- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -In Adonia’s dreams all night was about her going to Vegas. Something was there and something or someone was telling her to go there. So when she woke up in the morning, Adonia rubbed her eyes and then realized that the part of the prophecy about going west and a place that night is as day was Las Vegas, Nevada. That freaked her out. Yes, even though Adonia has traveled some of the world with her mother being an army nurse, but this was different. Totally different. She needed to leave camp and go face some beasts and stuff, which is what she was not looking forward to. Adonia had no training in sword play nor in any battling strategy. Sure, with the ADHD, that instinct may just kick in when she was in actual trouble. Also for being the daughter of Apollo, people would think she would be good in archery. Nope. Adonia was somewhat bad at it. It was more like this, there are three helpings of abilities and talents. Well she got one helping of healing and two helpings of music, nothing left for archery.
After doing her morning routine to get ready, Adonia needed somewhere to go and think. Somewhere peaceful where no one could really bother her, so she set out around the camp looking for that perfect spot. Searching for about ten minutes, Adonia remembered that there was canoes at the lake. Smiling to herself a bit, Adonia made her way down to the lake, pulling out one of the canoes and setting it into the water. It was still pretty early in the morning and the lake looked beautiful. It was still and calm. [maroon]Perfect.[/maroon] Adonia thought to herself. Climbing into the canoe, Adonia grabbed the paddles and began to make her way out into the middle of the lake. Away from the all of the people, just her, the water and quiet.
As getting towards the middle of the lake, Adonia lifted the paddles out of the water and set them inside of the canoe. She then lifted her legs up to her chest and rested her chin on her knees. Just wanting to be alone and trying to figure out this prophecy thing. Adonia knew that she had to take two people. But who? [maroon]Maybe Xavier. But I don’t want him to get hurt or killed.[/maroon] It was true. She didn’t want him to get hurt on the behalf of her cause one line of the prophecy said that only one will see her there, meaning someone could die. But it could have double meanings also. There is no way to tell unless everything works out and plays into action. [/blockquote]

The thought of perfection swirled around in Xavier's head often. He pursued it relentelessly in the course of daily life, but never really understood why. He attributed it to Maslow's Pyramid with self-actualization sitting at the top. This didn't do too much to explain things, but that was philosophy anyways. In fact, that was probably the reason much of the world believed in a monotheistic religion. It became an easy to place to attribute the questions about why rather than how.
At any rate, Xavier knew that he'd been consciously viewing perfection for the last few months. At least that's the way he interpreted his feelings about Adonia whenever he was around her. Today was no different of course. At this point he had a mental connection with her that made it easy to find her. Today though, he was a bit worried that his intuition would be right about Adonia. Lately she wasn't very at ease for some reason. She seemed more distant with him than normal, but he hadn't really been prodding too much.
Today was the day he'd given up on standing back. He really wanted to know what was going on in her head. That wasn't unusual, but this time it was so that he could do a better job of making her happy. She was easy to find considering the lake was typically an empty place with the Poseidon kids were occupied. She seemed to be alone more than usual. Xavier could only hope that his seeking her out wouldn't ruin her attempt at having some alone time.
He peered out over the lake and saw her paddling a canoe all by herself. The overused phrase of "picture perfect" came to mind. She looked beautiful sitting out over the calm lake. Her curly hair seemed weightless on her shoulders and it made him quickly lose control of his actions. Before a second went by, he was without a shirt or shoes and diving into the lake.
He probably startled Adonia if she hadn't seen him already. Quickly he made his way out to her canoe and let his head pop out of the water. He didn't want to put any weight on her small vessel in fear of flipping her over. As he shook off some of the water and wiped his eyes he smiled at her. "I guess I just can't help myself sometimes when it comes to you. I'm not catching you at a bad time am I?" he asked with a grin.

