Julia couldn’t say she would have blamed Alex if he had been calling Apate a liar. She was the goddess of deceit after all. She had expected the goddess to go off on them, actually attack like Julia had been expecting since she showed up in the alley. Instead she calmed down. Julia smirked slightly; had her Charmspeaking really had an effect on a goddess? She had used it on demigods and mortals before, monsters even, but never on a god or goddess. Well even so… It didn’t seem like the best idea to push her luck with it. Getting on Apate’s bad side didn’t sound like a good idea. For all Julia knew she was there already.
”Well, technically, New York is my home. Or California depending on how you look at it.” She had been born in the sunshine state but had attended school in New York most of her life. She didn’t feel like going into details with those facts so she let that slide. ”Oh, believe me I will be.” She muttered as Apate said she might want to think twice about leaving camp from now on. Julia cringed slightly as Apate laughed; that was not a laugh of happiness. ”I don’t care if he’s better than I am with a weapon. If I think he’s creepy then I’m going to call him creepy. Simple as that.” And if he tried to attack her she would find a way to talk him out of it with Charmspeak. She had already used it once to calm him down, why not again? Julia couldn’t help but roll her eyes when the goddess called her a girl after her own heart. The last thing Julia wanted to be was someone who’s actions Apate approved of.
”Well hey, if Eris was after you then I don’t need to be in the middle of all of this, do I? You’re a smart enough boy, you’d make it out.” She smirked at Alex, and it grew into a full-out smile when Apate seemed to fall under the Charmspeak again. But it faded just as quickly, replaced by fear, when the goddess jumped down from the dumpster. Julia took a step back before reminding herself that she didn’t want to look weak. Despite the fear she felt, Julia looked straight back into Apate’s eyes as the goddess glared her down. ”It was worth a try, wasn’t it?” She asked, raising an eyebrow. ”But why don’t you go ahead and finish your sentence, Charmspeak free? What were you about to say? That it’s nothing more than what you already told us?” She might have been pushing it there, but at least she wasn’t trying to use her powers against the goddess this time.

Goddess of Deceit. One had to be an idiot not to call her a liar. The best thing she was good at was lying, to be put frankly. That was her sphere of power; it was what she was the goddess of for goodness sakes! Of course him calling her a liar did little to phase her. It was when he lowered his voice that she became "concerned". He gave her a slight glare as she asked. Gods, did she have to be so nosey? It was as if she got paranoid if she couldn't hear everything. "Jessie," he spoke up, looking at the creepy girl. "You know, from Toy Story?" he asked. Duh, of course she'd probably know, unless she didn't go around the mortal world and get involved or whatever. "What you said was something she said in the movie, that's all," Alex shrugged. He had been the type of kid who memorized movies, the dialogue and all.
"Depending on how you look at it?" he asked skeptically. What Julia said didn't really make sense in his head, unless there was more than the story then she was divulging. It was smart not to be saying to much infront of Apate; on the flip side, the goddess may just make Julia spill it if she got curious again. Alex didn't really have a home anymore. None that he acknowledged, anyway. Going back to his father was out of the question. Even if he did, Derrick would... not appreciate it much. Kath's house was... more or less a home. More less to the Alex than more.
Alex was about to point out that he had never really wielded a weapon in his life until meeting his mother, but then decided against that. Them knowing that he was pretty much useless with a weapon wasn't that great; especially if they were both against him, which he was assuming they were. He gave Apate a slight glare; even though he was just a mortal?! Of course, he should of been used to it, but it still irked him. To them, he was always going to be at a disadvantage because he was the mere mortal. Not a drop of immortal blood in his veins. Level negative infinity. "Well, thanks," Alex growled.
The boy just shrugged as Julia went to address him again. He just met Eris and the others in the Lotus Hotel and Casino for gods sakes. Alex wasn't about to go into full cahoots or anything with her! He gave a slight growl and glared at the daughter of Aphrodite. "I guess," he said mildly, rolling his eyes. Next moment, Apate was leaping off the dumpster and advancing on them. He gave a fleeting look at Julia. Why the hades had she been that stupid? Trying to sway a goddess like that?! Half of him agreed with Apate's words. These demigods were so conceited, thinking that they could pull almost anything off...
