stay with me this is what i need please we could sing our own but what would it be without you?---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Harper Marowski had become something that she'd never wanted to be over the past few days, and that was a hermit. The only person who'd been seeing her on a regular basis was her sister Sophie, and that was not just because Sophie happened to be her favorite sister, but because Harper had chosen Sophie to go on a quest with her. Quest. The word quest had been haunting here just as much as the name Gavin Sawyer, and if that wasn't a sign that Harper was worried then it could be seen in her disheveled, exhausted demeanor, the dullness of her usually bright chocolate brown eyes, and the constant withdrawal she had around other people, even at mealtimes. Granted, her hair was combed, and she was clean, but... anyone could see that something had changed in Harper after she'd been given her prophecy. She was probably one of the most stressed quest leaders Camp Half-Blood had ever seen.
Now, Harper wasn't worried because she had no idea what she was doing. She knew where the quest needed to go and she knew she was capable of figuring out the rest when she got there. No, what she was worried about was the responsibility. If she were to fail this quest, and fail to bring back the "armor of the gods" and this "aegis of Athena", she was quite sure something bad could happen to camp. And there was a great many people here, none of whom Harper would like to see hurt. She was a sweetheart in that way - she could never truly hate anyone unless they hurt her so deep it was irreversible. Something that nobody at this camp had managed to do so far, and she doubted they ever could. She was also worried about the lives of her friends, the two she'd chosen to take with her on this quest.
One was Sophie. Her favorite sister, but also the eldest of the Apollo children and someone well-loved by everyone. If Sophie were to be hurt, it would most definitely be her fault - this quest was on her shoulders. If anyone got hurt, even any of the mortals that would be visiting the tourist attraction they were meant to travel to, Harper knew it would be her fault.
Well, it was time to recruit one more - the person she'd instantly known she's want with her when facing nameless monsters and gods and whatever the hell else was going to stand in her way between her, her friends, and whatever they would have to get. Harper ran a hand through her dark hair restlessly as she approached the one cabin at Camp Half-Blood that she'd never had a reason to visit until now. She'd come straight from her cabin, the Apollo Cabin, in a bout of sudden courage that was swiftly waning and would soon be gone from her system. Already, she'd asked Sophie and her sister had graciously agreed. Now it was for the person Harper feared to ask more than anyone else at camp. Gavin Sawyer. And she was only afraid that he would say no.
Which, granted, could very well happen. This thought did nothing to calm Harper's nerves, of course, but she knew that it was true all the same. Gavin was unpredictable, and while Harper now knew she was somewhat of a soft spot for him, she didn't know what he'd say in response to her very important question. He could agree, which would probably make Harper one of the happiest girls in the world, or he could say no, which would not only utterly devastate her, but would panic her beyond belief. If Gavin wasn't going to agree then who else was going to? Everybody else Harper knew was already out on a quest, which only made her more stressed out.
This was unbelievable!
Harper groaned as she finally came to a stop in front of the Eos Cabin - Gavin's supposed bunk. She was sure he was the only kid here, so she prayed that he'd be in there. Or somewhere nearby so she wouldn't have to wait here for long. At least, though, asking Gavin on the quest was indeed the perfect excuse for seeing inside his cabin. Even if she just got a quick peek, it would be enough for her. After all, this was going to be a look into Gavin's private lifestyle, which of course was an opportunity that she couldn't pass up. But still, even that temporary spell of excitement wasn't enough to supress the worry that once again surfaced in her chocolate brown eyes. She pushed an errant strand of hair away from her face and took a deep breath.
With one more trepidacious step, Harper raised her fist and knocked on the door. She bit her lip and hopped from foot to foot in anxiety. There were only five words rushing through her mind at the moment, What if he says no?
Word Count: 812 Outfit: Ta-da! Even as a stressed teen she can look fashionable!

The cabin was a mess. This wasn’t an unusual thing for Gavin Sawyer though. While he was currently the only resident of the cabin it looked as though five other people might occupy the same space. Clothes were strewn about; papers flooded the foot of his bed, a better place to toss shoddy ideas than a garbage can. Stacks of black and white speckled composition notebooks were stacked on the desk in the corner of the room and some were piled on the nightstand. Gavin lounged on the bed with a guitar over his chest.
