---------------------- It was not until mid morning when the eldest daughter of Apollo awoke first. Thanks to Harper, Sophie was better then ever. Her leg was still a bit sore but she figured after some more ambrosia she would be a lot better. Sitting up and running a hand threw her dark brown hair, she looked around the room taking a few moments to realized where she was and how she had gotten there. The Manticore! Gavin and Harper! As she looked over to the other bed, she saw them sleeping, safe and sound. In away, it did not bother her, even if it did. Sighing silently to herself, the Apollo girl got out of the bed she was in and stretched, her leg stiff from not moving for a period of time. Sophie quietly grabbed an apple from her bag next to her bed and headed to the door careful not toe wake Harper and Gavin, as she thought they both needed and deserved and great break; especially after what happened at yesterdays events. Heading outside, she felt the warm sun on her face which now seemed to glow a healthy glow. It seemed as if she was the only one around at this time and she took advantage of that time. Of course she was cautious and made sure her pocket knife was on her before taking a step further. She quietly walked past the hotel’s fountains along the rocks and felt the cool water along her finger tips, coming to a stop for a moment. In the rocks someone had shaped a heart with the initials of S. & M. She looked way from it and shook her head. She was not going to let him come to her mind. Not when today they were going to Niagara Falls to full fill Harper’s quest. She wondered what would come of the day. What excitement or horror was in stored for the trio. Sophie was not one to think negative and she wouldn’t, not when they were so close. She was glad that her and Gavin where finally getting along after months on end of there sneer looks behind Harper’s back. She sat down in the grass for awhile and looked around. It was really peaceful here and she was glad it was a change in scenery from Camp… After finishing her apple that she had gotten from her bag, and after sitting there awhile she did think it was time to head back. Getting up and brushing herself off she could not help but feel as if she was being watched. Looking around and not seeing anyone there, she quickly left her warm spot that she had been sitting in and went to go get some other food to take back to the other two. She was careful when she got back to the room as to see no one followed her and went in. She put tray that consisted milk, waffles and some other things down on the table and turned when she heard a stir on the bed behind her. ---------------------- Note: Hope this was okay for a starting thread! It had probably been one of the best nights of Harper's life. She'd fallen into a deep sleep, exhaustion permeating every single part of her being after having faced the minotaur and a long bus ride with hardly any food. Her arms had been around Gavin, his arms had been around her, and with her Mr. Blankie wrapped around her legs she'd been perfectly warm and comfortable. Gavin had definitely been a sufficient enough pillow, his heartbeat had served as a lullaby until she was too far into sleep to hear anything. And once she hit that, the dream had started. It wasn't exactly a nightmare, but it definitely wasn't the best dream she'd ever had either.
There had been rushing water, a lot of it - so much of it, in fact, that it couldn't be anywhere but Niagara Falls. She was in a tunnel for a minute, then on a bus alone for another. There was Gavin and Sophie... everything just seemed to be a blur except for a few flashes. There was a flash of two hats... both of them appearing to be beanies, and one of them just felt like there was something wrong with it, and that was the one she most remembered. Until the end. There was a scream; a scream that pierced the air and pierced her ears and made her entire head hurt. The scream induced such fear in Harper. It made her think of falling, and before she knew it she was falling through her dream, the scream still echoing as if it was determined to follow her until the end of time...
And that had been when she'd woken up. Harper'd started, letting out a squeak of terror as her eyes flew open. The world had turned bright again, and momentarily she'd forgotten where she was. It was so warm and comfortable that for a minute she thought she was with her mother in a foreign country. "Five more minutes, Mom," she chose to grumble, feeling a little tired after the nightmare. She buried her head in her pillow. "The pool doesn't open until ten, remember?" As she continued to bury her head in her pillow, she suddenly remembered where she was, who she was with, and the pillow she was burying her head into was actually Gavin's chest. Her eyes opened wider as the tiredness suddenly faded away and her face went bright red.
In fact, the person in the room was Sophie, with what looked like a full-out breakfast. Harper brightened at the sight of her sister. "Sophie!" she exclaimed cheerfully, but careful to keep her voice down in case Gavin was still sleeping. Harper kept her arms around her boyfriend and yawned and laid back down against him, looking at her sister with brightness in her eyes. "Is your leg better? Did I do an alright job in healing it? I don't think I was able to heal it all the way, because I was way too tired and healing just takes the energy out of me, but I hope that..." She cut herself off, knowing that she was going on a tangent again.
Just very quickly, Harper smiled and turned and kissed Gavin's forehead before looking back at her sister with red on her face. She simply hadn't been able to resist showing even that small amount of affection.

