Gavin knew this quest was going to be a disaster from the start and it was all because of him. The lines in Harper’s prophecy suddenly made sense now, and the betrayal was going to be all on Gavin. He had to do this though he didn’t want to turn away from it. Gavin was silent on their way to the falls. It was busy, go figure. Why they didn’t decide to go at night he had no idea. A crowd of people wouldn’t stop the wonder twins. Swallowing past the initial guilt Gavin starred at Harper from the corner of his eye. He didn’t want to leave her behind. She was the one regret Gavin was going to have about this entire situation. It damn near broke his heart just thinking about what this would do to her.
He saw the signs pointing to the Cave of the Winds, the place Harper had suggested they start. To their luck the Cave was closed for some reason or other today. The three of them would be alone with Phobos and Deimos and Gods know what else. Gavin shifted the position of the bag on his shoulder. The sword was awkwardly placed inside making it difficult to hold properly.
Yes. Come, we’re waiting for you.
The voice suddenly spoke again causing Gavin to stop in his tracks. He blinked and hid his true expression of surprise from his features. They were standing at the entrance to the Cave of the Winds now. Phobos and Deimos were inside and hopefully so was the aegis. Gavin dropped the duffle bag and withdrew the Way of Dawn twirling it in his hand for a moment. He reached to his back pocket and froze for a moment. The note Harper had given him the night before was still in there. He hadn’t read it yet, and was almost tempted to in that moment. Gavin looked to Harper and took her hand hoping to portray the look that read as an apology. He squeezed her hand momentarily before glancing over to Sophie and forcing a smile.
He rolled his shoulders and cleared his throat. “Alright girls, let’s go find this stupid aegis and get this over with. Here comes the sun.” He muttered sarcastically in reference to each of them being a child of a God of light. Gavin hesitated screaming inside his head for the voice to speak again. He figured everything was quiet now and the next time he’d hear it speak was when they came face to face with Gods of Fear and Terror. “Question, what exactly are we looking for? I get that it’s an aegis or thee aegis or whatever. But what does it freaking look like?”

This was the part where Harper wished that she'd brought a jacket. She'd forgotten how, even in the summer, it was fairly chilly it could be here at the falls. Granted, it wasn't freezing, but Harper never liked to feel cold. But she could feel the sun on her shoulders and on her face, and for right now it was all she needed. She was completely oblivious to what was going through Gavin's head at the moment, so she was also content that he was with her. But she didn't go for his hand, still a little iffy on what kind of PDA was acceptable when you were in a relationship. Well, they could figure that out once they got back to camp, so she let the thoughts settle in the back of her mind as she observed all the people around them. It was good the place was getting business, but after all, Niagara Falls was the honeymoon capital of the world.
Cave of the Winds. It was closed. Harper's brow furrowed in frustration as she took in the scene, because she was sure that, whatever they had to do, she was pretty sure it was down there. Through the building, down the stairs, and somewhere in that cavern. That was where her quest was going to go down, and where her prophecy was going to come true. Harper clenched her eyes shut for a moment, trying to quell the fear that had suddenly bloomed in her stomach. She was scared of her prophecy, and she had no idea what was going to happen. She was, on the other hand, miffed at herself for having lost a grip on her emotions at the hotel, but she wanted to prove right now that she was fine... even if she wasn't. If her fate was to die here at the Falls, then so be it, but she didn't want to die. Not really. She wanted to go back to camp, be happy, spend time with her friends Cam and Julia, and above all, enjoy being Gavin's girlfriend. And it was just as she was having these thoughts that Gavin took her hand and squeezed it. It had been just what she'd needed. Harper smiled at him sincerely, her eyes brightening. She loved him so much, and she wondered if he knew it.
"You know, this quest didn't really come with an instructions manual, so no, I don't know what it looks like," Harper then said, somewhat bitterly. All this trouble for something the didn't even know what it was. "I don't even know what an aegis is, or what it's supposed to do. All I know is that there's two of them, and one of them is for like these evil twins or something, whatever that means."
