Joel was bored and with boredom came the task of finding something to stay amused. It was midday and he chose to skip out on arts and craft time. He wasn’t five years old and didn’t feel like making macaroni art with the rest of the class. Besides, his weapon was here before him stretching out in blue waves. The lake looked calm per usual with only a few campers out in canoes. His lips turned upward in a condescending grin. Canoes. He didn’t need a boat to tread water.
With that thought in mind Joel strutted into the cool water. He remained dry as the water level rose around him in his decent. Stopping at his hips Joel slid his hands into the water and closed his eyes. He loved the feeling of the water; even if he wasn’t wet he could still feel it run over his body. He drew in a breath and ran his hands under the water humming a nonsensical tune in his head. After a minute of just standing there Joel opened his eyes and focused. He felt a small tug in his gut as he raised his hands in front of him. At first nothing happened but after a moment the water began to rise with the motion of Joel’s hands.
Oh yeah. Aqua Man had nothing on Joel. Neither did Percy Jackson. Sure he was a son of the Big Three and clearly stronger by default but Joel would show that guppy up one day. He would be the kid of a sea God that everyone looked to as a hero. With the idea of a shrine built to him one day floating around in his head Joel began to play around with the water sending it high into the air and letting it fall again. He got a pattern down to the point where it started to look like a fountain.
Joel watched his work as if in trance. He was concentrating on making the water do what he wanted. As a minute passed by Joel began to sing out loud setting his water works to music. ‘No Surprise’ by Daughtry popped into Joel’s head. He had heard it about a million times in the music stores he went into during his excursion to Manhattan a few days back. Now it was hopelessly stuck in his melon.
“I’ve practiced this for hours, gone round and round. And now I think that I’ve got it all down. And as I say it louder, I love how it sounds. Cause I’m not taking the easy way out. Not wrappin’ this in ribbons shouldn’t have to give a reason why. It’s no surprise I won’t be here tomorrow…”
Joel continued on through the song even humming the melody when there were no words to sing. The water matched it perfectly in time.

It was time for sword practice again, so naturally Julia had ducked out. She wasn’t about to embarrass herself again by showing everyone just how inept she was with a weapon. She definitely needed the practice and showing up would have been beneficial in the long run, but Julia certainly wasn’t one to think of that. After all there was very little chance of her meeting a monster inside the walls of the camp and she doubted she’d be going off into the “real” world anytime soon, so why bother with learning how to fight? Especially when there were more important things to do. Tanning for instance.
And what better place to tan then out by the lake? The docks offered great exposure to the sun and she could easily slip into a canoe if anyone expected her to look busy; though honestly she had learned that people would generally leave her alone if she looked good enough. One of the perks of being a daughter of the Goddess of love and beauty she supposed. That, and she had noticed that the males of the camp seemed to be entranced when she walked by, often times forgetting what they were doing for a moment. Well, that had happened most of her life so it hadn’t been much of a shock when things were the same here. Only here if she screwed up someone’s love life they had the chance to take out frustrations on her during the messed up version of Capture the Flag that was played.
She shook that thought away as she made her way to the waterfront; her gaze scanning the water and registering that there weren’t too many campers out. Good, maybe she’d get to tan in peace. After laying a towel out on the docks to avoid possible splinters, Julia spread herself out on her back in a position that promised maximum sun exposure. Yes, it was shaping up to be quite a good day.
After a few minutes of solitude and sun Julia began to notice a bit of splashing; writing it off as campers messing around in canoes. But then it started to sound like it had a pattern to it, as if someone had turned on some kind of fountain in the lake. Interested she flipped herself over, resting on her elbows and looking out until she noticed the source of the noise. How was that guy not soaking wet? She thought back to what she knew about Greek mythology and what she had been told about children of various Gods and Goddesses. This certainly wasn’t Percy, the infamous son of Poseidon… So who was he?
His little show with the water was quite amusing, especially when music was added to it. Julia moved until she sat on the dock, her feet dangling over the edge into the water, then called out to him. ”Something a little cheerier would fit the day better.”