Gavin had been afraid to fall asleep knowing those dreams would return. He tried to fight against the heaviness of his eyelids but only succeeded for ten minutes. His chin hit his chest and he was out. It didn’t take long for the dream to return. It started with the sound of rushing water in complete darkness followed by the sounds of battle. The first thing Gavin actually saw in his mind were the pair of glowing red eyes. He wanted to scream but he was paralyzed with fear. The next image was Harper crying. Why did she have to cry?
You will be great. More powerful than you can imagine, a God amongst mortals.
Then the dream changed and Gavin saw Kimberly’s face. It was a face Gavin hadn’t seen in a long time. He refused to think about her on a daily basis and didn’t even have a photo of his sister. But what was more disturbing was that this scene was from the night of her death. Gavin’s mind and body surged with pain from the memory. Her screams echoed and died out.
You can avenge her death Gavin. Zeus and all of those on Olympus allowed her to die. They did nothing. You won’t be powerless this time.
The thought that he could get revenge for the death of his sister did appeal to Gavin. He had always blamed the Gods for the loss of Kimberly. He had thought about taking up arms against Olympus a few times in his dreams but that’s all they were, dreams. Gavin knew that there was no possible way that he could actually fight the Gods. But if this voice was offering him a way to do so....Gavin felt that power course through his body again and he loved it. He began to thirst for it. It scared him.
Gavin stirred as something began to press into his chest. He blinked slowly opening his eyes the echoes of his sister still vibrating in his ears. Looking down Gavin saw a sleepy Harper rubbing her head into his chest. The action brought a smile to Gavin’s face and for that split second he forgot about his dream. He rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand still smiling down at Harper.
“Morning Sunshine Girl.” He said using the affectionate nickname he had created just for her. It was starting to become his way of saying he loved her, even if it wasn’t exactly clear or if didn’t make sense to anyone else. Gavin blinked the sleep from his eyes and looked over to see Sophie standing tall. His eyes scanned her up and down and there was a look of what seemed to be pride or respect on his face. He nodded to the other daughter of Apollo. Gavin was starting to see that daughters of Apollo were extremely tough.
“Harper you did a good job. Calm down.” said Gavin as she kissed him on the forehead. His stomach lurched and he wasn’t sure if it was out of joy for the kiss or guilt for what Gavin was secretly planning in his head. He tried not to let the concern on his face show. Gavin was becoming a master of hiding his real emotions again. Harper broke down that wall once, but Gavin was repairing it. He had to.
Gavin glanced down at Harper and realized that he was holding her in front of her sister. Quickly Gavin sat up clearing his throat. He felt slightly embarrassed that Sophie had caught them in bed, even if they were fully clothed. It was, awkward. Though Harper didn’t seem to mind. Gavin gave her a look that expressed his concern for the situation. He scratched his head and stretched his arms.
“Looking good Sophie.” He commented. Taking a deep breath he looked back and forth between the Apollo girls. “So, are we ready to kick this quest’s ass?”
Gavin knew what would wait for them at the falls, or at least he knew what waited for him. He must have looked apprehensive and yet slightly eager. Of course there was no reason for him not to look like this they were on a quest. Apprehensive and eager fit well. There was no way for the two to know that Gavin’s emotions rested on one thing in particular, the voice and the power that resided in his dreams. ---------------------- The eldest daughter could not shake the dreams as they seemed to flash through her mind several times. The three that always repeat themselves rapidly. The one where she is back at the cabin, waking up earlier before the sun usually rose finding herself near the lake and where the goddess of Witchcraft had come to her. The one where Hayden had gone ‘missing in action’ when there trip to Los Vegas had gone sour thanks to a certain god of fear. And the current one where she wakes in the middle of the night, in a cold sweat trying to save herself from her deathly fall. Of course thanks to Harper she had not received any this past night, which she was grateful for. Later if she ever got the chance to talk to Harper alone, she would have to tell her what was on her mind. Then again thinking of everything now, she would keep it to herself, until the time came. For Harper’s sake. She jumped a little at the sound of her name and turned to face the two in the bed, and smiled at them lightly. “Its fine Harper. I’ll manage. It is me after all. I really owe you one,” she replied to Harper, telling her it was nothing. She quickly looked away seeing the small or rather large, she did not know which at the moment, affection the other two held for each other and pushed it from her mind. No. She would let this pass until she got back to camp, and she prayed to the gods for help for that. It was something she was always going to miss. No matter what the thought. The main thought of focus was that Sophie would do anything for Harper and even Gavin, even if her and Gavin had not talked or gotten that well in her three years of camp. It was the fact he had always seemed so distance, a bit like her, until Harper and him