All she really knew was how stupid this was. What was so great about the aegis that she actually had to go on a quest to find it? And why did it have to be her? Harper ran a hand through her long hair, and shifted her backpack into a more comfortable position on her shoulder. Inside it was her bow and quiver, a dagger, and her famous blankie and teddy bear. Her other stuff was back at the hotel, and after everything she would have to run back and grab it before they headed back to camp. "But come on, let's go in. I just want to go home to camp with this aegis thing." Just, the question was... in what state would she be returning to camp in?

Nothing felt right to Sophia anymore. Life was getting more and more complicated, and she could sense that soon it was just gong to end up worse. She kept quiet the entire time as the made their way to there destination. Sophie kept getting a vibe that something worse then death for anyone of them will soon happen, but she refused to say it at all out loud. The thoughts of the previous nights went along with this and it slightly killed her inside, and she prayed silently to the gods and goddess of Olympus to help them along on their journey; as if they would listen. Would Apollo even listen? She thought not, but her hopes where hopefully high, as she didn’t want anything in the world to go wrong. Yeah, maybe her hopes where to high. She tried to get her negative thoughts off by looking around at the others around the three. She was surprised there weren’t any monsters around; that could not be good. In her mind that only meant something worse was still to come. The rumors that two minor gods wanted to take over was roaming the camp; and that though came into her head as they walked here now. What if something where to happen to them while they where here. Out of everything she heard at camp something good or something bad happened as the members of each quest would return to camp. Judging by how she was feeling she knew something bad was going to happen right around the corner. Man being a demi-god really sucked at times. Gavin was the first to break the impeccable silence. Usually Sophie hated silences, but this time for some reason she wished it had stayed. She looked in between the two and nodded when she was suppose to thinking for a moment. Her hand near, barely touching her bow. She did not let it show, and even though this was not her quest she felt kind of pale and sick. She was not scared but in a way she was scared. Scared of loosing Harper, the only family she had left in her life, the only person she had in her life. After Harper spoke, Sophie thought a moment. There was something of Harper’s words that bothered her. All I know is that there's two of them, and one of them is for like these evil twins or something… With that being said she quickly stopped and looked around; the feeling of being watched scent a chill down her spine. After a few seconds, her grip was not loosing on her bow anytime soon, she continued to follow the other two. If nothing was behind them, watching, something surly had to be in front of them. Sophie wanted to say something to the other two. Tell them that something was really wrong, but despite holding her tongue like she usually did, she stopped. “Hey guys hold up for a moment…” she replied looking around then at them. “Does anyone else besides me realize that we have to come up against anyTHING at all, besides the manticore? I just get the feeling we need to be on our toes from here on out. I have a feeling this is a big trap we are about to fall into…” From the hotel to this spot, she really had not said anything until now, and before they were about to full fill Harper’s quest she was going to speak (somewhat) about what bothered her. (Sorry this took me awhile to reply back to. I hope its okay and I miss hanging and talking to you guys)

The sharp tone in Harper’s voice hit Gavin like a knife. He was caught off guard by it but he didn’t show any emotion on his face. She had every right to be frustrated at the moment. But of course soon she would probably hate him and while that was an idea Gavin couldn’t stomach he had to do for Kimberly and for himself. Even for Harper’s sake. He looked at her from the corner of his eye.
“An aegis is like a collar or a cape that makes the wearer basically invincible. Athena has one, and if your quest poem thingy is right we’re looking for its duplicate.” Gavin muttered keeping his eyes peeled for any lurking Gods of Fear and Terror. He wanted to reach out for Harper but Gavin kept his spar hand down at his side with his sword the Way of Dawn in the other.
He took a deep breath and shrugged his shoulder a bit, “And I’m gonna take a stab in the dark and say that this aegis won’t look like your average aegis. If the wonder twins needed to hide it somewhere they would want it to be less obvious.” He stole another glance at Harper. She looked so beautiful and he swore at one point that he wouldn’t let anything happen to her. He would have to show her that what he was going to do had good intentions.
