Annabeth had been avoiding the lake at all costs whenever she could. This place just held bad memories. Mostly, they had to do with Percy. A couple weeks ago, this was a happy place, of fond memories and good times. Now it was like a sore spot sitting there and harassing her with the fact that it, like the boy she associated with it, was in fact not leaving this camp any time soon. She’d already skipped out on too many lessons during her time of shutting herself in her cabin that she had started feeling guilty. So, naturally, she was back to being prompt and attentive at her lessons and training now. But it seemed the Fates were playing a nice joke on her when, go figure, today’s lesson in Master’s Monster Assault Techniques just happen to focus on the challenging aspect of aquatic monsters.
It was an interesting and useful lesson, no doubt. There was really only two cabins here at camp that held much confidence in facing an aquatic foe: Poseidon and Triton. Most other campers, herself included, were at something of a disadvantage. So she couldn’t argue that the it would have been a better day to skip in that regard. The tightness in her chest, however, told her different. Because due to the nature of the lesson, it had, out of necessity, brought them to the lake. Sure, the excitement of a young sea serpent thrashing about at them had taken her mind off of things during the class, but the class was over now. Everyone else had left for the next assignment. Her schedule marked it as time for letters to home, but she honestly didn’t feel like explaining all this mess to her dad and step-mom yet, seeing as both of them were rather fond of Percy. So she stayed after with the excuse of helping Chiron clean up, then stayed even later after he had grudgingly left.
She was pretty sure a good five minutes had passed since she last budged, but what did it matter? She had an hour and a half to move anyway. Or probably more like an hour now, but she didn’t feel like checking up on that. She just sad a ways off from the lake and watched the water shimmer. She’d started out on the dock, but that was a little too close for her comfort. Not to the water, but to the memories. That, and the nyads were not fond of her. Maybe it was because she kicked a rock in at them and then otherwise refused to acknowledge their existence. Nyads were so annoying. She remembered back to Percy’s first day at this camp, when he’d gotten side-tracked by the nyads and for a minute had looked like he wanted to just jump in and join them. She should have let him, she thought bitterly. Then again, at the time she didn’t realize that he was perfectly capable of doing so. Well, and the whole destined to get her out of camp on her first quest and end up saving the world from a crazed Titan. Details. Word Count: 523 Tag: Ellie the Amazing!

Water was one of the the only places Ellie was comfortable around. Her Cabin, the Lake, the Strawberry Fields and the Arts and Crafts tent. Those were the mild places in Camp that weren't overly scary. It wasn't a big surprise; this was a Camp to train people to fight and survive monsters. Everywhere else in the Camp was big, scary and intimidating. Even the Mess Hall was a bit scary. Yes, she remembered one of her first days... hiding under a table. First impressions... lovely. Then again, faking good impressions was just like false advertising. Yes Camp was crazy and hectic... but it what made Camp Half Blood, Camp Half Blood.
As the lake came into view, she remembered meeting a few of the older campers here before. The thirteen year old wasn't the only one who found tranquility in the water, apparently. Her mother had said that there was science around water and a person's mood, but to Ellie, who now knew whose daughter she was, it made all the more sense. Lately, she had been realizing that even though she was Percy's sister, not everyone would jab at her for it. Speaking of Percy... he had been acting sorta... off lately. She didn't exactly understand a lot of it, but he just seemed more down than before.
Her eye caught the older Athena camper. Annabeth. A slight smile flickered over her face. They had talked on the hill before, plus during that whole Mess Hall fiasco. Ellie sighed, sometimes she just thought this place was a complete anarchy. It was like no one had control over these demigods at all. Then again, she wondered if administration would approve of it. Most of these fights were beneficial for training and stuff... Positive side: Food fights could improve aim. Other than that, Ellie just saw it as... just plain crazy, but still even she had had the urge to throw something for a nano second. She would of done it too... but the prospect of something else hitting her was rather high.
Ellie's mind switched gears as she realized that her legs were automatically bringing her to the lake's shore. She blinked. The water reminding her of her father, her father reminding her of Percy. Before, Ellie had seen her brother with Annabeth a lot, but not so much anymore. Had they... broken up? If they had, then that was sad. She liked Annabeth, and she obviously loved Percy... this was kinda going to be awkward. The more she watched Annabeth's figure, the more she realized that she was staying stock still. "H-Hi Anna, Annabeth," she called softly; Ellie didn't want to interrupt her, but she didn't want to scare her if the daughter of Athena decided to turn around quickly.
The camp seemed so... tense these days, and it was putting her on edge. It was like they thought that they were going to break out in fighting at any moment. Fine, maybe she was a little shut off and innocent, but she knew high tension in the air when she felt it.

Annabeth watched the nyads picking up after the damage the sea serpent had done to their basket-weaving enterprise, which was rather hard to see from this angle, but all the same. The sunlight glittered on the slight waves. It was beautiful in the same way that death was. That the gleaming perfect edge of a guillotine’s blade was. Inviting pain. Well, it was working. She officially wanted to go back to her cabin and skip the rest of the day. Skipping the rest of the summer would be nice too. Go back to school, start up her senior year in high school with her school friends, see her family again, away from Percy and the looks she got here at Camp. It seemed like a good amount of people didn’t know what to do with her now days. She used to be a hero, someone to look up to. Then Percy all but killed her and what was she now? An object of pity? A sore spot? Apparently she was at least the latter to Percy Jackson. He didn’t trust her… she couldn’t get that idea out of her head. After everything, the whole Titan War and everything leading up to it. And he didn’t trust her. What a nice stab.
She was doing what she usually did with any problem: analyzing. Maybe if she figured out if she messed up somewhere and where it was, she could fix things. She’d be lying if she said she didn’t still love the son of Poseidon. That she didn’t miss him horribly. That she didn’t wish he’d just show up and admit he was wrong. But she’s thought this through so much. And there still was nothing to help her sort out the answer. She hated to think that some questions didn’t have answers, but maybe this one was just beyond her.
A noise, or more specifically, a voice, made her jump. Not just the fact that there was a voice, because there were people shouting and talking all around camp, but its proximity. And the fact that it was directed at her as well. She turned to face the voice’s owner. It wasn’t Percy, coming to apologize, as she’d been thinking about before the voice broke in. But at the same time, she was sort of glad; she was in no way ready to face him. Instead it was about the closest thing to Percy as this camp had to offer: his younger sister, Ellie. She remembered several times talking with Ellie. She seemed like a really nice girl, and though Annabeth had never come out and said it, she’d sort of mentally accepted Ellie as her own little sister. Dating the girl’s older brother for so long sort of helped with that, but still. The fact that that factor was no longer there didn’t really change her opinion of Ellie.
She smiled a little, though it felt forced, weary. She hoped it didn’t look that way. “Hey, Ellie. What brings-…” The realization dawned on her halfway through the question and immediately felt rather stupid. She was standing next to the lake. That was like an open invitation for children of Poseidon. Why was Ellie here? It was a more legitimate question to ask why there were trees in the forest. “Right. Nevermind. Anyway, how are you?” Small talk. Yes, she was still capable of small talk. And for someone with a personality like Ellie, so long as she ignored relatives, she could probably go for real conversation too. Who knows? It might actually be beneficial to the both of them, as Ellie didn’t exactly look happy and chipper either. Word Count: 609 Note: Don't worry about it! I'm the one that's ridiculously late! lol
