"No, I really doubt any of the gods want to get involved in my personal issues. They've got better things to do." One might wonder why Isaac was walking along the beach making such statements. Especially considering he was making those statements out loud, which meant the gods could hear him if they were listening in on what he was saying. It wasn't his smartest move, but to understand it you'd have to rewind a little. You'd need to know why he'd been down here to begin with.
Isaac had come out here because he had some open time in his schedule, and had ended up with his mind going back to his strange dreams. He couldn't seem to escape thinking about those whenever he wasn't busy doing something. He just wanted to figure them out, seeing as they weren't going away and they were driving him crazy. Eventually he'd found himself wishing for some guidance from his mom, but he'd never known Athena to interfere much. He knew she'd given Annabeth that cap of invisibility, but that had probably been for a more important reason than this. She was the goddess of wisdom, which led him to think that she wasn't about to interfere in things without a decent reason for it. And besides, she'd interfered once on his behalf already. It was the only reason he was even at camp.
As far as other gods went... Well, he was pretty sure that they also didn't interfere without a reason. Sometimes they'd help out their own kids. A few had been known to contact the children of other gods too, but usually when that person was on a quest. And it wasn't like that was always to the benefit of the person who they contacted. Sometimes it was more of a hindrance, and sometimes the god or goddess had an ulterior motive.
But regardless, no god or goddess was going to help him with this. It wasn't that important anyways, unless Alice was in danger, and Gail had already pointed out how illogical that was despite that she herself had suggested it. No, she suggested it as being unlikely, not as being the reason. You're the one who panicked and thought Alice was in trouble.
He sighed. "I just wish that for once I didn't feel like such a nobody at this camp," he said. "I'm just one of those background figures. I mean, I'm pretty sure Annabeth's had at least two quests, and I haven't even gone on one." What exactly was he doing? Was he trying to justify sneaking out of camp? Was he trying to put himself down, make himself feel like he'd never really be a hero? Actually, I have no clue. And now I'm just hoping nobody has been paying attention to what I've been saying. I'd rather not find out what happens if they were.

Apollo was wandering. He didn't have a reason for it, other then he could find no reason to go back to his Olympus. He was rather enjoying the company of mortals. Unlike most of the others he had liked being around people that couldn't zap you out of the sky or drown you in the middle of a desert. Apollo liked normal, well if that's what you considered it. To him being human was sort of odd. He had grown up around gods and titans. But to humans he was the oddity and he preferred to be strange. It always attracted attention and it did wonders when it came to flirting. Apollo pushed that thought to the back of his mind, it wasn't even close to important just then. The beach on the other hand, now this was nice.
On his walk down the shore he stumbled upon a young demi-god. He could tell near instantly, a son of Athena no doubt. Over the years Apollo had gotten good at spotting his siblings children. It also helped that this one in particular had been claimed and mentioned once or twice. From that distance Apollo tried to make out hat he was saying. He was sure only Mania ranted to herself like that but apparently he was wrong. The kid sounded pretty troubled and Apollo debated on whether or not he should step in. Athena wasn't really one for interfering with her children. Mostly because technically they weren't supposed too. But technically Zeus and Poseidon weren't supposed to have children either. Seeing as they both broke the rules, Apollo didn't see any problem in doing the same. Worse came to worse Athena would be mad. He didn't really want to deal with his sister's wrath but it wasn't like he had anything better to do.
"You know I hear it's bad for your health to talk to yourself," he said now in stride with the young demi-god. Compared to Apollo the boy was walking rather slow. The whole walking together thing to a moment of adjustment at first. The sun god had never really liked to walk slow, there was too much to be done. Unless of course he was wooing, there was always time to stroll then. This however, was not exactly one of those occasions. He didn't want to rush the boy though and so he did his best to keep pace. "What's got you so bothered kid?" he asked. Apollo did care, but he didn't want to seem too concerned. He had to draw the line somewhere. The last thing he needed was someone elses kid always looking for him to help. That really wouldn't go over well.