Gavin had a passion for music but never liked to show that to anyone. His passion for art was now out in the open, or at least Harper knew about it. Oh, Harper. Gavin strummed the guitar his mind forever on that girl. The portrait of Harper he had previously painted hung on the opposite wall for Gavin to observe before bed each night. Even now he glanced up and looked at the near perfect picture of his girlfriend. Girlfriend, which was a strange word to wrap his mind around, he had never had one of those in his life. He paused as a quick thought passed through his head. Was Harper officially his girlfriend? Were they a couple now? Sure Gavin confessed he had strong feelings for her and she returned them. Did that make them a couple?
Gavin chewed on his bottom lip and mindlessly played a few cords on the guitar. He dwelled on the uncertainty for a minute before he pushed it from his mind and began playing “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls on his black guitar. He drew in a breath and began to sing, which was quickly becoming a common thing for him.
“And I’d give up forever to touch you, cause I know that you feel me somehow. You’re the closest to heaven that I’ll ever be and I don’t want to go home right now. All I can taste is this moment, and all I can breathe is your life. Cause sooner or later it’s over. I ju—“
He was cut off by a sharp knock on the cabin door. Gavin stopped and sat up on the bunk. His brow furrowed. Who the hell would be knocking on his door interrupting his perfectly good muse time? He was thinking about Harper and this person was ruining the moment. Gavin grumpily got off the bunk setting the guitar down. He stormed over to the door and threw it open.
“This better be good!” He growled. Gavin’s eyes fell on Harper and immediately his face softened and so did his voice. “Harper, sorry I didn’t know it was you. Uh, do you want to come in?” He moved aside allowing room for Harper to enter.

stay with me this is what i need please we could sing our own but what would it be without you?---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The instant she heard the sound of Gavin's singing voice from inside the cabin, it brought a smile to Harper's face and made her regret knocking. Because she knew, from personal experience, that as soon as Gavin realized he was being listened to, he clammed up. Which, of course, as she listened, was exactly what happened. His singing stopped the instant she'd made her final knock, and Harper sighed to herself. Gavin was pretty much the one thing stable in her world right now, and even then, their relationship was pretty shaky.
Relationship. A loose term for the word that described what Harper and Gavin had. She'd honestly never felt this way for anyone - and the fact that he returned her feelings was more than enough for her. In reality, she didn't know what to call what they had. In all honesty, it was unbelievable to her - the concept that Gavin was making her feel something that she'd never felt before. Harper tried sorting through her memories, all her talks with her mother, any conversation she'd had with someone at camp. That was when it hit her. The pounding of her heart, the bubbliness she felt when she was around him, the brightness she knew came to her eyes when he spoke to her. It was, in a way, like the way her mother described feeling for Apollo.
Wait. Oh, no.
It was with that thought that the door to the Eos cabin whipped open, and Harper was suddenly faced with a very irritated Gavin. She shrank back, having seen this face before many times over. But, of course, as soon as his eyes were on her, everything about his demeanor changed, and Harper let herself relax. For a split second, she let herself get lost in those deep blue-gray eyes of his, and just let herself forget what she'd come here to do in the first place. Coming here just to see him felt like it was most definitely a good enough excuse, but she knew there was more to it than that. She needed to ask him. There was no other way around it.
But when Gavin offered to let her come inside, Harper's eyes brightened just a tad. It was the perfect distraction. "Actually, I would. Thanks." With a small smile at him, Harper inched her way past him and turned to look at his cabin. It was messy, but quite honestly she'd expected that. Almost all boys were the same. Messy, unorganized... Harper could tell it needed a girl demi-god's touch. But, of course, there were things about it that were so Gavin. The notebooks everywhere (that she was dying to read), the guitar on the bed (that she didn't even knew he had), and the painting he'd made of her hanging there on the wall (that she never knew he'd kept)... Other girls might have been worried that a doppelganger picture of them was hanging in their boyfriend's cabin, but Harper knew that Gavin was somewhat of a sweetheart, and that he meant nothing by it.
She looked around, not exactly sure if she was allowed to touch anything. "Do you mind if I... sit down somewhere?" she asked, looking at Gavin anxiously. Already the quest was back on her mind, eating away at her like a bug in her stomach. She became nervous again, rubbing the back of her neck as she looked around. When she'd first met Gavin, she'd never dreamed that she would actually be in his cabin someday asking him to do this with her. It was almost nervewracking to think about. "I... I need to ask you something. Something kind of important. Well, actually, um... okay, it is important, and not just to me but I mean if you say 'no' you don't have to, but I still..." Harper paused, realizing what she was doing. She blushed, looking up at Gavin with embarrassment. "I'm rambling, aren't I?"