Gavin rolled his eyes as Sophie’s voice broke through his thoughts. He stopped and turned to look at her. She was clever and asking the proper questions. He was willing to bet that Phobos and Deimos didn’t bother sending out foot soldiers because they were so close to the demigods. Gavin had a feeling they would be encountering the twisted twins very shortly. Gavin shrugged his shoulders though; he had to get them to keep moving.
“It’d be a wonder if a quest would go simple and as planned. But yeah, I agree with Sophie. We need to be on alert. No telling what kind of villains we’ll encounter here.” He putting on a good show for the two of them. Gavin already knew what laid a head for them. Gavin gently touched Harper’s upper arm and smiled at her sadly. He didn’t want to leave her but he had already made up his mind about his fate. It was inevitable.

Everything about this was now starting to feel a little bit iffy to Harper, as if there wasn't something quite right. She hated that feeling with a fiery passion, even though she hadn't felt it very many times in her lifetime before this point. But whatever the reason, she knew that something was about to go down. There was just that feeling in the air, like it was the calm before the storm. Maybe even like a hurricane or a tornado or something just as severe. But whatever the reason she felt that way, Harper knew that it was serious, and that it was time to get down to business.
It was then that Sophie spoke, and her words made Harper nervous. She didn't like monsters, and considering that her very first encounter with one had only been just yesterday, the concept of running into more made her downright terrified. But she swallowed the fear, determined not to look like a frightened little mouse in the face of a cat who was about to devour her. Harper bit her lip and looked at her dear sister. "It'll be okay, Soph," she said, doing her best to mask the anxiety in her voice. "We'll be watching each others' backs, no matter what happens. Whatever comes at us, we'll be ready." She glanced over at Gavin and tried to send him a reassuring smile, because it looked like he was having some issues too, but she wasn't sure if it came across as a smile or as a look of terror.
She continued looking at him as he explained what an aegis was, she was all but too aware that the aegis probably wouldn't look anything like what he'd said. Most things that were magical in the Greek universe weren't anything like they were originally described in mythology. Like a sword was just your average pen, or a simple baseball cap served as an invisibility cloaking device. So there was a pretty good chance that this aegis would look like something a normal teenager would have on them, so Harper knew that she would just have to keep her eyes open for it. But still, fear was beginning to gnaw at the bottom of her stomach about her prophecy. She had no idea what was about to happen. And as Gavin touched her upper arm, she looked at him and at least, then, she felt her heart warm a little. Gods, she loved him so much - when had she fallen so hard?
As they wandered further into the closed attraction, the silence was beginning to get to the daughter of Apollo. So was the darkness. And the growing cold, though she had somewhat come to expect it from it being Niagara Falls. But there was something about this cold that sent chills down her spine - not just the cold kind of chills. Like, the something-was-majorly-wrong kind of chills, and Harp clutched the straps of her backpack with the hilt of her dagger sticking out of the side pouch for easy access. "Guys, is it getting really cold to anyone else but me?" she asked, the fear starting to break through into her voice. She hated herself for actually allowing herself to show weakness, and she absentmindedly drifted towards Gavin and Sophie as if being closer to them would somehow keep everything bad away. "I think we should stop here for a minute. Something's not right."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Because, as a certain god of terror could attest to, something was indeed not right. And he and his brother were about to make sure of that.