Isaac turned some to look at the man who had come up alongside him. It was strange, but he he had a sinking suspicion that this wasn't just a normal guy. For one, he was older than most of the campers, and he definitely wasn't any of the staff members Isaac knew. Dionysus didn't take this much interest in the lives of the campers, and he wasn't a satyr or Chiron. For another he had an appearance like some sort of chiseled sculpture come to life, like the epitome of what the Greeks had considered perfection. He had bright blond hair, and, while it wasn't like he was overly concerned, the concern he did show was kind of layered in this carefree attitude. Isaac had this nagging feeling this was somehow the answer to his prayers, the ones he'd probably been unintentionally making by even mentioning the gods.
He studied the god, since that's probably what he was, for a moment more before answering. He was suspecting from the laid back demeanor, tan, and appearance that would make most girls turn and stare, that this was Apollo. Which would technically make him Isaac's uncle, but then again that technically meant that all demi-gods were related. Considering demi-gods dated, Isaac was pretty certain that only immediate relationships - like siblings or parents - were given much attention. "You're Apollo, aren't you?"
Stupid really. You didn't talk out loud about the gods unless you wanted one to appear. But now that one was here, at least Isaac could try talking to him. Though he shouldn't make a habit of going to Apollo for help. Athena might not like that her son was going to someone else for help, and Apollo did have his own kids. Isaac sighed. "I'm bothered by the fact that demi-gods have to have dreams that are visions and messages. Mostly because I've been dreaming about my mortal sister. I'm worried what that means for her. I can't figure out what the dreams mean."
Isaac shook his head, his pace picking up a little because he felt so awkward spilling his guts, metaphorically speaking, to a god. Then again, I'm sure there'd be consequences if I lied. I'd rather not find that out the hard way. I've never been much for pissing off the gods. It wouldn't reflect well on my mother. "I'm not even sure why I'm telling you this. No offense to you. I just don't see why something so small should matter to you. Heck, I'm not sure why it's bothering me so much when you consider that my mortal family kind of told me they want nothing more to do with me."

708 // Isaac // Understanding
Even after all these years there were some things he just never got used to. For instance, the time it took people to figure out who he was - if they didn’t all ready know - the way they looked him over carefully trying not to offend him. It was weird, he felt like a bug under a microscope. Fortunately he was the sun and there would be no burning him. Unless of course Zeus had the microscope but even then it was a doubtful event. The other thing is when their mouth finally caught up with their brain and said. Apollo?
Half the time he wanted to laugh and say he was Zeus. Chances are the big man wouldn’t come down looking like himself, when ever he did come down. So there was no real way of knowing he didn’t look right. It didn’t take much to be overly angry either, even he could pull it off if he was in the right mind set. Namely the Roman one. Apollo decided that would be a rather cruel trick though so he settled for a less dramatic reply. “You’re Isaac, aren’t you?” It was a semi-logical response that he figured a child of Athena could appreciate. If the demi-god was Isaac, then the God is Apollo. This way technically, Apollo never revealed who he was and interfered too directly. It could be described as more along the lines of an accidental run in. At least, that’s what he intended to say if anyone asked him later on.
When the kid began to talk about what was bothering him - or rather rant really - Apollo felt kind of bad. Technically the prophetic dreams were his fault. Unless of course he was just paranoid but it didn’t sound that way. He had half a mind to say he was sorry, but gods didn’t really apologize to any one. They just fought it out until eventually someone lost shamefully. There was never much shameful losing on his part, mostly because he never really fought battles he couldn’t win. He was wise enough for that at least.
He was rather happy when Isaac picked up the pace, freeing him to take longer more relaxed strides. Then his rant to questioning his company and Apollo was slightly offended for a moment. He never understood why people said no offense when what it followed was offensive. How was that not supposed to bother you? Isaac was right though, Apollo could think of a good reason he would tell him either, so he didn’t blame him. Apollo was sure the self doubt would end there but he was wrong. The Athena kid had to go and say the taboo words. Why should something so small matter to him? These mortals, even half mortals seemed to so easily forget that he was one of the first gods to help them. Even is some ways befriend them. Small things had the ability to ruin the world. It was like pulling a string on a sweater and then unraveling the whole thing. Not only were you left cold but you had no sweater. Moments like that sucked and in is mind, no one deserved to be left out in the cold.