Her voice had a playful edge to it, the flirt in her coming out a bit. She kicked her feet around in the water a few times, smirking out at the figure in the water. [/blockquote][/blockquote] Outfit: clickyListening to: Tea Partay... Don't Judge.Name: Julia Porter WC: 514

Joel continued through the song getting about half way through when a voice called out to him. Taking him by surprise Joel turned forgetting about the water in midair. The water from the lake dropped back showering Joel as it went. But seeing as how Joel only got wet when he willed the water to, he remained completely dry. Though the chill of the water sent a shiver down his spine. Joel’s eyes searched to find the culprit behind his broken concentration.
His eyes landed on a single blonde head. She was seated on the dock not too far away, her golden locks with a slight curl and wearing shorts and bikini top. Wow. Was the thought running through Joel’s head. He got over the initial reaction and a scowl formed on his lips. He didn’t like being interrupted like that. The water falling on top of him was embarrassing and Joel didn’t handle embarrassment too well.
“That’s funny, I don’t remember stating that I was taking requests.” He said a little cruelly. Knowing that he was being a jerk Joel waded over to the girl. His face softened, not really caring that he had probably stung her with his words but the important thing was to make her think that he was sorry. “Sorry. Little on edge today. I’m not really one for upbeat songs, besides I think that song is perfectly fine.”
He smiled at her, the water now came up to his chest but still Joel remained dry. He floated for a moment on his back staring up at the sky. He hadn’t had much interaction with campers since arriving. Just that annoying daughter of Hermes. Joel righted himself and went over to the girl. “I didn’t realize this day was special. What kind of song do you suggest then, if you are such an expert?” He thought the girl was pretty, no doubt about that. She looked a few years younger than him and did he mention she was quite pretty? Joel swallowed and held his hand out to the girl. “I’m Joel by the way, son of Triton.”

Julia couldn’t help but smirk as the water fell around the young man, though he didn’t get wet. It seemed a chill spread through him, but it probably was more from the water than from Julia’s voice. After all, she wasn’t her mother; she didn’t have quite the effect that a full-fledged Goddess would. Julia watched him look around for the source of the interruption, her feet continuing to splash around in the water for a moment before his eyes finally landed on her.
She smiled, giving him a little wave. The initial look on his face wasn’t missed; she’d caught a glimpse of it before it was replaced by a scowl. Oh boys… Always trying to hide their feelings. It was definitely one thing Julia had caught onto in her years of flirting. But no doubt she had given a nice little hit to his ego when she broke his concentration. No one liked to look like they were incompetent, especially when there were people around to see.
”Aw.”
She put on a fake pout, watching him as he waded over. But there it went, the softening of the face… He wasn’t really a jerk, she could see that. ”You know, that really hurt. I was just trying to make polite conversation.” The playful edge was back in her voice as she looked him over. The apology made her smile, flashing that award winning smile at the young man as he spoke. ”What is there to be on edge about?” She asked, raising an eyebrow. There it was, he smiled back at her before turning over to float on his back for a moment. It was good to have some time with a guy who wasn’t that creepy mortal she’d met at the property line. Or those sons of Ares who just wanted to impress by beating each other up. Not exactly what Julia wanted to see. Yeah, muscles were good, but not when they thought that Julia would fall for them. No, it didn’t work that way. ”No, nothing too special, it’s just a gorgeous day. And I’m not at sword practice. So I’m just happy.” She smiled again, then furrowed her eyebrows in mock thought. ”Hm… Well I could be cliché and say that I wanted to hear a love song…” She let out a light laugh before accepting his hand with a light handshake of her own. ”Nice to meet you Joel. I’m Julia, daughter of Aphrodite. So I guess the Triton thing explains the whole being in the lake with your clothes on thing.”[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Joel licked his lips and gave a halfhearted shrug. With a smug grin he replied, “I have a better question for you, what isn’t there to be on edge about?” His shoulders shook softly as he snickered at his own cryptic remark. He drew in a deep breath unable to take his eyes of the girl. It didn’t exactly help that she wasn’t wearing much. Joel cleared his throat trying to cleanse his mind of any thoughts that would be considered indecent.