Sophie was very hesitant. Despite the warm sun against her neck, the sun trying to break through the cloudiness above, she felt a shiver of cold breathing down her neck and going down her spine. There was only a moment where she wished that she could turn around right now, go back to camp and forget everything, but that was not her. She loved the sense of adventure, but this one she feared would not end well, for any of the three. She told herself, as a breezed brushed her neck, that nothing would go right, and when the time came, whatever the feeling she was feeling, would come quickly and she would meet her fate. She took a side ways glance at Gavin, and just got the remote vibe that she had gotten from him the moment she laid eyes on him. The vibe was neither good nor bad, and she got the sense that he felt whatever she felt. Something was defiantly a head. Gods if he hurt Harper, he would have to answer to her. She wouldn’t let anything happen to the only family she had. It had almost been, what three years, since Harper and Sophie have met and they kept in tact as Harper would leave camp as the school year started, leaving Sophie alone in cabin seven. By this year, she was tired of being alone, and she knew something was to happen soon, that would change her life, permanently. Sophie popped the collar on her jacket, generally like, and gripped her bow, glad she was quick if she needed it. She continued to remain quiet, as if hunter would be in the forest, quiet and alert. Sophia seemed to zone out as the three walked in a somewhat silence, the only sound seemed to be the sound of the three demi-gods footsteps. It was quiet. To quiet. One thing she hated was that dangerous sound of silence. Where did all the people go? They seemed to simply disappear!? At least she thought that. The eldest daughter froze when Harper stopped and simply nodded. She pulled out her bow, ready for defense. (Hey guys! This was the best post I would get in, but I am proud of it because I know I have not posted on the site in a long while (which I am sorry by the way.) I hope this post was okay and I missed you guys!)

Gavin felt Harper beside him and he tried not reach out and hold her close to his side. It shouldn’t have been a hard choice between his girlfriend and a lust for power, but it was. He wanted to take her hand and promise her everything would be okay but Gavin knew that would have been an outright lie. He kept silent and ignored her, keeping his grip on his sword. It was getting a little colder now that Harper mentioned it. Probably not a good sign. He eyed her momentarily. She was the most beautiful person he had ever met. But this was something he had to do. Gavin glanced over to Sophie for a second as well, he didn’t want to get them both killed hopefully they would run once it all went down, whatever “it all” was.
He didn’t stop when Harper suggested it. Gavin turned looking slightly annoyed, “We can’t just stop. Do you wanna get that aegis thing or not? Come on, it’s gotta be here somewhere. The sooner we get it the sooner we can return to camp.”
A breeze picked up turning into a rushing gust of wind tearing through the tunnel. Gavin spread his feet to plant himself firmly to the floor of the cave. He lifted his arm to shield his eyes from the unexpected wind. It lasted for several long seconds before ceasing completely. “That was…odd.” Gavin muttered. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Phobos smiled over at his brother. “They’re here.” he said with cruel pleasure. “I think it’s time we go out and meet our little guests.” He adjusted his sunglasses and fixed his black leather biker jacket, similar to that of his father, Ares and strutted down the tunnel toward the happy little quest members. His chin was lifted with utter arrogance, the kind only shown by a God with copious amounts of pride and delusion of being better than anyone else. Phobos also believed he and his brother Deimos couldn’t lose. This was going to end in victory, their victory.
“Look what we have here Deimos, three little demigods who have lost their way.” Phobos stopped about two and half yards from the group.

Harper adjusted her jean jacket around her, pulling it tighter as the cold air began biting through the material and chilling her skin. Goosebumps raised on her arms, and she was pretty sure that she was starting to shiver. She was accustomed to to the warmth of the sun, and there was no sun down here in this cavern. There was hardly even any light at all - in fact, Harper could barely see. And it was scaring her, though she'd never tell anyone or admit that out loud. She was used to constant light. Even during her years of traveling with her mother, there was light in the hotel rooms that would keep her feeling safe and sound. It wasn't her fault that she'd never gone to sleep without some kind of night light.
She was hurt, however, when Gavin turned around and snapped at her, annoyance in his tone. Harper even visibly winced, though she continued to look indignant. The reason she had winced was because she could feel that there was something underneath his voice - something else other than common irritation. Him being an ass had just come to be expected over time, and she'd learned to accept it and try to put him in his place whenever the situation called for it, but there was something different about the way he addressed her this time. "It's not like we have a time limit on this quest," she pointed out with a huff. "I mean, something just doesn't feel right-"
She was cut off immediately by the breeze which quickly picked up into a blazing wind. Not having expected it, Harper stumbled backwards for a split second before managing to plant her feet a decent distance apart and holding her own until the wind completely cut itself off. Her eyes shifted between Sophie and Gavin, her eyes fearful. That sense of wrongness had only increased, especially since she knew that, despite its name, the Cave of the Winds was not very windy. And Harper knew that. "See? There's something wrong," she whimpered. Harper didn't even think before reaching to her side pouch and drawing her dagger. She shivered once more, and opened her mouth to say something further when she was cut off by a voice from within the cavern. Harper froze.
