Images flashed through her mind, ones she did not remember even having. Were that supposed lost memories of that day she didn’t know. Everything from that day to now seemed to have froze like her life. She shook her head and sighed. Walking into the forest, she found a quiet spot where she could think.
Sitting, and as Sophie sat back and closing her eyes, took in the sun. She loved just doing this. Once winter hit, that would be a sad time. She would miss the warmth; and when the snow hit… she shook her long brown hair not wanting to think about it. That time she would be, or should be starting college. Maybe someday, but maybe not this year, at least high school was in the past, and eighteen was ahead, no longer a child.
Words are just words. Sometimes there is no meaning behind them, sometimes there is; But as of this moment, as of today, There does not seem to be another word to say. Long ago, child happenings seemed to stride; But today, as of now, you don’t know if you live or die. Today, tomorrow, next week is new. But all I really want to do is see you.[/center][/i] She sat up then. Did she really just write that? Sighing she looked up watching the clouds. It really was a lovely day and she owed her father that much. The daughter of the Sun God couldn’t help but think though that something was wrong, or right in a matter of fact. Or just something big was about to happen in general. Something strange. She shook her head. No not today, she would not allow it. Her mind automatically went to her love ones. Her family, or half-siblings. The only ones in her life. She touched her bow and arrows beside her in thought. The classic “zen” walk of the day was long overdue for Ren; usually he took it in the cool, crisp morning just as the sun would begin to rise, but some minor distractions this morning had deterred him, much to his chagrin. It wasn’t enough to set his somewhat fragile temper alight, which was a relief, but his restlessness throughout the day was making it clear that his skipped walk was dearly missed. On that note, he’d finished his usual weapon training with his katana and quickly set it aside. After stopping by the mess-hall for a small snack to take with, he made a beeline for the woods.
He found himself running hand through his slightly sweat-dampened hair, ready for a little span of time of absolute freedom in terms of letting his thoughts roam free and his muscles relax. These were more than likely why he had such a good leash on the infamous temper of an Ares child. He’d made it his goal in life early on to understand what set off this alien side of himself and how to keep it in check. This quiet moment in the sun-soaked camp away from the mass of other demi-god kids, most being younger than him, was a kind of relaxation he couldn’t resist. He idly took a bite out of the apple he’d taken from the mess hall and savored the sweetness as his feet lead him a little deeper into the line of trees, his thoughts deeper into reverie.
Which was why he hardly expected to run into the girl. His feet came to a stop at the edge of the clearing, his lips parted in a slight “o” that reflected his shock in finding another demi-god seeking refuge in the woods. After a moment he was able to take his eyes off of her, moving towards the bow which her hands rested upon. Slightly worried that he’d be catching her by surprise, he held his hands up in a sign of truce and swallowed before speaking. "Sorry, I didn’t expect to run into anyone else out here.”

Her mind was else where. More then one place actually. One part of her mind, was a flashback of Harper’s quest, and that first morning. Harper, Gavin and her had just gotten on a bus to head off to wherever they were headed. After getting off they get attacked by a man who looked very familiar, who she may had seen in New York when she went by herself. His eyes she could never forget. One blue and the other was brown… That Mainicore. She shiver at the memory. If not for Harper, she would not even be here right now. Other than almost dieing twice… no she was not going to remember that.
As much as she wanted to be on her own quest, and always wanted her own quest, to prove something not only to herself, but to her father, Sophie now hoped she never had that opportunity. And if she did, she would go by herself, and not put anyone else’s life in danger. She would never forgive herself if someone got hurt or worse killed because of her. With that mind set, she now new how Ryan must feel about Aria.
It was after she got back, that life was not normal. Sophie was not taking anything for granted anymore. Then again, she really never did, and now she was more cautious. Sophie however was glad that she was not dreaming anymore at all. Was that a good or bad thing? Oh well right now she appreciated the break. She took her hand off the bow, and sat up in her spot, her dark brown hair blowing lightly in the breeze, letting a few strands blow in her face.
When hearing a noise to her left, she quickly stood and brushed herself off. Surpringly, she was not as jumpy as she had been before and right after the quest. She looked up, seeing a dark haired guy, about a year older then she was. Ren, she knew, or thought that was his name. The only reason why she knew his name, amongst the others at camp was because, like her, he was one of the older campers. Unlike the rest of the Ares campers, he was different. Which is what she liked…errr appreciated. “Its alright. No need to apologize,” she replied. “Ren, right?” she asked just making sure she was right. She was pretty sure.