His first instinct was to step back; his recent training with his mother dearest told him not to. Not knowing if this would be good or bad, he stood his ground unflinchingly, his eyes watching Apate with increased caution. As he heard Julia speak up again, he shot her a "Will you shut up?!" look; he was 95% sure that she'd ignore him, but he could try. At the demigods last few questions, Alex couldn't help but be curious. On one hand, he wanted to know what Apate would have said if the charm stuck. It wasn't like she'd answer now, but the answer would sure be interesting. On the other hand... he wanted to keep his life. Ticking this goddess off was not the way to go.OOC: OMGODS I am SO sorry for this wait *covers eyes in shame* Proph muse sorta hit a flat line for a while -_- Character Name: Alexander "Alex" Ruckshack Word From the Character: >.> I take offense Me: Deal with it, sheesh! Apate rolled her eyes at Alex. He was quoting children’s movies? Honestly? “Right, if you say so. Don’t expect me to start wearing a Stetson. Not my thing.” She turned her attention back to Julia, who for once wasn’t giving a 20-minute explanation on something. Good, maybe she was learning something. Probably not, but it was worth a try. “New York, California, both full of crazies, makes little difference. I don’t feel like going into much detail, so we can just say your home is that over-grown daycare most of your kind call home anyway.” She had no real fondness for Camp Half-Blood except that it kept all the really easily picked on kiddies conveniently in one place if she got bored. She smirked at Alex. From his comment, she guessed that she wasn’t the only one to this the Aphrodite girl was a bit too… well, beating around the bush.
Blowing out a long breath of air with an obviously bored expression, she let them talk on, arguing to some extent about Eris and why they were there and, basically, who was a bigger loser. In her book, they were both pretty high on the useless list, being, well, not immortals. Though, come to think of it, there were a whole lot of immortals on her useless list as well. More on her need-to-be-kicked-in-the-backside-all-the-way-to-Tartarus list. Oh well, same difference.
Finally, it seemed Blondie McDorko remembered she was there, and unfortunately for her own good, she did so in a very unhealthy manner. Charmspeaking. Blasted children of that ditz dove and their blasted inflated egos, thinking they could pull these sorts of things off. Against her even! She left her dumpster perch and completely ignored both Alex and Julia’s personal bubble. “Worth a try, hmm? I’d ask if your mother ever taught you anything about respect, but I know her and I know she doesn’t understand that word either. So, perhaps it’s my turn to try something.” Her eyes turned pitch black as she summoned her magic. This was her favorite part, something she usually would savor if she hadn’t just been heavily insulted. Breaking into other people’s heads was always a good time. And torture without having to lift a finger was handy. But this little demidork needed a real lesson. Something to ensure she would not go around Charmspeaking just anyone anymore. Perhaps covering her body - even if not literally - with those worse-than-sword-gash little paper cuts would be an appropriate way to illustrate why one should not talk back to the goddess of deceit. Julia rolled her eyes as Alex compared the goddess to a character in an animated movie. Yeah, that wasn’t disrespectful at all. Well at least Apate didn’t get angry at it, so that was a good thing. Or at least Julia hoped that was a good thing. Maybe the goddess was the type to let anger boil and build up until it exploded everywhere. That wouldn’t bode well for either of them.
”Don’t worry about it.” From the sounds of things Apate didn’t really care to hear about Julia’s hometown so she didn’t feel that going into detail would be a good idea. If they got out of this and Alex actually cared then maybe she would explain it to him… No, that was a lie. If she got out of this she was hightailing it back to Camp Half-Blood and not leaving for quite a while. Maybe actually attending some training sessions so she could do more than Charmspeak in a tight spot like this one. Though she doubted a sword would do much more than anger Apate like her use of Charmspeak had.
Julia just shrugged her eyebrows at Alex after his reply about Eris. Honestly, if the goddess had been after him then Julia would have been perfectly fine with her coming back for him. Her eyes widened at Alex’s look when Apate leapt from the dumpster and came towards them. What? She had genuinely thought Charmspeaking might work. And it almost had. Julia knew she should probably just shut up before she got herself into any more trouble, but she wanted to know what Apate had been planning to say before the charm broke.
Unfortunately it didn’t seem like she was going to find out. And there went another goddess taking a dig at her mother. First it was Eris and now Apate. Julia’s fists clenched as the goddess spoke, though she wasn’t stupid enough to try and take a swing. Julia’s eyes went wide as the Apate’s went black. This couldn’t be good. She looked over to Alex for a second, unsure of what to do, before looking back at Apate.
And that was when the pain started.
”Ow! She let out a gasp when the first sharp twinge hit her. She couldn’t exactly place where it was, but it hurt. And more came. And more. The demigod let out a scream as the pain intensified, like there were small cuts all over her body. She looked down at her body and nothing was there, but the pain was definitely real. Wasn’t it? She looked back at Apate, tears spilling out of her eyes. ”What are you doing? Please, stop!” Her voice was much quieter and had lost the attitude it had held before as she begged the goddess to let up on whatever was happening.