had started going out…but lately even after he opened up some, he seemed even lost in his own mind. Then again with her own thoughts, Sophie would and could not blame him. Then the sound of Gavin’s voice broke through her water trickling through a crack in a stone wall. Looking good Sophie…So, are we ready to kick this quest’s ass?Smiling a little she looked at the two. “Not before a bit of breakfast?” she replied, though mostly it came out as a question. “I figured something light but not to light…if that makes since.” she replied handing them both plates and taking one for her own. It seemed as if the silence between the three seemed longed as they ate. Then again it had been at least twenty or so hours then the last time they had eaten any real food, since camp. After the light meal, Sophie was ready to go. She was full of energy and took a drink from her water bottle and a little of her nectar for her leg, which seemingly was taking longer to heal then necessary, but she was not going to complain. Grabbing her bow next to the bed she had stayed in, and after putting her bag over her shoulder, she headed to the window looking out for the coast was clear, which it was. She kept looked out as the other two where getting prepared. For her honestly she prayed silently to her father that nothing went wrong for Harper. Even if nightmares did come true, Sophie would not let anything stand in her way, or Gavin’s and Harper’s way either. Mostly Harper’s as this was her quest and her quest journey…and Sophie was just along for the ride. ---------------------- Note: Yeah Sorry was kind of on a ranting spree and put more dialog in then what I usually do...I guess? In reality, Harper really didn't know what she was supposed to do with herself. Was she supposed to take charge, be the leader, considering the Oracle had given her this quest? Because she didn't know how to do that, nor did she really want to - she wasn't a natural born leader just as much as she wasn't a born fighter. She hoped that whatever gods were watching that the fact she was laying down next to her boyfriend, never wanting to leave that spot was enough proof of that. Yesterday, too, was probably enough proof to prove to the gods they'd picked the wrong person for the job. She hadn't done anything against that manticore but taunt it, and in the end it was probably been what had caused her sister to get hurt. Harper was only glad that she had been able to do what she could, even if it wasn't enough in her eyes. She wished she could just protect the other two in her group. Better yet, she wished she would have been allowed to come alone. That way, the only person who would be getting hurt was her.
Suddenly Gavin's arms were no longer around her, and when she looked over at him with a look of surprise and almost hurt, but the look he gave her was enough for her to understand. Letting out a sigh, almost in consent, Harper turned away from him and swung her legs to hang over the edge of the bed. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes and pushed her blanket over. "You don't owe me anything, Soph," Harp told her sister with a smile. "I owe you one for actually going on this thing with me, because let me tell you, I... are those waffles?!"
Harper instantly perked up, her chocolate brown eyes brightening as if there was life suddenly in them again. For there were a few ways into Harper's heart: sunflowers, a hot tub, cheesecake, and, of course, waffles. It was the age-old favorite breakfast meal, and with the right amount of syrup... oh, gods. This quest just loads better. "Food! Sophie, you're the best! I love waffles!" Harper exclaimed cheerfully, scrambling from bed over to the table where she hastily sat down and took her share of the food. She made sure to leave enough for Gavin and Sophie, because she knew that they had to be hungry too. "I can't kick anything's ass if I don't eat first, 'cause I'm starving," Harper told her boyfriend and sister, carving up her waffles into the tiny bits she always did before bathing them in syrup. She licked her lips like a cat licking its chops and dug right in.
Even though she was starving, Harp still managed to maintain a sense of elegance about her as she ate. She used her napkin almost like a proper young lady of England, and drank her milk like a young woman from France. "So, I think I know where we can go looking for the aegis, whatever that is," Harper announced as she swallowed her fifth bite of breakfast. Was this what being a leader was like? Making suggestions? She felt like she needed to take the lead, or else she'd feel guilty when they got back for not having done anything. Knowing the area, that had to count for something, right? "There's a park where we can go and see the falls and everything - we could search around there. It has to be somewhere in the park, otherwise the aegis won't be at the Falls, which the prophecy said that it would be, which means that it has to be here, which means it has to be at the park, and if it's anywhere else, then I don't know what the Hades... oh, I'm rambling again. Sorry." Harper face went a little red with embarrassment and she quickly went back to eating.
"And while we're there, we can see the falls. I know a place where you could get so close to the water you can touch it. But I don't think we'll get to see that part of the Park, because it's not by the Falls. We can see the Falls up close though, and I think that's something you can really only do from the American side, even though the Canadian side gives you a better view of both falls it... oh, someone should just shut me up when I do that."