As soon as Gavin invited Harper in he regretted it. The place was a complete mess, which was all fine and well for him cause Gavin couldn’t give two shits but he didn’t want Harper to see it. No turning back now though he would just have to go with it. Gavin tensed up watching Harper for any and all reactions to his living conditions. He wouldn’t have cared before what others thought but everything he did around Harper always felt like the wrong thing. She was the only person he would change for. Gavin stared at her with a dreamy expression until his eyes met the portrait hanging across the room. If that didn’t make him look like a creep then what did? He stepped around and in front of the picture hoping to block and draw less attention to the artwork. He forced a smile and chuckled nervously.
Then his eyes wandered to all of the unprotected and exposed journals. Crap. He didn’t think that one room would be able to tell so much about whom he was beyond his rough tough exterior. Gavin chewed on his lower lip, he prayed that Harper had enough sense not to pick one and open it. That was cruel to think she would do something like that. Gavin’s mind wandered as he scanned the room other possible indications that he wasn’t just a dysfunctional and (as Harper once put it) emotionally disturbed demi-god with an attitude problem.
“What? Oh right!” Gavin’s attention snapped back to his girlfriend. He lunged forward to clear a space for Harper to sit down on his bunk. He picked up the guitar and gestured for her to sit. He sat down on another empty space on the bed still holding the guitar. As soon as Harper said she wanted to ask him something Gavin’s breath caught in his chest.
In that instant a million possible questions rushed through his mind at lightning speed. Some were insignificant but could have a zillion hidden meanings. He tried not to panic but inside Gavin’s mind he started to prepare himself for the break up. Why would someone like Harper want to be with Gavin? He was rude cruel and a complete jerk. This was apparent to Gavin, he was just used to his personality.
As Gavin mentally prepared for Harper to say the words “I’m done with you”, or “We should see other people”, his anger started to grow. There was a fire in the pit of his stomach that was setting flame to his heart. There was a reason that he shut himself off from everyone around him. People were all the same; they set you up for disappointment. It hadn’t even been a full week and already they were over?
Gavin almost burst out as he turned to look at Harper. But then he forced himself to recall everything she had just said to him. Say No? He had a choice in this break up? Gavin’s brow furrowed and he licked his lips slowly watching as she blushed. And as color flooded her cheeks Gavin forgot about the terrible things running through his mind. He set the guitar down and grabbed Harper’s hands leaning forward and kissed her forward. He could see that something was deeply troubling her. Gavin swallowed, “It’s fine. Just spit it out Sunshine Girl.” WORD COUNT”561

stay with me this is what i need please we could sing our own but what would it be without you?---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Harper smiled at Gavin's jumpy nervousness - in her eyes, it was rather adorable. After all, she was so used to seeing him grouchy and angry at the world. This was a pleasant different kind of Gavin. One that she really liked to see. But, unlike most girls might be, she also perfectly fine with his grumpiness too. The bitterness, she could handle. The anger at the world, she could deal with. Because, in truth, she knew that every single thing about him, from the agitation to the adorableness, was something that made him who he was. And she loved it.
See? There was that word again. Love. As she carefully sat down on Gavin's bed in the space he'd cleared out for her, she thought about it. Before, she'd admitted that she had exceedingly strong positive feelings for him, and had said that very same thing to his face. She liked him, but... was there more too it than that? She recalled how her mother had described love. While she would never let Gavin know this, it truly scared her that she seemed to have the symptoms. Her mom had described love as a... wonderful disease. It ate away at you, but in the best kind of way. And quite honestly, that's how Harper felt every time she was around her dear Grumpy Gavin.
But as she was speculating, she was noticing there was something strange about Gavin. It looked like he was thinking about something - and it wasn't good. Her heart dropped, and frantically she scrambled to think of what it could be. Had she done something wrong? Was he going to tell her to get lost? He'd seemed so cheery and bright-hearted a second ago... what had happened? Instantly Harper became worried, adding only more anxiety to her platter and making her heart thump in agitation. Seriously, she was going to have a heart attack before age 20 if she kept this up, but in reality Harper couldn't help it. With the quest, everything just seemed to contribute to her stress lately.