Ren couldn’t help himself from looking the unexpected company over. He noticed her dark hair and her hand tensed on her bow. He watched her rise from her spot with faint interest, unconsciously noticing her lithe movement. He met her eyes as she addressed him, smiling despite himself. For once, he didn’t mind the interruption on his walk. In reply to her question he nodded, rubbing the back of his head in an unconscious gesture of slight nerves. “Yeah. Ren Nakamura, at your service. But I can’t help but wonder what a girl like yourself is doing out here alone?” A –pretty- girl, he’d wanted to say. But he was way too embarrassed for that. He hoped she didn’t think he was being chauvinistic; he’d just had his share of encounters while wondering the woods. She seemed prepared though, with her bow in hand.
Instead of dwelling on her presence in the woods, Ren decided to turn to other avenues of conversation instead. Such as her name, for instance. He was mentally kicking himself for not knowing her name as she seemed to know his. Which surprised him, because he was pretty unpopular just because of his cabin and he also kept to himself most of the time. “I.. I’m sorry. But I don’t have the pleasure of knowing your name…” He trailed off awkwardly, switching from one foot to the next and playing with the drawstring on his hoodie. He was flipping through his mind’s eye meticulously, looking for any memory of the girl and what her name might be. He was sure he’d passed her from time to time at the archery range. He kept going and remembered that he’d seen her at times at the Apollo table when he decided to publically attend meals. So, a daughter of Apollo.
He realized he might have been staring in her direction as he was lost in thought and felt embarrassed. So as not to seem to be focusing too much on the girl in front of him, he absently took a bite of his apple and looked around, savoring the beauty of the clearing he found himself in. He took in the trees and the sky. Even the breeze was pleasant on his skin. He cast about for anything else to focus on besides his company until she answered him, and took another bit of apple to be distracting. He scuffed his shoe in the dirt underfoot and crossed his arm over his chest. clearly he had very little experience with girls and it was making him incredibly anxious.

Sophie shrugged a moment, before loosening her grip on her golden brown bow. She saw that he was alone, which was surprising for someone from his cabin. Usually there was always two or three of them together. Well unless you count Ryan, but he was someone different as well. “I find it just nice and peaceful away from camp. Sort of like a mini vacation, from camp, I guess you would say,” she replied. It was much more wordiness, at least she thought, and she had no idea where it came from. She tucked a loose piece of hair that was in her eyes, behind her ear and studied him for a moment. She had seen him around camp obviously before, and he was one of the Are’s children she could actually stand, as he wasn’t like them. Which she had to admit that she really liked liked about him. She also had noticed this her first time at camp when she saw him, almost three years ago.
The girl smiled a bit. “Its okay, don’t worry about it. I’m not really that important, so it’s not that big of a deal. I’m Sophia Greene, eldest daughter of Apollo, which makes me cabin counselor, for now. But most people just call me Soph or Sophie.” Usually Soph would have rolled her eyes at such a comment from anyone. She had been there for three years after all, surly she was not invisible. Or was she? Surprisingly, however, that it did not bother her. He seemed to feel bad about it, so naturally she just told him the truth. She was not that important. Just another demi-god walking the path of life. Well until a monster comes along and triess to kill her, but even that’s possibly the normal routine outside camp.
Soph watched him. Was he okay? He didn’t seem like the rest of the guy campers at camp that she had seen. Usually they were laid back, and not at all anxious, well if you don’t count the new campers that is. She leaned her bow against the nearest tree, and leaned back, resting her back against it. Wondering what was going on threw his mind. Why was he avoiding looking at her. She looked down for a moment or two, thinking her appearance was not that bad, at least she didn’t think so. Comfortable jeans that came to her knees, black -sort of the appearance of a mix of hiking boots and running shoes, and yellow tank top, with a grey lighter 70s-80s style grey shirt over it; even a little eyeliner, was the only makeup she wore. Sure she was not the prettiest girl, but she didn’t really care; she liked her style. She looked back up at him now, her head tilted to the side, wondering what he was going to say, or even if he was going to reply.