“Guess it is kind of nice out.” He muttered trying to play off his obvious terrible attempt at eye contact. Joel smacked his lips and chortled. “You know Blondie I’d love to see you try and sword fight. I think it’d be adorable.” Joel had of course used this before on Avery. But Avery had turned out to be one blonde whose head wasn’t full of air. This girl in front of him seemed to have one thing on her mind. At the mention of hearing a love song, Joel’s jaw clenched and his eyes dilated. What did she say? Talk about awkward, Joel drew in a steady deep breath and nodded as Joel shook her hand. “I’m not much for love songs.” He managed to get out just before she introduced herself.
This girl was cute but she was just like other daughters of Aphrodite Joel had seen around camp. They all believed the world revolved around them and that anything with legs, a heartbeat, opposable thumbs and a wallet full of money was fair game. Then again they probably didn’t need to have a heartbeat. Joel had already made his mind up about the Aphrodite girl, she was just another self-centered good looking blonde who had no true feelings for anything except what she saw in the mirror every morning. He liked her.
Joel tilted his head back and continued to smirk at Julia, still positive that this was a classic daughter of Aphrodite. “It also explains how I am able to make my own fountain. Call it a gift, I do.” Joel was so high on himself it could be sickening at times. Not to him though, it was just the right amount of ego centricness. It was one reason Joel felt he was attracted to Julia even though his preconceived notions of her had yet to be confirmed. He stared at Julia mischievously. “It is also the reason I stay so dry, while you for example are quite capable of getting wet.” At first Joel didn’t do a thing but after a few seconds he flicked water up at her. “It’s just one of many things that make me better.”

Oh look at that. He was being clever. How adorable. Her lips curled into a smirk as she realized he was staring. She closed her eyes for a second behind the sunglasses, thinking about his little remark. It was kind of true… As demi-gods they would normally have more to be on edge about than the rest of the world. But not here. And that had really been her point. Here they could relax and just enjoy being alive.
”Oh yeah. I’m sure that I’m just adorable while I’m trying to stop some kid of Ares’ from chopping my head off. I like my head just where it is.”
She rolled her eyes, looking back over at Joel. She couldn’t stop the chuckle at his reaction about the love song. ”Well fine. Just a suggestion.” She watched him for a reaction to her parentage… Usually people had caught on before she even told them, but you never knew what sort of assumptions people were going to make, or what thoughts would change when new light was shone on something. ”It’s a very interesting gift then.” She said, letting out a sigh and lowering herself to lay back against the dock with her lets still dangling off the edge. One of her eyebrows had arched in question and she was about to ask him something when he flicked water up at her. It sent a chill down her spine and brought her back into a sitting position. ”Well I guess that one of my gifts would be the fact that I’m smart enough to wear waterproof makeup when I go to the lake.” She smirked at him. ”Among other things. Always looking good… Having that little knack about fashion and accessories.” Julia bent over to look at herself in the water, realizing how narcissistic she must have sounded. ”Don’t get the wrong impression of me. I do more than just tan and look at myself in the mirror all day. I was really big into gymnastics and stuff like that before I came here…” Of course she was into that sort of thing for the boys and the fact it gave her a good body and made sure she was flexible… ”And I’m damn good at it.”[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Joel gave a sideways smirk to Julia. He could just imagine her trying to sword fight and it was a comical prospect. “Aw, they would only chop your head off in a loving vengeful way I’m sure. But I bet you could school them when it comes to the runway. They wouldn’t stand a chance during fashion week. That has to mean something.” He winked. She was coy and very easy on the eyes. Not like many of the other daughters of Aphrodite who seemed to throw themselves at guys more often than not. This chick knew how to play it up a bit, flirt and work the charm. Well Joel had news for her, he had charm of his own and a very deceiving personality. He could get this girl to play right into his hands if he wanted. Question was, did he want to test and see how far he could go?