Then Gavin took her hands, and kissed her, and her previous worries were forgotten. Butterflies flittered around in her stomach when their lips met and she wished he'd never pull away. But, as per usual, he did, and she sighed at the loss of contact. Instead, she settled for clinging to his hands as if they were her last lifeline to earth. Which, she sort of felt that way. Harper let out a big, deep breath before she actually began to speak. She went through what she'd rehearsed in her head, but it got jumbled at the last second and of course she couldn't organize herself.
"I was given a quest," she blurted in a very blunt fashion, just wiping her memory clear of whatever else she was supposed to say before that screwed her up too. Instantly the worry as back in her eyes and she was gripping Gavin's hands with what was her version of a death grip. "Which means I have to pick two companions and go outside of camp to do something dangerous and I'm scared and I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing, and I..." Harper paused, taking a few deep breaths before allowing herself to start again. She couldn't get ahead of herself, and she really didn't want to look like the damsel in distress. She was the leader of this quest, and by the gods she had to act like it.
"Basically, I know that it'll be dangerous and I don't want you to get hurt, but I know I'm going to... well, I mean, I don't want to say that I'll need you because then you might feel like you have to go and I don't want that..." Harper sighed in frustration. Why couldn't she get this question out? "What I'm trying to say is that I want you to go with me. But... like I said earlier, you have every right to say no and I'd understand why you wouldn't want to go. The thing is I've never done this kind of thing before, and to be honest I've never even been attacked by a monster. And I remembered that you probably had a lot more experience than I did, so you would be useful, and of course I wanted you to come because I don't want to go without you by my side, but, I mean..."
She looked at him shrewdly. "You know, you can feel free to shut me up any time," she commented, realizing just how much she'd babbled in the last five minutes.

Gavin had prepared himself for the worst as his mind ran in circles creating sick nightmares about Harper breaking up with him. When instead she confessed to be given a quest, Gavin sat there for a second letting his brain process the words individually. He couldn’t understand them at first, they sounded foreign. As the words formed meanings Gavin’s facial expression changed. How could she be given a quest? He knew exactly what this meant and it wasn’t an idea Gavin liked to think about. As new nightmares spun in his head of possibilities that could occur on said quest, he listened and let her speak.
She was allowed two companions? Gavin wouldn’t feel safe with Harper doing anything without an army behind her. Not because he didn’t trust her or think she was incompetent, Gavin actually worried about her safety. As Harper rambled on about asking him to accompany her, his immediately thought was of course he was going to go with her. Naturally that wasn’t what Gavin said when gave him permission to shut her up. The look on Gavin’s face slowly grew from grim into an angry scowl. He let go of her hands and launched himself up into air nearly tripping over his own feet. He struggled to stammer out the right words. What he said wasn’t exactly how he wanted to proceed with the topic.
“How could you be so irresponsible?” He finally got out. Gavin threw his arms into the air and began pacing. “A quest? Are you insane? Do you have a death wish?”
Gavin couldn’t help himself now. The frustration was just bubbling on the surface and it was hard to keep it from boiling over. He ran his fingers through his hair and shook his head silently for a moment refusing to look Harper in the eyes. Gavin swallowed hard. She had never been attacked by a monster before, that was just fantastic (in a sarcastic way). Gavin’s face turned nearly sheet white as he turned back to Harper his face full of worry almost all of the previous anger was gone.
“How could you do such a stupid thing like get a quest?” Gavin’s voice was soft. He continued to pace plotting things out in his head. They would need weapons, easy enough for Gavin he had his sword Way of Dawn. But trying to find a—wait, could Harper even fight? As a daughter of Apollo she was good at healing no doubt and while Harper was feisty (Gavin loved her for that….did he just use the term love?) but he wasn’t sure if she had it in her to actually fight for her life and harm another being monster or not. He realized that he was thinking all of this and not sharing a single thought with Harper.
“A quest is dangerous and not all heroes come back from them. Hell, it’s safer to travel by yourself and survive like I did.” Gavin begun ringing his hands, the color still absent from his cheeks “I’ve never been on a quest before and while I have had experience with monsters this is going to be different.” Gavin pinched the bridge of his nose. He prayed that Harper could revoke the quest, give it back or pass it onto someone else but that wasn’t the way quests worked. Her destiny was now set, and it looked like Gavin was going to be a part of it as well.