After contemplating for a while about taking Xavier, Adonia finally came to her senses that she needed to take him. He could make sure she was safe, but she also had to make sure that he was safe also. Now, all she had to do was to tell him, but how? She cant ask him, ’Hey, want to come on a dangerous mission with me?’ No, it wasn’t going to go down like that. She wanted to make sure he understood that she wanted him to come with her, but knowing Xavier, he would want to come. Also, she wouldn’t mind him coming at all. This may be a good trip to get to know him better and to hang out with him. Too bad there had to be another person going with her. It would have been nice to be just him and that’s it. But maybe three would better the odds in a battle… then her thoughts were interrupted…
Hearing a splash in the water, Adonia was wondering who it was. She looked at the shore line for clues. Seeing one, there was a shirt and shoes. But it could have been a girls shirt. Though, by the design, it looked like a boy… then a head popped out and it made her jump a bit, but seeing it was Xavier, that put a small smile on her face and she rolled her eyes. [maroon]Jeez, what you do? Trying to give me a heart attack?[/maroon] Adonia said. Listening to what he was saying, Adonia shook her head. [maroon]No. No bad time. I was just out here to think.[/maroon] Playing with her hair, Adonia smiled at Xavier. It was hard not to smile when around him. Looking around again, Adonia looked back at him. [maroon]Why didn’t you use a canoe to get here? And do you mind if we go ashore? I want to talk to you about something.[/maroon] She asked him in a small smile. [/blockquote]

While the gentle sun illuminated the tiny beads of water rolling off of Xavier's face, his eyes were locked onto Adonia. Lately he just didn't get to see her enough and he missed her pretty smile. Even though she did seem different, he was glad that he still could make her smile. That or she just smiled so naturally he wasn't doing anything special. Perhaps he just wanted to believe that he did.
Xavier's face turned a bit serious when she asked if he was trying to give her a heart attack. He would never do anything to cause harm to Adonia and he didn't know why she would ask that. "No, certainly not. I would never want you to have a heart attack, much less be the cause of it," he told her in a concerend voice.
It wasn't until Adonia kept smiling, reassuring him that his company was welcome and he wasn't disturbing her free time that he figured out she probably wasn't close to having a heart attack. Xavier let out a small sigh, thinking to himself that he'd probably never understand people, especially not women. Either way, there was a more pressing matter at hand. Adonia had something that she wanted to talk about with him.
"Well I didn't exactly have time to consider a canoe. Besides, the end goal of getting to you was more important than the means to reach that end," he explained. Quickly he knew that getting her to shore was a good option. Children of Athena shouldn't be in the water any more than what's necessary. Suddenly, he grabbed Adonia and pulled her out of the canoe into the water. She made a splash, but it was minimal.
Xavier allowed Adonia's weight to be distributed on to his bare chest. Lying on his back he kicked with his feet strong enough to propel them both back to shore. He was laughing as he went, glad to have her so close and hopeful that she wouldn't be mad at him for snatching her into his arms. She probably had no intentions of getting wet, but he didn't think she'd mind too much. Camp was just a short walk away to get changed. Within moments they reached the shore and Xavier helped her out of the water. "Sorry about that Adonia, I just figured I could get us here quicker, plus, that was my morning hug for you!" he said excitedly.