“You wouldn’t be a daughter of Aphrodite if you didn’t know all those things.” Joel said rolling his eyes. He smiled and nodded at Julia as if sarcastically agreeing with her as she tried to defend her vanity. Joel was being a little harsh on the girl, but she was just further proving she was nothing but a good looking blonde. “Right, gymnastics. Well, I’ll be sure to call you if I ever need a Pink Power Ranger in battle.” He said with a grin floating on his back. Maybe that is what he would call her from now on. It was a long nickname. And that was the point of a nickname after, to be short for something else. He was getting close though to something. This girl was all talk and no bite. Shame.
Joel raised an eyebrow and rolled his head in her direction. Flexible eh? Joel chuckled and righted himself again and swam closer to Julia. He looked her in the eyes and gave a sly smile. “I bet you are.” He said. Without warning Joel reached up and grabbed Julia with every intention of dragging her into the lake with him. “Let’s see how good you are at swimming Princess.”

Julia couldn’t blame him for the smirk she received after her own comments about her abilities with a sword. She had said it, after all. And she was sure that she didn’t look like the type of girl who would be able to hold her own against a child of Ares. ”Oh yes. They’d kill me in the most loving way possible.” She rolled her eyes, giving him a little smirk when he brought up fashion week and the fact she’d be able to out-runway most anybody. Well, it was true. And the idea of a child of Ares trying to walk on a runway was just hilarious.
”Apparently not.”
Those things had always come naturally to her and she had thought it so absurd when other girls were struggling with it. She gave him a look when he referred to her as a Pink Power Ranger, but then went back to smiling at him from behind the sunglasses. ”And I’ll make sure I call you if my fish are ever in trouble. Or maybe if we need to install a fountain in front of our cabin.” She watched him as he swam closer, raising an eyebrow in question and unable to stop the smile from forming again when he agreed with her about being good at the gymnastics type of things. She hadn’t done the best job of defending her vanity, so it was nice for him to agree with her on something that could possibly prove useful in practical application as a Demi-God. ”And honestly it could be good to know how to do some of the things I can.”” Her little rambling had been sufficient to distract her from what Joel was doing, the fact that he had even reached up, until she was on her way into the water. Given the fact she was already dangling her legs over the edge it didn’t take too much. She dropped into the water with a slight splash before she reached up to pull the sunglasses off and place them on the dock. No need to lose those in the lake. She gave Joel a slight push before smirking and flicking a little bit of water at him. Sure it wasn’t going to do anything… ”Oh look. You got me in the water. What now, Waterboy? I'm probably not as good of a swimmer as you are, but you've got that unfair advantage.” She asked, raising her eyebrow again.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Joel smiled at the comment Julia made about calling him if her fish were in trouble. So, blondie had a few jokes up her sleeve. He couldn’t but stare her with a dumb look on his face for a moment. It was those damned powers of Aphrodite making her all cute and good looking. He knew that daughters of Aphrodite could turn heads just by walking by. Joel noticed a few campers watching them from the shore. Well, they were probably watching Julia not him. They didn’t care about the Son of Trtiton. Though in all truth they should. Once Joel had succeeded in Phobos’ wishes in bringing down Jackson, then he would be the top demigod around here. Even that kid of Zeus would be a bottom feeder. Everyone loved a good son of a sea God. Joel cleared his throat and shook his head as his ADD took hold.
“Aqua Man has nothing on me. I’d be more than happy to install a fountain, that way you lot can faun over your tragically good looks in the water. Any shiny reflective surface works right?”
After he pulled her into the water his let out a laugh of triumph. At first he thought he had thoroughly upset the daughter of Aphrodite with the unscheduled swim but she didn’t give off the reaction he was expecting. He expected her to curse him out splash him with water and lift herself out of the water, storming away tossing her soaked hair over her shoulder. Joel had originally wanted to see this reaction. He stopped laughing as she shoved him with a small smirk on her face. What was this? She was tolerating lake water? Joel didn’t know what to do at first; he let out a small scoff at her question and hoped the confused look on his face didn’t show for too long.