“Sisters are a very serious matter, In fact I have one darling sister of my own and if I thought something happened to her, let’s just say there is nothing I wouldn’t do.” There was nothing in the world that Apollo could be more sympathetic to then a brother’s relationship with his sister. Sure he and Artemis rarely saw eye to eye and his mission when ever he saw her was to drive her insane, but she was still his sister. For he would do anything - even die - and that was saying a lot for a very proud immortal. “What you are going through, it’s a lot for them to adjust to. They are losing you in a sense, while you are gaining a whole new family.” Family issues on the other hand were not his best subject. His own family was vast, very complicated and had a flare for the dramatics. “What exactly have you been seeing in these dreams?” he questioned curiously.

You're Isaac, aren't you? The question wasn't a direct answer to Isaac's question, but Isaac understood what it meant. If the demi-god was Isaac, then the god was Apollo. He probably couldn't officially tell Isaac who he was, something with the whole not interfering policy. It was probably better this way. Apollo could help him without getting too much flack when he returned to Olympus, but the answer still told Isaac who he was. It had been phrased in a way that he, a child of Athena, would understand it. The thing he didn't stop to think about was that Apollo actually knew his name, but maybe that was a good thing to not ponder about.
Isaac felt like several times during what he'd said he'd forgotten who he was talking to, but maybe that wasn't a bad thing. He'd been completely honest with Apollo. He wasn't ungrateful for his prophetic dreams and didn't want to imply that Apollo hadn't helped humanity over time or that he couldn't help Isaac now. And, despite a few points where Isaac might have stuck his foot in his mouth, he didn't seem to have angered Apollo. Admittedly Isaac hadn't been looking for any helpful comments on his family, though he'd take the ones Apollo made into consideration. He'd been more worried about figuring his dreams out, and Apollo seemed to understand that.
He hadn't realized Apollo was that close to Artemis, but some part of him knew that was who the god was talking about. And maybe it wasn't a bad thing this was the god he'd run into. Apollo was the god of prophecy and understood Isaac's position when it came to Alice. Just maybe he could help Isaac figure out if she was safe, because that's all he needed to know. He wanted to know the meaning of the dreams too, but that could wait for now.
"The first two dreams I had were just memories. Alice, my sister, was with me twice when I was attacked by monsters. The first time was a dracanae we ran into walking home from school when I was ten. The second time was when our family therapist turned out to be an empousa. That happened when I was thirteen, it was just before I came to camp." That was why they'd thought the visions meant danger. But the third one didn't fit. The more Isaac thought about it, the more he realized that it was kind of the odd one out of the visions. There was nothing about monsters in it.
"The most recent dream was something current I think, an actual vision. Alice was older than the last time I saw her, which was about a year and a half ago. She was sneaking out of the house. She kept going on about having proof or getting proof. The word was kind of hard to hear...." His words trailed off for a moment. "Anyways, she got caught out, and it was after curfew so she was dragged back home. There she got into a fight with my step-mom, but I really didn't hear much of it. Just something Alice yelled at my step mom about everything being the fault of her and my dad, and how Alice hadn't wanted things they way they were."
Isaac shrugged. "I talked to one of my sisters through Athena, Gail, and at first she thought they might mean Alice was in danger. But we both figured I hadn't angered any demi-god or god enough that they would send a monster after my mortal sister. And I don't really have any clue what they could me, unless I'm just overlooking something completely obvious." He looked up at Apollo. "All I really want to know is that she's safe. I can live with not knowing the meaning of the dreams for a while longer, just as long as she's not in danger."

722 // Isaac // Intrigued
Apollo particularly liked encountering campers with half a brain. Even though he was the sun god and acted like a child most of the time, people tended to forget he was also the god of intellectual thought. It was nice to be able to flex his brain muscles every now and again. The left side at least, because according to mortal scientists - who he believed from time to time, unless they said he didn’t exist - the right brain was creative, which meant his right brain was overworked then. He stopped thinking about the scientific mumbo jumbo, it wasn’t really important. Those people weren’t nearly as smart as they thought they were. There were some people though whose intelligence was genuine, mostly children of Athena but some were better then none. Apollo returned his attention to Isaac, done with his rant. It all stemmed to the fact he was happy that he could be of some use to some one, things had been rather boring as of late. He had been feeling quite worthless, despite everything he had been doing.