Seeing the concerned look on Xavier’s face, made her smile. He is so logical, that she didn’t think he realized it was a joke. But she didn’t say anything cause hoping that sooner or later, that he will realize it was a joke. Needs to learn. But seeing his face right now made her troubles go away and feeling a whole lot better, which is what she needed right now.
Adonia thought it was so cute that it was important to come and see her. She smiled and looked down at her feet, her face turning red. But in a good way. But she really needed to get ashore, as she was turning around to get the ore, she felt a tugging, and then falling back, hitting the water with a small splash. Adonia gasped because the water was still a bit chilly and she also she was shocked to see that Xavier pulled her into the water. [maroon]Very….cold….[/maroon] She said with a smile on her face. Adonia grabbed Xavier around the next as she was leaning on his chest. His bare chest. This made Adonia blush again since she is shy when it comes around with men without their shirts on. Adonia needed to get used to it since guys were basically running around here without their shirts on. Especially the ones in the Hephaestus cabin, they work in forges which get really hot.
As they reached shore, Adonia felt that Xavier was helping her out of the water. Water was dripping off of her clothes and good thing she was wearing sandals cause Adonia hates getting her sneakers all wet. She laughed when Xavier said that it was her morning hug. [maroon]Well thank you. That’s a different type of hug where it involves water.[/maroon] She said with a smile. Adonia gave Xavier a real hug, hoping he wouldn’t mind.
Seeing that there was some benches and chairs, Adonia pointed to them. [maroon]Lets go sit over there so we can talk.[/maroon] Grabbing Xavier’s hand and heading for the tables. Once they got their, they sat down. Adonia was nervously bouncing her legs up and down. How to say it and where to start? That is going to be tricky, but she needed to say it so where he could understand. Taking a sigh, Adonia started to speak. [maroon]Ok. So yesterday I was at the beach and I saw Rachel, the oracle, sitting there. So I sat down and started to talk to her. But then a minute later, she gave me this weird look and I recived a prophecy.[/maroon] Adonia looked down now. [maroon]I know it may seem cool to others, but I’m scared. I don’t know what to do. I’m not like the other campers who are great in battling and smarts and stuff. Why me? There is nothing special about me.[/maroon] Now playing with her hands, [maroon]This is what the prophecy said:
You will take two and go into the west Battle beast and fear to survive this quest Seek the city where night is as day Seduction of power will lead you astray Keep friends close and enemies near Only one will see you safely here
[/I] I know some of it right off the bat. We have to go to Las Vegas, Nevada to get something and I need to take two people. And one of them… is you.[/maroon] She looked up with a worried face. [maroon]But that means that I am going to be putting you in harms way and I don’t want that. What happens if you get hurt… or worse…[/maroon] Adonia looked down again at her hands. She was rubbing them as she was worried and scared and nervous all at the same time because of the last sentence of the prophecy.[/blockquote][/size]

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - [/COLOR][/center] Cyrene was goin out to the lake to take a dip, it was pretty hot out, she‘d go to the ocean, but she wanted freshwater, not salt water on her. As she walked she seen Xaiver, or as people call him ‘X‘ [teal]What a dumb nickname.[/teal] she whispered to herself. Also with him, was Adonia, ugh, the thought of her made her stomach twirl, she was overall nice to everyone! It was sickening at times to watch her be that nice. Maybe she‘s that nice because she feels bad for people, and no since to be rude? Yes, there is a sense to be rude to people, it makes the world go round. There were people like Cyrene, who were mean, and nice at the same time. Then there are people like Adonia, who had one too many helpings of a sweet tooth on her, it made her personality sweet too.
She walked up slowly and heard Adonia tell Xavier that the oracle had chosen Adonia. Who would‘ve thought right? She also heard her thoughts about it, she heard the city Las Vegas. That brightened Cyrene‘s eyes and she walked over to them. [teal]Aww look, they let the animals out of the petting zoo to come out and mingle in the open.[/teal] she smirked twirling her hair. Cyrene had a pink bikini on that accented her curves and the tone of her copper skin, of course being the daughter of Aphrodite, everything worked. [teal]So miss tie-dye, your going on a quest, and to Las Vegas! You lucky girl.[/teal] she said smiling at her and putting on her sunglasses. Cyrene leaned on the back of the bench they were talking on. [teal]Well in that case you need to take me.[/teal] she said eyeing Adonia through her sunglasses. She turned to Xavier and winked at him smiling her pearly whites.

When Adonia gave him a real hug, Xavier couldn't help but smile to himself. It was good to know that she wasn't upset with him for pulling her into the water. He was embarrassed to think that he didn't want their hugs to always end so quick. He had to shake it off quickly, along with some of the water that still gripped to his body as it began its gravitational descent. As she took his wet hand into hers, the cohesion of water was nearly as the powerful as their touch. Suddenly the last few weeks didn't matter to Xavier and the feelings he had seemed to be reciprocated now more than ever.
When they sat down he kept his arms tucked in his lap though he really didn't want to. At this rate, they'd be at a stalemate forever. It was a good thing he didn't make a move though because this definitely wasn't the time. Typically Xavier had an answer for everything and always had a good idea. This prophecy thing really put him on his heels though. How can you react to a person you care about receiving such a dangerous prophecy besides fear?
Before Xavier could answer, Cyrene of all people decided to show up. She opened her big mouth first, and Xavier honestly didn't care too much to respond to her contort about him and Adonia. He hadn't the energy or the focus at the moment. He did summon some energy though when she said that Adonia needed to take her. "I don't exactly have a great idea at the moment, but I know that taking you is not one of them. Clearly if she's taking me then we ought not complicate the situation by adding you in to the mix. Do you even have any skills to bring to the group?" Xavier asked her coldly. This was Adonia's quest and here she was trying to just invite herself. That was very rude of her and there had better be a good explanation.