“I’m frankly surprised you aren’t making a b line for the dock or shore.” He said with a pleasant grin. Joel was kind of happy she was staying in the water for now. He causally flicked a little bit of water back at Julia, “I underestimated you Daughter of Aphrodite.” He moved closer to her examining her face for any signs of extreme annoyance. There wasn’t much there, but it was a cute face. Joel found himself one day wanting to push hair from that face. Get a grip man! She’s a daughter of Aphrodite. They live to seduce guys, they are like sirens! A voice in his head shouted. Joel swallowed and gave a shrug. “I could teach you how to swim. I mean that way should you fall into lake, or that fountain I’m going to install, after you stare at your reflection for too long.” The words came out in a jumble. He gave Julia a crooked smirk, his eyes squinting ever so slightly.

It seemed her joke hadn’t gone over as horribly as Julia thought it would. It was stupid and corny, but Joel had laughed at it. Probably because she was just her wonderful Daughter of Aphrodite self… But a laugh was still a laugh. Her thoughts were supported as she caught him blankly staring at her for a few moments. She was used to it, she’d admit. It happened a lot when your mother was the Goddess of love and beauty. She had enchanted her fair share of young men by just walking by them; loving it as they lost their train of thought and stared as she made her way by them.
”Of course. Any reflective surface at all.”
She said, a slight hint of resentment in her voice. She didn’t faun over her looks at every reflective surface. Just most of them. “Maybe that’s the real reason I’m horrible at swordfighting. I get too distracted by my reflection in the blade…” The mock astonishment was clear in her voice that time as she rolled her eyes and looked back at Joel. ”Why would I be trying to do that?” She asked, raising an eyebrow. Julia had no problem with water, even though the lake water was pretty disgusting and her outfit was probably ruined… As hard it was, she brushed those thoughts away and looked back at the Son of Triton. ”There isn’t anything bad about a little bit of water. And the company is much better here than on the dock or the shore.” She let out a little noise, somewhere between a squeak and a shout, as he splashed a little more water up at her in retaliation. But he moved closer and she just put on that flirty smirk of hers. ”That’s usually how it works.” She laughed, looking up at him. ”I know how to swim pretty well, I just don’t I’m as good as a Son of Triton. Just like you’d probably have some issues with accessorizing if we compared our wardrobes.” It was cute how his words seemed to all string together, and his smirk brought a smile to her face. ”But if you wanted to give me a few tips I wouldn’t be too upset. The last thing I want is to drown in a fountain. That would just be embarrassing.” [/blockquote][/blockquote] Outfit: clickyListening to: Random, I know. WC: 405

This daughter of Aphrodite had a habit of surprisingly him. She was quickly rearranging any previous notion he had of those dolled up beauties. Joel smiled and let out a small laugh as she joked about the idea of her lack of swordplay skills due to her vanity. He pulled back the smile. Pursing his lips slightly Joel flicked a small amount of water at Julia.
“I don’t know. I guess I assume you Aphrodite girls are like cats and hate water, afraid it might mess with your hair or your perfectly applied make up.” Joel said. What Julia said next made him blush. He forced a laugh and scratched his chin to try and hide his embarrassment. He cleared his throat. “Yeah well, I try.”
He was getting tired of trying to convince himself that Julia wasn’t really interested and that she only flirted with him because it was something Aphrodite kids did. It was getting difficult to tell his real feelings from the ones brought on by her natural beauty. The smartest thing to do in this situation was to just back out and distance himself so he could sort everything out. Julia was just too alluring though. She was cute and clearly wasn’t like your average daughter of Aphrodite. Joel chewed on his tongue and he raised his brow at her, “I’ll have you know that my wardrobe is perfectly accessorized for a nineteen year old son of Triton. And I’m more than certain that our wardrobes would vary only because I’m not one of those guys who gets a kick out of pink.” He laughed.
Joel was surprised and a little let down to hear that she already knew how to swim but all wasn’t lost she asked for a few tips. He swallowed hard and reached out and took Julia’s hand. His eyes fell on their hands slowly traveling up to her face. “Can I really trust that you’re a good swimmer? Or are you saying that so you don’t have to spend much time with me. Either way, I don’t know about any tips beyond don’t drown, wait thirsty minutes after eating before swimming.” He drew in a breath as his heart picked up speed.