Gavin sung his feet over the bed. He had slept in his cloths from the previous day. Sleep still hung over him still and he tried to rub it from his eyes. He wanted to forget all about the dream but it was still playing over again in the back of his mind. Glancing to Harper he smiled faintly, just looking at her made a grin appear on his face but for some reason it was getting harder. He looked back to Sophie and half rolled his eyes. His stomach was arguing in favor of food, but Gavin personally wanted to get this quest over with.
“Fine.” He muttered glaring at her. Gavin wondered where she had gotten the plates or had the time to prepare all of this. Gavin snickered at Harper’s excitement for the waffles she was given. Well, if Gavin ever needed to find a way into her heart if she chose to close it, all he had to do was give her a plate full of waffles. That was good to know. Gavin pushed the food around on his plate for a while before taking a few bites. He was still hungry after eating half a waffle but his stomach was churning at the same time, full of nerves and anticipation. He cleared his throat and set the plate aside.
Without a word he stood up and grabbed his bag and shut himself in the bathroom. He needed to change, or rather he needed an excuse to separate himself from the daughters of Apollo. Gavin splashed his face with water and stared at his reflection in the mirror. He hated what he saw. Sophie and Harper may not have seen the same thing but Gavin saw a traitor in the making. He was slowly giving into the temptation from his dreams and if he went through with everything he was secretly planning he would be the camp’s biggest traitor next to that Hermes kid from a couple years ago. It meant losing Harper.
Gavin wanted to break the mirror shatter its dark truth everywhere on the hotel’s bathroom floor. His hands gripped the sides of the sink tightly. Taking a few deep breaths Gavin stood up and turned away from the mirror. He could Harper discussing a plan of action. He changed without looking back in the mirror and left the bathroom trying to force a smile at his girlfriend. It was becoming impossible. He leaned against the doorframe, “Stop it apologizing. It sounds like a good idea. I’ve never been there, I wouldn’t know where to start.”
Gavin moved over and tossed the bag onto the bed and sat down opposite of Harper. He glanced to Sophie afraid to look her or Harper in the eye. The guilt was getting to him and he hadn’t even tried anything yet. Yet. Gavin shrugged his shoulders, “You really think sight seeing is such a good idea Harper? I don’t think we’ll have much of a chance to appreciate the falls what with trying to survive whatever waits for us. This is real Harper, not a vacation. We have to go in ready for anything and everything.” Gavin said. “We have to go in smart and on guard, we can’t just charge in distracted by the gallons of useless falling water.”

---------------------- Looking out the window, she could not help but remember all the dreams and nightmares she had had over the past two or so months; and each month they seemed to be getting worse and more frightening then the first. Something made her just stand there as the other two ate in silence. She looked up at the sky, the sun was now behind the clouds. For her to know that never was a good sign, at least she did not think so. She was beginning to get nervous, yet she would never show it for Harper’s sake. Soph was glad that the waffles had helped one if not two of the demi-gods on the quest, and was glad that Harper seemed to be one of them. Gavin on the other hand…she was getting that vibe again. The vibe she had had once before she had gotten to know him. A vibe that just didn’t seem right. She looked at her reflection then in the window when hearing Gavin come out of the bathroom. It brought her back in mind state and headed into the bathroom herself. She looked into the mirror, after closing the door, and sighed silently. She took off her black jacket, revealing her dark red t-shirt, reading I am who I am. in a fancy silver font. She washed cool water on her face and neck and changed into a white t-shirt and pulled her hair back into a low pony tail. Looking back in the mirror she nodded to herself. Whatever was to happen she could get through it. Sophie grabbed her jacket and bag leaving the bathroom and looking at her two companions. Sophie just made it right in time to here what Harper was saying about the quest. She had to rack her brain for some defintions to some of the words she heard. Aegis? She then remembered what she had learned about it from Greek Mythology: it was a large collar or cape worn in ancient times to display the protection provided by a high religious authority or the holder of a protective shield signifying the same, such as a bag-like garment that contained a shield. Okay yeah that made since not. Through Harper’s talking about her prophecy then apologizing she shook her head. “Its okay Harper,” she replied then looked at Gavin a second as they seemed to have spoke at the same time. She nodded a sorry to him, for that. The girl continued to listen to Harper talk about what the game plan would be and she nodded in agreement, despite what was going through her mind. Heights was not something the girl could handle, and it always was something that would bother her. Even if they were not up that far in the air it was a long drop down the falls, or so she heard. As Gavin spoke