Gavin stopped circling and sat down on the bed beside Harper. He grabbed one of her hands still avoiding her gaze. “If you weren’t there to annoy me, I don’t know what I would do.” He chewed his lower lip thinking of how dumb he must have sounded in that moment. Sighing Gavin explained, “What I’m trying to say is don’t get yourself killed.”
He licked his lips and chuckled understanding that he had yet to give a full and complete answer to Harper. “You really aren’t too bright if you think I’m going to say no. Someone has to make sure you come back in one piece Sunshine Girl.” He ran his thumb over the back of Harper’s hand as he held it finally glancing up and looking her in the eyes. “I’m not going to leave to you, I promise.” WORD COUNT”721

stay with me this is what i need please we could sing our own but what would it be without you?---------------------------------------------------------------------------- In reality, Harper had no idea how Gavin would react. She liked to think she knew him well enough to know what he woudl do, but she still found him just as unpredictable as the day she first met him. To be honest, she was scared. She was sure he'd agree to go with her, but with his tendencies she knew it was very likely that he'd get upset but she just didn't know what to expect. So she prepared herself for anything.
What she hadn't prepared for, though, was what he did. He stood up and yelled, which made Harper wince. He avoided eye contact with him as well, suddenly very ashamed that she had gotten this quest. Because, when she thought about it, it almost was kind of her fault. She'd made the mistake of talking to the Oracle - Rachel. When she'd helped the poor girl up, BOOM, her prophecy had been made and a quest was then hers. But all because Gavin said didn't mean that it was true. Harper, at the time, had had no idea of knowing what would have happened if she touched the Oracle. "You know I didn't plan on this, right? Of course I don't have a death wish, but I don't have a choice! You know how quests work. It isn't my fault I was given one," she protested, refusing to let him believe that this was her fault.
But she stayed where she was, because when he turned around to talk more, she was stopped cold. He was very pale - paler than she was, and he looked even more nervous (Harper honestly had no idea how that was even possible). She didn't answer his question, instead looking down at her hands that were now folded on her lap. She started fiddling around with them as she took deep breaths, thinking deeply as to how she was supposed to response to all of his comments. "I know that not all heroes come back - why do you think I'm so scared? You could get hurt... or Sophie could. She's the girl coming with us - she's my older sister. And there are so many people who care about her, and I care about you, and if something happened to either of you, I don't... I can't..."
Harper let out a deep sigh, running her hands through her long, dark hair. It felt good, venting all of this to Gavin. She knew that, ironically, he was pretty much the only one who would understand just how nervous she was... because even though they'd only known each other for a short while, she knew he understood her almost better than anyone, maybe save for Sophie, who was her absolute favorite sister that she shared just about everything with. Just being around him was such a breath of fresh air, she didn't know how she'd survived without him all of these years. She was sure that being this addicted to him wasn't healthy, but then again her mom had always said that love this strong wasn't really healthy either... wait, love?
Before Harper could confuse herself further, the space of bed beside her dipped, signaling that Gavin had sat beside her. His hands came into her line of vision as he took one of hers into his own, and Harper looked at him with a questioning look. He wasn't looking her straight in the eye, and she was about to ask what was wrong when he spoke. The instant he did, her entire expression softened and a smile went across her face. "That's what I'm here for," she murmured quietly before leaning forward to peck him on the cheek. Just as she pulled away, he said he was going with her, and Harper grinned.
She jerked her hands away from him and instead threw her arms around him and fell into him. She buried her face in the crook between his shoulder and neck and smiled. "I know you won't," she whispered against his skin, and then pulled her head back a little but kept her arms around him. She needed moments like this, so she rested her head on his chest for a minute, listening to his heart beat, before speaking again. "Would you... would you be okay if I stayed here for a little while? I mean, you wouldn't get mad? I just need to hide away from the world for a little while... with you," she said, almost just as quietly as she had when she whispered. And it was true. Just for an hour or two, she wanted to forget about her upcoming quest, her training, the lives she would bee responsible for... just everything.