“Then again I can show you how I swim. It’s much more impressive than what Jackson can do. My sister used to call me Aqua Man you know. She said I was superhero.” The smile froze on his face as he mentioned his sister. Joel was suddenly reminded of Maggie and the deal he made with Phobos. His eyes stared off into the distance and he held a blank expression on his face for a few moments before blinking and coming out of it. He scoffed and shook his head. He let go of her hand and backed away a little “Sorry.” What was he doing? He was too focused on thus Julia girl. He had to stay on task he couldn’t fail Phobos or risk his sister’s death. Julia could tell she was having some sort of effect on Joel, the way he smiled and laughed at the stupidest of her jokes. The way he was trying to stop himself from smiling and then flicking more water at her. It was adorable.
”Most of my siblings are like that, I guess.” She shrugged her shoulders. ”I just don’t really see what the problem is… I know I look good without the makeup too, it just enhances everything a little bit more. And my hair will dry and look as fantastic as it ever did before. I wont let that stop me from having some fun.”
She’d hit a spot, apparently, making the son of Triton blush a little, but she didn’t act like she noticed as he tried to hide the embarrassment. ”Oh is it now?” She asked, raising an eyebrow. ”So it’s not all board shorts and whatever else someone would assume the son of a sea God wore?” Julia was just teasing him now, as he obviously wasn’t even wearing that. Well, he did have on a Puka shell necklace… That made her smile a bit. ”In all honesty I don’t know why guys don’t wear more pink. It doesn’t even have to be a pink shirt or anything, just a dash of it in an accessory when it works in an outfit…” She shot him another smirk for a moment before he took her hand. ”I mean, I’m a decent swimmer… But I’d like to see what you can do.” One eyebrow rose in an arch, daring him to show her something spectacular. But instead he broke away; something was obviously wrong. ”Is there something wrong? If something is bothering you, you can tell me, Joel.” She moved over to him, concerned. Something about his sister… She used to call him Aqua Man? Something had happened to her, or maybe between Joel and his sister… Sure, Julia and Joel hadn’t known each other very long, not long at all actually, but if there was something she could do to help him then she would. Joel laughed a little bit at how vain and yet sincere Julia sounded. At first her vanity was annoying and expected something Joel knew would come from a daughter of Aphrodite. As their conversation and interaction continued on however, Joel was starting to find it all cute. It was almost endearing which was rather odd. He still tried to convince himself that he was only having a change of heart because she was, in fact, very pretty and her Aphrodite pheromones were affecting his pathetic male mind. There wasn’t another daughter of Aphrodite to make him feel this way though. There was something real about Julia that kept Joel in the water and talking to her.
He rolled his eyes and flashed another sideways smirk. “Well, if you can find me a pink accessory to go with my board shorts then I will find you a seashell necklace to go with your high fashion model apparel. Though, I don’t think that would be a problem. I bet you could pull off anything.” He was flirting now, hardcore.
Joel parted the water in front of him willing it to rise into an orb of floating water. “You’d be surprised with what I can do with water.” He sent the ball of water flying over his shoulder. It rained down over their part of the lake.
His smile dropped completely and though part of him wished he hadn’t let go of Julia’s hands. The sudden thought of Maggie and Phobos had brought him spiraling down to reality. He couldn’t be doing this, getting close to Julia. She would only hate him once she found out what he was really doing here at camp. He was a traitor, a puppet being strung along by Phobos. Then again, Joel had no alliance to anyone here at camp so he couldn’t exactly be counted as a traitor. He cleared his throat and looked back over to Julia. He was silent for a second unsure if he wanted to respond to her question. She was closer to him now.
He stared at her. Joel wondered if he could really trust Julia. The answer of course was a resounding who the hell knows. He had just met this girl but he wanted to trust her. She was one of the only campers to be real friendly to him and Joel had the sneaking suspicion that she wasn’t being fake. Trouble was Joel hadn’t been honest with Julia from the start. How would she react if he replied, “I’m at camp under false pretense. I’m only here to bring down Percy Jackson and recruit others to join Phobos and his cause of bringing Olympus crumbling down at his feet.” Instead of a heavy dose of truth Joel went with a lie.