Adonia sighed. This royally sucked for sure. She was getting ready to speak more to Xavier, but then she thought she heard someone coming. As Adonia turned around, she saw that Cyrene was there, AND SHE HEARD! Adonia was not very happy right now and Cyrene wanted to come with them on the quest. There was going to be no way in Hades she was going to go. She didn’t want to hear Cyrene’s sneer comments about her and being rude to her and she certainly wasn’t going to be rude to Xavier. Adonia has never disliked a person so much, but Cyrene pushed all of the buttons. Getting ready to pipe up, Xavier talked first. Wow, he seemed a little irritated, but it was nice to hear him speak his mind against this mean daughter of Aphrodite.
But actually thinking about the situation of going to Vegas, Adonia had an idea. She turned to Cyrene and gave her a fake smile. [maroon]Would you please give me and Xavier a minute alone to talk about it?[/maroon] Seeing that Cyrene nod and diving into the lake, Adonia quickly looked to Xavier. She whispered it to him just incase that stupid Barbie heard it. But over the splashing, Adonia doubted it. [maroon]We could actually take her. We can leave her butt in Vegas and then we can come back. Just two of us. Without her. Then we have one less mean person at camp.[/maroon] That doesn’t sound like Adonia to say that, but she really doesn’t Cyrene. But also, Cyrene’s charm to men may help down the road also. But she wasn’t going to say anything yet about it. [/blockquote]

As Xavier's chest continued to pump in and out, the irritability causing his breathing to speed up, he was caught off guard by Adonia's request to speak with him in private. What was there to talk about? They couldn't take her! There wasn't an obvious choice in his head, but this would be the worst idea ever. Then again, Xavier was good to keep in his mind that he couldn't be a hypocrite. He was mad at Cyrene for bombarding Adonia's quest, so it wouldn't be right for him to do the same.
As she whispered to him, he was slightly afraid that he was going to along with it. He was not taught to be so mean towards other people but Cyrene had a way of pressing anyone's buttons. He knew there had to be more to her, but he couldn't help but like the idea. It was half because he didn't like her around and half because he liked the prospect of being alone with Adonia... completely.
Xavier sighed a bit and looked Adonia in her eyes. He couldn't say no to this girl even if he wanted to. Those cute eyes and fluffy cheeks were enough to get him to go along with a plan that his instincts didn't exactly like. Still, he was going to have to learn to trust at some point, so he may as well start now. "Adonia my job on this quest is going to be to protect you, not to tell you what to do. If this is your decision I will support is and see to it that you make it to Vegas and back safely, no matter the obstacles," he told her reassuringly. Not only did he know it would calm her, but he damn sure meant it. He would not accept any ill-effects to Adonia on this quest, especially not from Cyrene.

Adonia smiled when she heard what Xavier had said to her. This means that he is definitely in the quest. This would be great cause Adonia will now have more time to spend with Xavier away from the distractions and away from the camp. They will get to see the country, which may be really fun, well, without the monsters they may have to face along the way. But this shall be fun. Adonia put her hand on his and smiled more. [maroon]Thank you. Its really sweet for you wanting to protect me. But I need to learn how to defend myself. If a situation gets really bad, then you can save me.[/maroon] She said as she moved her hand away. Adonia didn’t want to, but she didn’t want Xavier to feel uncomfortable with it.
Turning her head to the lake, she saw that Cyrene was swimming more and called out to her, [maroon]Cyrene, come here, please.[/maroon] Adonia was rubbing her hands together as she was getting nervous to tell Cyrene about the trip. Once she had reached the two of them, Adonia put a small smile on her face. [maroon]Ok, you can come with us on this quest. But you need to keep you rude comments to yourself. Even though I have a feeling that is not going to happen.[/maroon] She said with a sigh and looked to Xavier with a small smile, kind of like an apology to bring her along. But the prophecy said that they needed to bring two people along and Cyrene happened to pull herself in to it. Glancing back up at Cyrene, [maroon]Now, you know this means that you are now tied into this whole prophecy thing.[/maroon] Adonia said in a concerned face. Now she had two people to worry about not getting killed. [/blockquote]