As the girl replied to Ren’s inquiry as to why she was out in the woods, he found himself smiling, his nervous fidgeting coming to an end. “Yeah, I definitely know what you mean, about the mini vacation. I come out here for walks every day myself, for similar reasons. Camp just gets… Annoying sometimes. Always something someone’s got a problem with.” He smiled apologetically, realizing that he was about to start ranting. It was strange; despite his nervousness, he really wanted to know more about this girl. Sophia was her name. Or Soph. He thought he would like to just call her Soph. Now that he thought about it, he realized that he had seen her around on several occasions, usually at bonfire (if he bothered to attend) and occasionally at the archery range, on the occasion that he’d stop to watch her style, if not just for the prowess she seemed to have for the sport.
The fact that he didn’t know her name was one of his embarrassing traits. He was sure someone must’ve let it slip when he was around, and surely he should have remembered it from the announcements about the cabin leaders every year. Yet, unless he became personal friends with someone or someone was extremely prominent in his life in some other way, he never remembered names. He scratched the back of his head, another nervous habit, as an unconscious product of his embarrassment. Before the silence stretched too long, however, he opened his mouth. “Soph. It’s nice to meet ya.” He found himself looking at her, remembering that he’d really enjoyed watching her from the sidelines of the range where her arms would flex powerfully, and yet she managed to pull off a cute but not too girly, style. And today as well, she really looked...nice. I definitely want to get to know her, he realized with mild shock that he hoped was not registering on his face at the moment.
Within seconds he composed his features into an easy smile and forced himself to relax. He took the last bite of his apple and set the core down by a tree gently before straightening, forming ideas. “So, I don’t normally ask for company, but since we came out here with similar goals, do you want to walk with me? Maybe company is just what we need in this situation.” Feeling really self-conscious and really hoping she wouldn’t say no, he waited for an answer, perhaps less patiently than he would have, usually.

He seemed to be ranting a little, which was not something the guys around camp did, especially the Ares’ kids. It was kind of cute…wait did she really just think that? Then again she ranted once and a while as well. It was the awkward silences that really got her, that and nervousness, but this time she did not feel it. If there was an already connection between the two demi-gods she was completely oblivious to the feeling. There was only one other she felt that with, but that was what seemed like forever ago. She could not help but smile with him. Tucking a loose piece of hair back behind her ear, and pulling her hair back into a low side quick braid, she looked back at him. She had noticed there was at least something going on in his head. It was the way his eyes looked. She found herself fighting back a small smile, biting her lower lip, usually when something was going on in her own pretty little mind. There was something different about him, something no other demi-god, probably not even her, that held…well something, even if she or anyone knew what that something was.
“You as well…well uh officially, I guess that you would call it,” she replied, with another genuine smile. The Apollo girl thought it was interesting to have a civilized conversation with him that was not about camp, really, or fighting, or surviving monsters, or really anything. So this is what a real conversation is like, she wondered, even if nothing really ever was said, but silent official introductions. Sophie let her bow balance gracefully on the edge of her form as she stood there as the slight silence grew.
He had dark hair and dark eyes. Dark warm eyes that did not seem to hold any anger, which was rare when it came to an Ares’ child. Rare even for Ares himself, well at least she thought so. This intrigued her a bit, and when something intrigued her, naturally she wanted to learn more. Before anything else was said, his words interrupted her mindless thoughts.
What he said had have been a first for her and she hoped the surprised that skipped her heart and mind did not show on her face, nor her eyes. Her emotions once in awhile showed in her eyes, which was a downer when need be. Naturally as what was going on in her mind, the girl nodded. “Yeah I would like that. Thanks,” she replied as she put her bow and arrows over her shoulder behind her, so she would not have to carry them.
