of how or what her father did to get her mother. Soph felt the big splash a little on her and quickly dried herself off from the sun. Well that was a bright side she guessed.
“Well yeah a bit. But its not like crazy blizzard or anything. It like lets in a gentle snow fall that covers the ground, but its not bad. The borders help protect a little I guess, but to be honest I am not sure who it works…” she explained. Though she hated winter, snow and the cold, it was not that bad here at all. Yes it was cold but it was not bad. Most of the time she could feel the sun alone as it sort of hid in behind the clouds. She nodded as she did know, and she understood completely.
Sophie continued skipping rocks in the lake. Skipping rocks was one of those things that helped her think, along with archery. She touched her bow, which was to her left, in thought. Okay so if her father did not care about her then why would he give her such an amazing and magical gift? Sure maybe her siblings got something, but this was original. Why her? Soph looked up as he spoke again. “Well that is still really cool. I mean the only thing I can do is help sort of control the sun what my father does so I am never that hot and sweaty like normal and I can dry off quickly. That and archery but that’s about it. Nothing special.” she explained.