Cyrene smiled at the looks of Xavier, it was so funny watchin this book worm get frustrated, it was cute in it’s weird way. Well he wasn’t a bad looking guy, jut not her type at all. She smirked at him, [teal]Oh I have skills, my archery has gotten loads better and hey, my charm with people is outstanding. I don‘t think squirrel girl here can charm just as good as I.[/teal] she said smiling. She looked over at Adonia [teal]No offense at all though.[/teal] she said sarcastically. Cyrene just loved to pick on these two, they got the maddest at her through out the camp, and the madness was like her kerosene, it fueled her fire.
She listened to Adonia and walked down the lake, [teal]Need to cool off anyways.[/teal] she said to herself as she splashed into the water. The water was nice and cool, and for how early it was, it was hot. She laid on her back and back stroked around in the lake as the sun beaded on her watery body.
As Cyrene swam, she heard Adonia calling her back. She rung out her wet hair and ruffled it up a little with her hands and let her curly hair fall into place. As she walked up she heard Adonia name off the conditions to her and she smirked. [teal]Yeah your right, I don‘t think I can leave out the rude comments, it‘s just so much fun picking on you guys.[/teal] she said smiling at them. She had a hunch that Adonia was gonna let her go anyways because she was just a nice person like that. Cyrene didn‘t care, she actually got to leave the camp for a while. She waved her hand at Adonia‘s comment about the prophecy thing, [teal]Yes yes I know the rules. Now about luggage, how much are we gonna need to bring? We need to pack for like what….a week?[/teal] she asked them. Cyrene could see it now, she‘s gonna need like 4 suitcases for all her stuff.

When Adonia put her hand on Xavier's, she probably didn't know that it did in fact make him uncomfortable. Not that he didn't like her hand being on his, but the thought that ultimately it would go away was what made Xavier upset. He didn't let it show though, and rightfully just enjoyed her hand being there while it lasted. "There will be time for learning along the way, but until that time comes, you have nothing to worry about," he told her in a stern voice. He was already entering his protective mode and in his head he was flipping through a rollidex of beasts that they could possibly encounter. There was no way he was going into battle unprepared.
When their short moment was over and Cyrene reentered the conversation, it took a bit of patience for Xavier not to let her know how he felt about her coming. She was terribly annoying and at the same time, she kept saying things that hinted at competence. He was NOT going to admit that perhaps Cyrene would work on this quest, but that was because he still felt there was a good chance she wouldn't. Either way, she made a good point about being good with men, that could definitely come in handy.
"I don't think you should take the rules so lightly Cyrene, this is not a game," he told her sternly after hearing her rushing to get started. While she was envisioning all of her luggage, he was trying to figure out how they would manage to get along as soon as he saw her with it. "You're right, the trip might take a week, but this isn't a vacation, we need to be mobile. So pack light," he instructed. He wasn't sure why he was suddently taking the lead, but Adonia was just too nice to really lay down any rules and it would have to be Xavier to tell Cyrene things that weren't exactly what she wanted to hear.
Xavier tried to think about how to best handle a trip to Vegas, but it would be something they should discuss as a group. The only thing he knew for sure from living with Annabeth was step one, Argus. "Let's all go get packed and meet at the property line in an hour. We can't waste too many daylight hours sitting around if we're going to be the group. I'll alert Argus that we're leaving and we'll figure everything out from there." Xavier knew from his sister that idle time was the biggest challenge on a quest. His plan was to be proactive and keep his awareness high. He was the only male in the group and he knew that he would have to be on top his game in battle if they were to be a success.