"Stay away from us," she managed to say, trying to hold her chin up as she made her way to stand between Gavin and Sophie. Her voice shook a little, but she was trying her hardest to be brace. After all, she was the leader of this quest, and she had to act the part. "If you stay out of our way, we won't have to hurt you."
~*-------------------------*~ Deimos chuckled, yanking his leather jacket to fit better over his broad shoulders. When his brother finally told him that the demi-gods had arrived, he snorted. "Finally," he drawled, sounding almost bored with the situation. "I hope you're right about this Sawyer boy. We can't afford to take a no from another demi-god. Let's get rid of those other two quickly." He pulled up the collar of his jacket, completely confident in his ability to pull the look off as he set off after Phobos down the cavern.
He grinned nastily, letting his brother initiate the conversation. As long as he got to potentially break a few limbs and end a lite or two, he was satisfied. Just this once, really. Phobos was more of a diplomat to these sniveling little idiots than Deimos was, and he knew that and recognized it as a fact as opposed to a disadvantage. After all, he'd rather not deal with them and all of their petty mortal problems, so he was completely fine with letting his brother take the front seat in that department. "So, which ones do you want, brother? I'd like to take one of the girls ,myself," he remarked smoothly, as if dealing out death was something he did on a daily basis (which, it practically was).

Sophie kept a hand on her bow behind her and kept quite. The sun was hidden behind the clouds, a feeling of obvious trouble scent a shiver down her neck. She swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat and looked to the sky. A part of her wanting to turn and run; but another to stay. She gave a quick side glace at Harper and Gavin. Running her free hand threw her long loose hair, Sophie quickly pulled it back into a low pony tail, not something she did often, unless she felt the need to, like now. Something was going to happen, what, she just wished she would know. The breeze brushed her hair off her shoulder, and looking around her, wished that someone would break the silence between the three. Where had everyone gone, so quickly. Was a storm to come? She heard a hummer, then silence. What the… Sophie looked ahead of her, after giving another quick glance at Gavin.
Was he uneasy? Then again, who wasn’t on a quest? She zipped up her jacket, to block the cold and so to move when she needed to, and took out her bow from behind her, cocking it for readiness. A million thoughts surrounded her mind as she felt Harper beside her. Sophie felt on edge, of course, she always felt on edge when she felt that shiver go up her spine. As she was about to say something, in reply to what Harper had said, as she looked ahead, she saw two up a head.
Not recognizing either of them at first. Then as they approached, a voice in the back of her head sounded familiar. From a nightmare perhaps but still. Eyes burned in the back of her memories. Where…where… there was that one where she was at…her thoughts were quickly cut off by the voices of the two in the present, then to Harper who spoke. Her brown, green eyes shown, saying she was not going to hold back. Sophie knew these had to be gods, for if they were monsters she would have a totally different feeling in the pit of her stomach.
She kept quiet, attempting to be respectful, and strong at the same time. With a strong grip on her bow, she stayed on her toes observant between the two in front of them, and the two at her side. And let the games begin.

Phobos watched the trio carefully form behind his Ray Bans, his blood red eyes just itching to take a glimpse at one of their worst fears. He had already seen inside the boy, Gavin’s mind and knew his weakness and fatal flaw, his greatest fear. People without anything to lose were easy to control. But Gavin was a fiery spirit and Phobos and his brother Deimos would not have complete control over this foolish boy with their threats alone. Still, this ambitious son of the Dawn Goddess was going to lead the charge into battle without a moment hesitation. So the Fates foretold it, so it would come to pass.