She bit her lip, wondering if he would say no. She looked up at him with wide eyes. "If you don't want me to stay, you can just say so. I'll... go. But I just want to spend some time with you. We have a few hours before dinner and I just want to..." She sighed, in order to prevent herself from rambling again. She closed her eyes and let her head rest against his chest again, finding comfort in the sound of his heart beating. This was one of the reasons why she wanted him to come with her on the quest. Because he was the perfect person for her to spend her time with. Maybe, if she was lucky, the rest of her life with.

The worry lines did not leave Gavin’s face. For the first time in his life he had someone to really care about. Well, that wasn’t true. He had his sister Kimberly when he was younger but he was the reason she was killed. Gavin vowed he would never let anyone close to him again after that tragic event. Here he was though with Harper Marowski a beautiful, clever, and amazingly annoying girl. He wasn’t just smitten with her or cared for her a little bit, he had deep set feelings for this daughter of Apollo. He couldn’t help but get defensive when it came to her safety. Quests were deadly and from everything he had heard of past quests, there wasn’t a good statistic of happily ever afters for demi-gods when it came to quests. He didn’t want to give up the one thing that gave him the slightest bit of hope in himself.
“Sorry.” He apologized roughly. “I’m already doing that over protective boyfriend thing. I’m not used to this yet.” Gavin now kept his eyes glued to Harper. He watched her facial expressions as she spoke.
He had momentarily forgotten about the third member of the quest. Gavin had no idea who Sophie was beyond what Harper had just told him. Then again, Gavin didn’t know many of the campers because he simply could care less about them. He prayed that Sophie was a good fighter, though judging that she was also a daughter of Apollo it seemed that Gavin would be doing most of the fighting. He had two healers and two girls who were probably more skilled at archery, which would leave Gavin to fight close range. Hopefully the Gods smiled down on them and allowed this quest to go off with out a hitch. Fat chance. The Gods didn’t care about them and if they died. Gavin thought bitterly on the Gods for a second before his mind came back to Harper.
She was worried for him. He had never had anyone worry for his life before. Gavin’s shoulders relaxed and his eyes grew heavy. As she ran a hand through her hair Gavin wished he could be the one doing that. He didn’t want to reach over though and just go for it. The peck on the cheek came as a light surprise but it was a welcomed one. Gavin couldn’t help but smile at Harper. Before his hands could reach out and run through her long hair she came forward and wrapped her arms around him. Gavin was too slow in his reactions today it seemed. Gavin did note that time seemed to slow to a crawl whenever he was with his Sunshine Girl.
Gavin’s voice caught in his throat at Harper’s request. Slowly a smile stretched his lips. Smiling was starting to become easy. He licked his lips and leaned forward slightly so his chin rested on the top of her head. Her embrace felt so foreign and yet so familiar. He was still waiting to wake up from this dream. Gavin expected himself to wake only to be back on the streets of New York or some other random city trying to hide from monsters. Being here and now with Harper was like straying into a wildly vivid dream. Gavin didn’t want it to end.
How could one girl take the tough uncaring figure he once was and turn him to mush seconds after their first encounter. Fate. Destiny. Those were just words that Gavin had tossed around in his head but never really dwelled on as the answers. Instead he made a decision to live in the now with Harper. And if it were a dream and by some cruel chance he were to waken without having met her, Gavin would be happy knowing that they had met even in a dream world.
“Of course you can.” Gavin said. His head moved so she could look up at him. He gave her a deep meaningfully stare. “Why would I want to let you go? I just got you.” He said playfully. Gavin leaned forward and kissed Harper on the forehead and allowed her to rest her head back on his chest. After a moment of stillness Gavin reached up and ran his fingers through her hair forgetting that he was wearing a bulky ring. It tangled for a second. Gavin jumped a little and worked to free his hand. “Shit. I’m sorry.” He said feeling like a complete idiot. Once his hand was free he moved back a little so he could lean against the backboard. “That worked out better in my head.” Gavin’s face was flushed a light shade of pink from embarrassment. “I didn’t do any permanent damage did I? I mean other than the blow my dignity just took.”
Gavin held his arms out beckoning Harper in, “Forgive me Sunshine Girl?” He wasn’t ready for Harper to leave yet. With luck that stupid act wouldn’t screw up his time with Harper before they had to worry about the quest. Gavin made the best puppy dogface he could. With his normal rough and tough demeanor, and naturally rugged features it made him look more like a bulldog puppy as opposed to the golden lab he was going for. But as true for most dogs and for Gavin, his bark was way worse than his bite.