What the h*ll is wrong with me? Don't fit in with anybody How did this happen to me? ~I'm Just a Kid, Simple Plan "Jus' sayin', sheesh!" Alex said, half rolling his eyes. He could be pretty witty, childish and disrespectful if he wanted to be. Quoting animated Disney movies was in the childish category. Doing it to a goddess was under disrespect and getting possibly annihilated. Apate seemed like his brother in the respect that she'd probably let everything simmer and grow to the brim until she ultimately blew. An evil goddess blowing up in relation to emotions? Not the best situation to be around her in. Alex didn't really care though, not at the moment anyway. He was the mortal and everything turned out badly for them, anyway. Might as well accept a suffering fate early.
The goddess of Deceit just continued forward, towards them. She didn't look happy at all. Then again, what evil immortal was ever happy unless they were doing something horrible to someone. Foolishly, Alex would think that Apate would stop her progression forward at a respectable distance, enough to give them some breathing space, but no. She just kept walking straight at them. Alex just held his ground, no matter how much his instinct told him to take a few steps back. And Julia was talking about him being a creeper? Someone had to seriously define "personal space" for Apate, because she obviously didn't know what it was.
For a fleeting moment he wondered why Julia had that weird ability to make everyone feel calm. Was it just making others calm or doing things that she wanted them to do? She sounded equally as persuasive as calming. It must of been a demigod thing, power, whatever they inherited from the god side of the family. Did it go for all demigods or just kids of the love goddess? Alex wasn't sure and he really had no time to start asking questions. He was pretty doubtful that she'd even answer them. Now he was just getting concerned that they were about to deal with a ticked, and eerie immortal.
Drawing his weapon wasn't an option unless he wanted to keep his head and life. Apate let out another jab at Julia's mother; Alex just hoped that she wouldn't take another swing to make the goddess even angrier. Gratefully, she didn't; good, demigods weren't that stupid. Alex breathed in relief, but not for long. Goddess of Deceit? Try something? That didn't sound good, whatever she had in mind. Then her eyes turned black. Talk about creepy. He felt Julia's eyes flick towards him and he gave her a glance as well. Both stood there, not sure what to expect.
His head snapped fully around to the girl as he heard her yelp. What the heck...? Alex's eyes scanned her body, wondering what was wrong; she didn't look hurt anywhere. He glanced at Apate and then back to Julia as a scream vibrated around the alley way; at almost the same time, his head gave a particularly painful throb. Stupid headache... he thought it had gone away. It seemed to him as if this was a double edged sword. He may not of liked the demigod much, but seeing her get tortured was just... gross, inhumane? He wasn't exactly sure; at her pleading words, an involuntary shiver went through his body. Torture sure changed people fast. Then again, it was sort of satisfactory to see her squirm in pain. Alex blinked, starting to feel werided out and torn at the same time. Gods, he was so contradicting himself.OOC: Late, ugh! Sorry! Ah, a day simply wasn’t complete until someone learned that she was not to be messed with. The hard way. The hard way was her favorite way, personally. Apate wasn’t one for coffee really, so she’d gladly skip the Folgers and claim the best part of her waking up was a steaming cup of deception. Fortunately, it was also her forte. Her eyes still gleaming as black as a collapsed star, she watched Julia mentally crumble under the punishment. Oh, sweet cries for mercy. It was like ambrosia to her. And the girl’s tears were like nectar. Pain. And Apate didn’t have to lift a finger. She smirked as the girl pleaded for mercy. Her voice seemed to have lost that I-own-the-world attitude, and it was oh so refreshing.
“What am I doing?” she asked casually, keeping her magic at full tilt. “I told you. It’s my turn to try my magic on you. An eye for an eye dearie.” She let it go a moment longer before her eyes faded back to brown and the magic stopped. Her cold, vile smirk stayed in place though. “You should learn your place. You challenged me, so I’m free to use every ounce of my ability against you in return. That was only the start. Deception isn’t just lies and trickery. It’s mind games. I’ve driven people mad, fueled battles, and even made people believe something so much the only option they saw was suicide. Needless to say they aren’t around to tell you about it now. Your precious Olympians may think they hold seats of great power, but I am a power greater and older than even the Titans. I recommend you think again before inciting my anger.”