He quickly formulated a half-truth; “I haven’t seen my sister in a while. I used to be a superhero in her eyes and I don’t even know if she’s okay. Sorry to burden you with my insignificant problems.” OUTFIT:: H E R EMUSIC::TEENAGE DREAMNOTES::actually, i’m not too upset with this post. yay for rising Joel muse! WORD COUNT::501

Julia certainly hoped that it wasn’t just her abilities as a child of Aphrodite that were getting to Joel and making him act the way he was. She felt some sort of connection to him, like there was something more going on. She was sure she would know if it was just because she was a child of Aphrodite, or at least she hoped so. Sure, the children of the love goddess were able to attract members of the opposite gender and had minor abilities with love magic, but Julia just wanted to believe this was something better than that causing the interaction between the two.
”Oh you’re just being a charmer now.” She said, smiling a little at his flirting. It was cute. ”I’ll keep an eye out for the perfect pink accessory for you then. I’m sure I can find something.” She was certain that something would come up when she left camp sometime.
Her eyes widened slightly as he began manipulating water again. It was amazing what the children of different deities could do. Watching Joel form the water into an orb was fascinating; she smiled as drops rained down over them.
She watched him carefully, trying to figure something out from his body language. Any sort of clue that would give an idea as to what had driven him from being so happy to being upset. At first it didn’t seem like he was going to answer her question and Julia was afraid that she had offended him in some way by asking him what was wrong. She knew that some Demi-Gods didn’t like to talk about their pasts and she definitely didn’t want to pry too far into his and drive him away. It felt like he was looking her over, judging her in the same ways she was judging him and trying to figure out if she was someone he could confide in.
”Most people here at camp seem to have some sort of problems in their past… I’m sure your sister is alright. And when you see her again I’m sure she’ll think you’re just as much of a superhero now as you were before.” She offered a reassuring smile before tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. ”You’re not burdening me, and no problem is insignificant if it’s bothering you. You can’t keep emotions bottled up, they’ll just reach a breaking point sometime.”

Joel had no idea what he was doing. He had specific orders from Phobos and right now he was just hanging around with this daughter of Aphrodite. He wasn’t even sure if Julia was a friend with Percy or not. It felt nice to be around her though and for a little while he forgot all about what Phobos was holding over him. But that also made him feel ten times worse, that Joel could so easily forget his sister. Julia was so kind to him, and turned out to be nothing like he had imagined.
Julia surprised Joel in a good way. She was kind to him, and here he was lying to her from the get go. He wasn’t a friend of camp; he was working with the big bad to take it all down. Not that Joel exactly wanted to bring Olympus and camp tumbling. He just didn’t want his sister to die. Well, Joel also wasn’t a fan of Percy Jackson. He could have cared less what happened to that piece of sushi.
Joel forced a smile to appear. He reached out and took Julia’s hands. For a moment he almost forgot they were in the lake. He chuckled slightly trying not to let Julia’s words affect him too much. He kept quiet for a moment and stared at her. “I seriously doubt that she’ll think of me as a superhero anymore. But thanks Princess. For a daughter of Aphrodite you sure are kind of smart.”
This was stupid. Joel was stronger than this. He had spent his entire life building up an emotional wall blocking others out. Words didn’t affect him. But this girl could see right through him, she found a way over that wall. Joel’s instincts were telling him to get out of here and break away. He didn’t move away though he just moved in closer.
“You’re right. But I’ve been doing it all my life so there is no reason for these emotions to just make like fireworks on the fourth of July.” Joel scoffed a little and leaned forward until his lips were touching hers. After a few moments he pulled away with a look of confusion on his face. Had he really just kissed her? Joel cleared his throat; “I’m blaming this on your demigod Aphrodite powers by the way. I don’t normally go around kissing girls like that. Even if I do happen to be a great kisser.” Joel only hoped that he wasn’t flushing red at all. That would have been embarrassing. He made a mistake in kissing Julia. He was certain that Phobos had seen that. It now meant that Phobos could hold something else over him.