Listening to the dreams the connection seemed rather obvious to him, though he supposed most people didn’t know they could cause their own visions sometimes. Also that if they cared enough they could influence those dreams. Like most people, include those dope scientists, they believed dreams were random. “Chances are you were subconsciously thinking about your sister, which is what caused your dreams to occur as memories. These dreams, I am sure, made you nervous, which caused you to focus even harder on your sister causing you to have a vision.” He choose his wording carefully, how knowledgeable did he sound if he said I guess they made you nervous?
Listening to Isaac’s vision he quickly decided this was a rather interesting mortal. In the back of his mind he added finding this sister of Isaac’s to his to list. There was something very curious about this mortal and Apollo wanted to be one of the first to know what it was. When Isaac looked up at him, expecting reassurance, Apollo was quiet for a moment. Finding out the fate of someone you knew next to nothing about was rather hard. Fortunately, Apollo enjoyed a good challenge now and again. “The only people could do something like that are gods and the only one who would is Hades. Since I know he would have little interest in you - nothing personal, that’s a good thing - he’s not hurting your little sister.”
All the while explaining to him Apollo’s mind was somewhere else. He was going backwards and slowly working forwards. It all started with Isaac and eventually he found the girl he assumed was his sister. Then he traced it forward and after only a few seconds it all made sense. Apollo grinned, this was sure to be interesting. Giving Isaac what he wanted Apollo would let him wait to see exactly what he had accidentally discovered about his sister. “You’re sister is fine. In fact better off the most. But I must say, this should make for an interesting family reunion.”
He supposed that last part wasn’t very reassuring but, it went along with not interfering too directly. Isaac asked for an answer and gave an exception, both of which Apollo obligingly followed. Now it was up to him to figure out the rest. He seemed like a smart kid so Apollo had faith he would figure it out eventually. “Just because you’re a demi-god doesn’t mean you always have you have to expect the worse kid. You should tell your sister Gail the same. Some times you stumble upon certain gifts that make you not so alone in the world. Embrace them for me will you. Life is more fun when you like the people in it.”
It was like there was little bell in the back of his head yelling at him. Enough said! Time to go! STOP INTERFERING! Things along those lines. Despite his genetic dislike for orders, Apollo knew he couldn’t deny these. “Good Luck Son of Athena.” With that he was gone. Almost like he hadn’t ever been there in the first place. The only remaining evidence being the footprints in the sand next to Isaac’s and even those were being slowly washed away.

Isaac listened to Apollo give him what initially sounded like a psychological evaluation, trying to explain why Isaac was dreaming about Alice. Though that wasn't to say it didn't make sense. After the first two dreams he'd been worried about Alice, so it could be the third one was the only important one. Still, he'd hoped for something more definite, even if he knew that the gods would never directly interfere. Apollo might give him some direction, but he wasn't going to just tell Isaac what it all meant. Or it was highly unlikely he would anyways.
What he said when he continued was helpful, at least the beginning of it. He confirmed that it was highly unlikely anyone was trying to get at him through his sister. Then he went even further and confirmed that Alice was okay - although Isaac didn't understand the comment about her being better than most - but after that things got confusing. He made a comment about there being an interesting family reunion coming, and Isaac couldn't help but wonder what interesting meant.
Isaac nodded at the comment about not expecting the worst just because he was a demi-god. "Right, I'll try to do that." And he would let Gail know too, though to be honest she had thought from the beginning that it was unlikely and had suggested it as something they could write off. Isaac had been the one to jump to the wrong conclusion. Then there was the comments about stumbling upon gifts that made you not so alone, and embracing them. Isaac figured he'd know what that meant when the time came for him to 'embrace them'. And since Apollo asked him to embrace them for him, Isaac told him, "I will," with a somewhat confused smile.
Then came the moment Apollo wished him good luck and vanished into midair. Nothing remained but the fading footprints and Isaac's memories of that moment. To be completely honest, he'd gotten more out of that conversation than he'd expected to. It still didn't make some of what he'd learned any less cryptic though, nor did it tell him what the meaning of his dreams were. Or dream, I guess, since it sounds like he was saying only the third one was a vision. Still, he was grateful to at least know Alice was supposed to be safe. Because of this, he couldn't help but murmur a quiet, "Thanks," at the space the god had previously inhabited before turning back the way he'd come.