up about the falls, saying they wont really have the time, Sophie nodded in agreement. “Maybe Harp…but Gavin is right. In a away I say we just get in and get out. Something tells me, and it might just be me but something doesn’t feel right as we get closer,” she could tell that sooner or later one of the two would ask what she meant and she sighed silently. “Meaning to say…what ever is bound to happen in the next few hours is going to be bad. I can’t explain it, but the only way we are going to survive and get back to camp is if the three of us combined what he have and know, we can accomplish what ever is a head.” Sophie looked out the window again, then back waiting to see what Harper wanted to do next as she and Gavin was ready to take the next step forward in her quest. ---------------------- Note: :3 Words: 642

If you'd asked Harper a few months from today, she would have told you that something had definitely been wrong with Gavin. Something felt off - from the moment he'd called her Sunshine Girl that morning onward. She wasn't sure what it was, nor was she about to ask him in front of Sophie if anything was wrong. After all, she did know him. If there was something wrong, he wouldn't admit it in front of anyone. She was mid bite into one of the waffles when Gavin shut himself in the bathroom. Immediately her eyes grew worried, and Harper swallowed. Was he angry with her? Had she done something wrong? Maybe sleeping next to him hadn't been such a good idea - he probably thought she was clingy now. Gods, she was such an idiot. Almost instantly after these thoughts Harper slumped a little in her chair. She didn't feel much like eating waffles anymore.
Harper managed to take a few more bites of her syrupy covered goodness of a breakfast, and by the end it looked like she'd eaten about 3/4 of her meal. As she finished, Harper drained about half of her milk and pushed her plate away. Gavin had barely eaten anything. Was he sick? Was he sick of her? She really had to start thinking positive, or at least try to concentrate on something else other than Gavin, or this quest was going to fail horribly. She was already a failure of a leader, if last night was an example of anything. She really had absolutely no idea what she was doing. Gavin and Sophie probably knew more, and they'd never been on quests before either. Gods, just thinking about everything was making her nervous and sick to her stomach.
When Gavin came out of the bathroom, Sophie was the next to go in. Harper's eyes zeroed in on Gavin the second he walked out, but it looked like he was trying to avoid eye contact. Something was definitely wrong. She tried to offer a smile in response to what he said. "Well, I guess that's what I'm good for on this quest. Navigation girl, that's me," she said, not entirely sure if she was trying to make a joke out of that or not. Because, in reality, what else was she good for? Fighting? Not really - she could hardly handle herself with a dagger, and while she was reasonably good with a bow and arrow, that was no good in hand-to-hand combat. She didn't have a sword... mainly because she could hardly hold one let alone swing it with any sort of skill. Healing? Well, sure, she was excellent at that, but what use would that be in the heat of battle? Being a leader? Nope. Harper couldn't really do that either. Whatever god had thought she would be semi-useful enough for a quest was probably insane.
Harper looked down as both her boyfriend and her sister chided her for wanting to go sightseeing. But for some reason, it coming from Gavin felt a little harsher than she probably should have taken it. Harper winced at his words. "It's not useless, it's a part of an ecosystem," she protested, in defense of her beloved Niagara Falls. "And I know we're not on vacation - I think last night proved that, if anything else," she then added bitterly.
But then Sophie's words sent a chill down Harper's spine. She looked at her sister, not entirely sure if she looked downright terrified or just incredibly nervous. Probably a mixture of both, considering as that's how she felt. This entire quest was seriously beginning to freak her out. "I hate this," Harper suddenly blurted out, looking down at the hotel carpet. "I don't want to face double the fear, I don't want to battle against the odds. I don't even know how to battle - I didn't even fight in the Battle of Manhattan! Why can't someone else find this stupid aegis?" Harper knew she sounded like a whiny three-year old, but she just didn't want this. She wanted to be back at camp, with Gavin and Sophie, where they were safe. She wanted to continue volunteering at the infirmary, taking care of campers who got hurt falling off the rock wall or got sliced up in sword training. This was too much for her.
Without warning, Harper pushed back, snatched her bag, and went into the bathroom. Her turn to change. She hurriedly got into a new pair of jeans and t-shirt, and washed her face and re-combed her hair. She really wished she could take a shower, but Harper knew she didn't have time for that. Her attitude not having been improved much, she went back out to the main part of the room and let out a sigh. "Sorry," she said softly. "I just... I don't know what I'm doing. I really don't. But, um... if we're still talking strategy, I think we should go to the Cave of the Winds. There's a tunnel that's always blocked off I think we could check out. It could be where the aegis is."