She turned to fix her cold stare on Alex. “You know, they say that some people’s lives only serve the purpose to warn others. I hope this girl does that for you. You are wise to keep your counsel should you disagree with me. Perhaps you can teach your little friend here a thing or two, if she has not already learned.” She glanced at Julia. “If she still hasn’t gotten the idea, I would be more than happy to, ah, assist again.” Word Count: 370 Notes: Wow, that even stared me a little... o.o

Julia wasn’t sure what she had been expecting when Apate had said it was her turn, but it definitely wasn’t this. She wasn’t even sure what the goddess was doing, but it definitely hurt. Julia didn’t react well to pain in the first place, but this was something completely different. There weren’t any physical wounds, but Julia felt as though she was being cut all over her body. She looked up at to Alex again, and he seemed to be just as confused as she was about what the goddess was doing. Her eyes flicked to Apate and the look on the goddess’ face only made the pain seem worse. She was enjoying it, and that made Julia feel even sicker than she already did.
Apate’s words broke through Julia’s thoughts, but the pain kept coming. Just when Julia wasn’t sure she would be able to stay on her feet, the pain stopped. Or at least it weakened. Julia was still panting, her mind trying to comprehend what had just happened. She finally started to calm down and listen to what Apate was saying, though she wasn’t sure she wanted to hear what was coming out of the goddess’ mouth. That was just the start of what she could do? Then Julia definitely didn’t want to see the rest of it. Especially not used on her. She bit her tongue when Apate mocked the Olympians again. Julia might not have agreed, but she didn’t think she would be able to say anything without making the goddess angry again and risking another round of what had just happened to her, or worse. It was clear that Apate held quite a bit of power, and Julia didn’t want to be on the wrong side of that ever again.
She was grateful when the goddess decided to turn to Alex. It gave her a moment to figure out what she was going to do now. Hopefully Apate would let her leave without anything else happening, but you never knew with the gods. Mortals and demi-gods were just their playthings, or at least they thought that. Julia looked at Alex, hoping he wouldn’t see the need to attack her as Apate was suggesting. Under normal circumstances she was fairly sure she would be able to Charmspeak him out of it, but with Apate there she wasn’t so confident. Especially when the goddess offered to help him in teaching her a lesson. ”I really don’t think there is any reason for that. I’m pretty sure I learned the lesson there.” It was clear that she was nervous, despite her efforts to keep that out of her voice. She hoped her words wouldn’t offend the goddess in any way. Her eyes moved to Alex and gave him a pleading look, something she never would have imagined in a hundred years.

Did Apate really have to answer back in that creepy voice? Just repeating the rhetorical question? It was plainly obvious what she was doing! She was being a creepy little juvenile delinquent and torturing the daughter of Aphrodite with... something not tangible. It was all a mind game as far as Alex saw it and that was creepy. The most disturbing thing, was that the goddess seemed to be enjoying it. Guess deceit didn't just extend to lying. Knowing that Apate could be deceitful with pain mind games was beyond crazy. Speech mind games were one thing, mind games where the person actually thinks that they're getting tortured was another. Alex was quite sure that his mom had played a few mind games on him now and again, but at least she didn't have any magic like this. The sixteen year old continued to watch Julia, who still seemed like she was in a good deal of pain. There weren't any physical wounds or anything, but the demigod looked like she was getting pretty beat up.
Alex raised an eye brow as she stated a sentence from the Code of Hammurabi. Then again, if she didn't care to read it, she might as well as of been around to have seen it put into effect. "At that rate the entire world would be blind and toothless," Alex remarked, remembering the line from the play The Crucible. He half grimaced as he watched Julia squirm and at the same time, got a painful throb in his head. "Just as a point out," he said through gritted teeth incase Apate decided to take offense. Then her eyes switched back to their normal color and Alex suppressed a shiver. Eye-color changing immortals... not good. Note to self: Run away if eye color changes occur. The mortal just stared at Apate started to spew out the "deceit isn't only trickery it's mind games too!" spiel. So he was right... that had been a mind game. The sickening part was that she sounded happy about it. Glad to know that she had driven people loony through her messed up ways. He really needed to know that. Apate really did seem like she had a lot of power if she was able to persuade people like that. Not that he really wanted to test the extent of it.
He wasn't that happy when Apate decided to turn back to him. Internally rolling his eyes, he just stood there and bit his tongue, forcing himself not to say anything. True, he somewhat disagreed with her, but getting tortured wouldn't help that. "Well, just as another point out... she's not my friend," he risked. He half glared at Julia. Sure, she wasn't his most favorite person in the world or anything, but not to the extent that he'd want to torture her. Besides, what would he do? He didn't have anything except for a weapon that would change into whatever he wanted. That and kung-fu, the end. He wasn't going to start stabbing her, and he was as sure as hades not going to start punching her. That was just... wrong. Julia spoke up and she had an almost desperate look in her eyes. "Ah... I think your teaching methods have been suitable," he responded carefully. His gaze drifted away from Julia and then rested evenly on Apate.OOC: OMGODS!