He noted the concern in his Deimos’ voice before but never gave a reply to his brother. Phobos was only sure of a two things, that Olympus would crumble, and that the two of them would take thrones on Olympus. Phobos would not let anything stand in his way this time. Minor Gods would topple Olympus or destroy every single half-blood trying. Phobos continued to stare at them in the dim cavern. They were just teenagers. Zeus had teenagers fighting his battles and the almighty Kronos had been defeated by these teenagers and some younger. A boyish grin pulled across his equally youthful face.
“Easy now Deimos, we haven’t given them a proper greeting yet. Though I doubt we need an introduction. Look, I can see them tremble. They already know they are in the presence of Terror and Fear.” His gaze shifted to Gavin. Phobos studied his would be champion judging the boy. By posture alone Phobos could tell the boy had already made up his mind. “Are we enjoying our quest? Having fun fighting monsters and smelling like…mortals. I really never could stand the smell of demigods” he noted to his brother.
Phobos chuckled for a moment before cutting himself off and resuming his serious expression. His hands reached inside his jacket pocket but froze there grasping onto something. “I’m going to get right down to business because frankly, Deimos might start killing you before I had a chance to give you an option. I hear you’re looking for the aegis of Athena. This thing right here.” Phobos pulled out a black beanie and twirled it around on his finger. He made a face, “It’s not the actual aegis mind you but it’s a great copy. Sad thing is, we can’t give it to you to finish your quest because we were saving it for a special someone.” Phobos lowered his glassed and peered over the rims.
“Someone who would have the opportunity to take their place as our champion and the leader of our army against Zeus. Cause who wants bolt boy up there calling the shot huh? He ignores the Minor Gods and treats you all like little servants. My brother and I are appalled by such behavior.” there was clear falsehood in his words and on his tone. Still his voice was smooth and something a person could listen to and get lost in if they were not aware he was the God of Fear. He pushed his glasses back up and took a step forward.
“So, which one of you lucky demigods would want a chance at some real power, and a chance to get back Zeus and his little Olympus Country Club buddies? Haven’t they ever wronged you some how,” he turned his head and stared at Gavin. “Didn’t their lack of caring get your sister killed Gavin?” his lips twitched into a malevolent smile, still holding some boyish qualities. “Son, we both know how much you hate the Gods. How much you want to avenge your sister’s death. But most of all, we know that you can’t resist the temptation of power we could offer you beyond just the aegis.” Phobos paused giving a side-glance to his brother. He was on his way to getting Gavin to sign on the dotted line. He held the aegis up dangling from his finger. “If you don’t take it, well we’ll just have to kill all three of you and move onto the next group. The other two are welcomed to join mind you, the more the merrier they say.” Phobos took one last deep breath, “Come on, Gavin. What are you afraid of?” W O R D # //720

Despite the betrayal Gavin knew he was about to commit, he still felt the strong need to protect Harper. When Phobos and Deimos showed themselves Gavin instinctively stepped in front of Harper putting his arm out to block her from them. Harper tried to be brave. That was unfair, Harper wasn’t trying to be brave she was. Gavin wished that she hadn’t said anything though. He made sure that he was between her and the double mint twins. Way of Dawn was in his other hand ready to go but Gavin had no intention on using it. He stood silently and watched with a cool neutral expression glancing over to Sophie. Gavin didn’t want anything to happen to either of them. He was willing to bet that the Gods of Fear and Terror wouldn’t spare them if they decided to fight. Gavin hoped the two of them got out while they could.
As Phobos revealed the aegis, a simple black beanie, Gavin took a deep breath. He remembered the sense of power from his dream. Gavin wanted it. He tensed when Phobos mentioned the purpose of the aegis. Phobos and Deimos knew damn well who they were going to give it to. Gavin remained silent and patient a small voice in his head trying to talk him out of jumping ship to the other team.
He eyed Phobos upon the mentioning of his sister. Gavin clenched his fists and began to vibrate with anger. He hated the Gods for what happened to his sister. He did blame them, he blamed them all for everything that happened to him in his life. It all came down to one thing, Harper. Harper Marowski, the best thing to ever come along in Gavin’s life, he loved her and now he was about to throw that away.