He pushed out his lower lip and waited. After a few seconds Gavin didn’t feel like waiting any longer. A mischievous smile pulled his lips apart revealing his pearly white teeth. He lunged forward on the bed his arms engulfing his girlfriend and tackling her to the bed. “Now you have to forgive me. I’m not letting you go until you do.” WORD COUNT”959

stay with me this is what i need please we could sing our own but what would it be without you?---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Don't worry - the overprotective boyfriend suits you," Harper replied with a teasing smile on her face. The truth was, she'd never had someone to be overprotective of her before. Her mom had always left her on her own - there wasn't must protectiveness there. Since coming to Camp Half-Blood, she's had siblings worry about her, come to see her when she was sick, or injured, but never had she actually had a boyfriend before. One that really and truly cared about her the way Gavin seemed to. The thought that, yes, he really was going to be there for her on this quest brought an even bigger smile to her face.
When Gavin said that she could stay with him, a pressure seemed to lift off her heart as she sighed with contentment. With his arms wrapped around her, she felt as though nothing could go wrong in the world. Well, it could, but not to her. Not to Gavin, either. Here, for the first time in her life, she felt truly secure. Like the lifeline she had to earth right now was a steel cable that would never break. She wasn't going to lie, either, because that was a very nice feeling that she never wanted to go away. She wished she could just stay here forever.
She smiled as she listened to his heartbeat. Harper let herself close her eyes for just a moment, savoring in the peacefulness of the sound of his heart beating steadily. It was such a reminder that Gavin was half-human, just like she was, and she chuckled to think that a week or two ago, she would have questioned his heart's existence. But now, here she was listening to it as though she'd known it was there all her life. Irony never ceased to amuse this daughter of Apollo. After all, it seemed to be such a major theme in her life. Or, at least, when it came to Gavin. Who would have ever thought that the boy she'd despised the most a week ago was her dear boyfriend today? She certainly wouldn't have.
The smile turned into a simply content one as she felt his fingers begin to weave through her hair. It was such a nice, soothing feeling, one that she was convinced had to do with the sudden relief she felt being around Gavin. That was when she felt a slight tugging, and the sting on her scalp of a hair being yanked free from her head. She yelped and then started giggling as Gavin grumbled a curse word. For some reason, everything was funnier with vulgar language. She pulled away from him then as he finally managed to get his ring free of her hair and she reached up to rub the back of her head. Harper continued giggling, looking at Gavin with a purely cheerful and amused expression.
"Lost a few hairs, but nothing too horrible," she chuckled in response to his question if there was any damage done. Of course he was already forgiven - it was just an honest, and frighteningly hilarious, mistake he'd made. She figured that he didn't even need to ask for forgiveness, but him being Gavin, of course he did. He reached out his arms to her, but Harper feigned anger and folded her arms tightly across her chest. "No, I'm sorry. I can't forgive you," she said as she turned away from him with a grin on her face. She prayed that he wouldn't take it literally, because knowing him that might be exactly what he might do.
But after a moment or two of silence, Harper began to grow suspicious. It was just as she was turning around to see what was going on that she saw the mischievous glow in his beautiful eyes and the bunching of his muscles that warned her of what was about to transpire. She glared at him in warning. "Don't you dare even think about-" She was cut off as Gavin's arms wrapped around her and the pair of them went crashing onto his bed. Harper couldn't help but laugh as they fell and found herself (pleasantly) trapped between Gavin and his bed.
She looked up at him with those bright chocolate brown eyes of hers with an innocent expression, like a curious kitten. She honestly found his puppy-dog face adorable, and wasn't aware that she had a kitten face of her own. As Gavin mentioned that he was letting go until she forgave her, Harper giggled quietly. "Then what makes you think that I want to forgive you now? I think I'm fine staying right here." With that, she raised her head so that their lips met for a brief moment before she pulled away, but only about an inch or so so she could look directly into his startingly blue-gray eyes. "You know that I really care about you, don't you?" she questioned out of the blue. "Somehow you've become one of the most important things in my life, and I don't know how. I think I might have more than just strong feelings for you, Gavin Sawyer." She smiled at him.