Gavin didn’t reply for a minute. He stood still staring at the beanie-aegis that hung on Phobos’ finger. He clenched his jaw, swallowed his pride (as hard as it might have been) and took a step forward. Without looking back to Harper or Sophie he approached Phobos. He stopped only a foot from the both of them. He acknowledged Deimos his expression still hard to read. But there was greed in his eyes; there was no hiding the power he sought in the aegis. Gavin took a deep breath and knelt before them. “I pledge my loyalty to Phobos and Deimos, the Gods of Fear and Terror.” he turned his head only slighty stopping before he could make eye contact with Harper. Gavin could only imagine the hurt in her eyes.
His heart pounded in his chest ready to burst. In a perfect world Harper would follow him. She wasn’t like that though. Gavin knew Harper enough to know she would die protecting her friends and family and no matter what the cost she would rather die than side with the ones who would hurt the ones she loved. She was amazing and stronger than Gavin in that light. He loved her for it. “I will be your champion.” he promised. “Just tell me what you want me to do Lord Phobos, Lord Deimos.” WORD COUNT”527 NOTES”my heart just broke into like a million pieces : ( OUTFIT”H E R ESONG”pretending

Almost immediately, Harper felt her heart begin to pound as she gazed upon the two gods. Strange, how people so small could make her feel so scared. Gavin stepped out in front of her, holding his arm out as if to give her some kind of protection, and her heart warmed but only slightly. She almost shrank visibly at the comment that one of them made, about taking on one of the girls, and then the other spoke. He seemed like a the leader of the two, and Harper gripped her dagger and slid it out from her backpack while he was talking. She would do whatever she had to do to finish this quest. To prove herself.
So, Harper kept her dagger in sight, glaring at the God of Fear. He was her obstacle? She would take him down. But then, of course, he pulled out the aegis of Athena. Harper's posture suddenly went very tense and she stared at the aegis almost with a yearning expression. How was she ever going to get that thing away from him, even with Gavin and Sophie's help? He was a god, and his apparently psychopath brother Deimos was one as well and was hellbent on killing them. "Well, that sucks for whoever that special someone is, because I need that aegis," Harper declared, proud that her voice didn't shake one bit. "So you'd better drop it before I have to come take it by force." But then she frowned. A champion? Leading an army? What did that mean? It sounded scarily like what Kronos had tried to do a few years before. In fact, it sounded like the exact same thing.
"You're crazy," she said flatly. "Someone a lot more powerful than you tried that once, and we beat them. We can beat you just as easily. The Olympians are a lot better rulers than you could ever be on Olympus. For one, they're not-" She broke off the instant Phobos began addressing Gavin.
Misunderstanding clouded her eyes as she frowned, confused. What were they-? Suddenly Harper's heart skipped a beat. She remembered. That very first day that she can Gavin met... when they'd been arguing... and he'd displayed one of those rare moments... "My older sister was the only person in my life that didn’t think I was crap. She also believed me when I said monsters were real. She died because of me, and Dad knew that. She was killed while I was fighting one off." Gavin's sister. Almost immediately, she cried out, "No! No, Gavin, it wasn't the gods' fault! Don't listen to them! They're crazy. Live for your sister by making yourself happy and slaying monsters whenever you can, like that manticore!" Harper saw it before she really believed it. His posture, the look in his eyes. She couldn't believe it. He loved her. She loved him. He was going to stay with her, fight for her, fight with her against these maniacs, help her achieve the one thing that would make her feel like a halfway decent demi-god... and yet everything about his body language suggested otherwise. But she had faith in him. He was her Grumpy Gavin.
He stepped forward. He was going to tell Phobos and Deimos to back off. Harper's heart lifted a little...
Before it came crashing down and shattered into a million pieces. Harper's breath stopped short as her eyes widened and something broke inside her. "W-What? Gavin, Gavin, no!" Her lips trembled as suddenly all of her confidence fled from her, and her knees shook. Tears welled up in her eyes. Had... had Gavin... had he actually... Oh, gods. He had. She... Didn't he love her? Her hands shook, and the dagger dropped from her hand as she stared at Gavin in a mixture of disbelief and heartbreak. She'd thought that they'd shared something special. They they'd loved each other. It had all been a lie. Every word, every touch, every kiss... he'd hated her all along. He was going to betray her all along. He was going to try and kill her father, her friends, her family... he was going to kill her. Harper dropped to her knees involuntarily, suddenly having lost all of her strength in them. Everything felt so wrong inside of her. Was everything supposed to feel like it was twinging, twisting, snapping, breaking?
Gavin was their champion. He had left her. Harper's breath starting coming in pants - had it always been so hard to breath? She hardly noticed the tears that started leaking from her eyes. "Gavin..." she whispered, barely able to manage that one word. "Please. No. Don't do this." Her voice turned to a sob, as she felt her heart give a final twist before it shattered into even more pieces.

Sophie’s mind was going several different ways, instead of focusing on the task at hand, as soon as when the two minor gods of Fear and Terror had approached them. They were about the same height as her, but with the vibe she got from them, size didn’t matter. Heck looks didn’t matter either. Take Sophie herself, she was pretty and looked innocent enough but mess with her…and well yeah just don’t mess with her. She gripped her bow again, trying to shake the nerves she suddenly got. She kept her mouth shut, knowing this was much worse then when facing a monster. If something happened, she knew she had to try and defend herself and the other two, but honestly in her mind their would be no point about it. The girl looked at Gavin and Harper, then back to the gods. Gosh this was not going to end well. She ignored the sarcasm her own mind had seemingly come up with. Of course it was not going to end well! Duh!
She looked at what one had pulled out, was the so-called aegis was. Really? All this trouble for a little thing that was nothing more then a beanie? Wow bribery did not suite.. Okay well yes it did suite the two but that’s beside the point. She gave another look at Gavin and Harper, but still not taking her eyes off of the two in front of her, she knew better not to. She listened to Harper speak and automatically thought of how proud she was of her little sister, and couldn’t help but suppress a smirk, but then remembering who they were dealing with, Sophie lightly tugged on Harper’s jacket, nervously, trying to tell her silently to not provoke them. If she was scared she didn’t show it, because she wasn’t she was just a bit nervous.
The eldest daughter of Apollo, kept her mouth shut, as her mind racked ideas on how to possibly get out of this deathly problem that had now occur. Now since they were demi-gods, of course there were hundreds, if not thousands, if not millions of things that could get them killed; Not just the mortal stuff but with being a demi-god you had the chances of being killed my monsters, or some other ridiculous situation that should only belong in the books. She thought maybe just giving them whatever it was they wanted, until they started talking…or one of them, whichever one it was talked; she stood stuck. What kind of person would give up everything for power, apparently they would not have a soul if they did… her mind suggested. At least it suggested it right at the time did Phoebes…or was it Deimos… well one of them said Gavin’s name. Wait…Gavin? She quickly turn to look at Gavin. “Gavin, please! You can’t go through this with them! Please what about Camp? Whatever happened I’m sorry, but that’s in the past you have to go on!” she replied, trying to help her half-sister talk Gavin out of it.
They knew which demi-god they were after, if not all three of them, but Gavin? She was about to ask Gavin what they were talking about, but was in a bit of a shock. Wait did he just agree?!? “Gavin! You can’t be serious!” she could not help but say the first words that slipped out of her mouth. She looked at the terrified, or what looked like terrified Harper who was standing in between them, well now on her knees, she automatically dropped her hand, from her back, and crouched down by her little sister, trying to hold her up. Sophie hated seeing people like this, and since Harper was the only family she practically had (other then her other half siblings and her step father) but the only family who cared about her, she was angry. No one hurt her family, not physically not even mentally. “For Underworld’s sake! Gavin! You can’t do this! Think about what you are doing!” was all she was trying to say, doing every well to help her sister be strong, and by not taking her eyes off of the other three.
