Something wasn’t quite right. You didn’t have to be too good with emotions to know that. She could tell that there was something bothering Joel… It almost seemed like he didn’t want to be there anymore, like he was doing something wrong just by hanging around Julia. She racked her mind, trying to remember if there was some sort of dispute between Triton and Aphrodite that meant they couldn’t be friends but she came up blank. There was nothing in ancient history, at least not that Julia could remember, that would have left some bad blood between Aphrodite and Triton. So what was making Joel hesitate?
He smiled, but Julia couldn’t help but feel there was something behind it. Like he was shoving down his other feelings and forcing out a smile to reassure her. She didn’t quite like it. But then he took her hands. She smiled, hers genuine, as a slight giddiness rose up inside of her, almost like butterflies in her stomach. It definitely threw her off. Children of Aphrodite didn’t get smitten by anyone else. They were the ones causing other people to fall in love with them. Julia had gotten used to not falling for someone, instead letting them fall for her and then twisting their hearts around her finger; she’d been quite the heartbreaker in the past. But now? She almost laughed at the fact that in such a short time the son of Triton could’ve gotten to her. Thanks, mom. She thought, smirking a bit.
”I’m sure she will. You’re her brother. Things like that don’t change just because you went away.”
She rolled her eyes when he said she was smart for a daughter of Aphrodite. What? Did knowledge about love and accessories mean they couldn’t be knowledgeable about other things? ”We’re really smarter than most people on camp think. Sure, we’re no children of Athena, but contrary to popular belief there is a brain under this hair. Again he seemed ready to pull away and bolt, but Julia certainly hoped he wasn’t going to do that. And instead of running he moved in closer to her. He gave some excuse as to why he was bottling up his emotions, that he’d done it all of his life and there was no use changing now, and Julia was about to open her mouth to reply, to tell him that things could change; when he started to lean in towards her. Their lips met, and Julia closed her eyes and leaned into him until he pulled away, though she wished that the kiss could have lasted longer. ”Right. The only reason you would want to kiss me is because I’m a daughter of Aphrodite and I’m using my abilities to seduce you. And if I am then surely I can sneak another kiss out of you.” She smirked for a moment before pushing herself onto her tip-toes to plant another kiss on his lips, pulling away after a few moments. ”And I don’t normally go around kissing whatever boy I meet in a lake. Only if he’s a great kisser.”[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Joel couldn’t believe that he had just kissed Julia. It wasn’t like it didn’t feel good. It was nice actually. Okay, so maybe it was more than nice. He felt a little foolish though after the initial act. A part of him wanted to run away like a scared fifth grader and go hide in his cabin. No girl had made him feel that way before. This daughter of Aphrodite sure was stronger than the others he had met. Joel was still trying to blame her inherited Aphrodite love magic junk. He was refusing to believe that she could actually have a hold of his heart in such a short amount of time.
Joel heaved a sigh and a crooked smile stretched his face, “Well yeah if we’re on the same pag-” He stopped and for a second a brief look of utter confusion clouded his eyes. “Wait, what sneak another—“ And she really meant it. Joel found himself pressed against Julia’s lips again. His eyes remained open while he got over the shock. Joel closed his eyes and reached up to put his hands on Julia’s face but she pulled away. He let his hands quickly fall. Joel stood there completely frazzled by what had just occurred. He expected her to slap him after the first kiss, not a second kiss brought on by Julia.
A moment later Joel realized that his shorts were wet. His eyes grew wide. He sure hoped that was water. Then he felt his sock become wet. Joel slowly glanced down. He was so excited and taken about by the returned kiss that for a split second he didn’t bother to worry about not getting wet in the lake. He cleared his throat and tilted his head back to Julia. He stood there feeling awkward. What was he supposed to say? What was Julia expecting him to say? Joel knew it wouldn’t be something witty because his mind had completely flat lined after the second kiss.
“Good, this is a one time thing then.” Joel took a deep breath and held it for a second. He had to think for a moment about the last thing Julia said. She said she didn’t normally kiss guys in the lake, unless they were great kissers. Did that make Joel a great kisser? He had never thought about it before nor had anyone really told him. His past girlfriends, well girlfriend never said anything. But she was kind of a stuck up snob anyway. But Joel had plenty experience in kissing. That was high school; everyone kissed everyone in high school. If you were at any party where an empty bottle, or vacant closet was readily available you were kissing somebody. For some reason though a kiss had never felt like this one. His first kiss didn’t even compare to kissing Julia.
Joel smirked and tried his best not to flush red. He rolled his eyes and held his head high regaining his arrogant air. “Well, yeah of course I am. I’m a natural when it comes to these things. I’m just better than others in that respect.” He cleared his throat and laid back in the water. There he went again, throwing his ego around and that holy than thou attitude to keep others from seeing his true emotions. What was she doing? Julia had always been so careful with her own heart, stringing along boys but never getting too invested herself. One or two heartbreaks had been enough to show her that she could just invest in the lust aspect of her heritage, not count on the love aspect. Or at least that was what she told herself while trying to hide away the hopeless romantic that lurked beneath the surface. Maybe that was what she was worried about. Falling for Joel and then having something about him break her heart. Crying was just unattractive.
Apparently she caught him off track with a second kiss. What had he been expecting? A slap? For her to run back to her cabin like a giddy five year old just because a boy had kissed her? Well, to tell the truth, she felt like doing just that. Like gathering up any notebooks she had and writing Mrs. Joel Harbor all over them. She calmed herself down a little, trying to get her heart to beat normally instead of feeling like it was about to beat right out of her chest. She watched his hands fall and wished she had kept her face there for a few more moments. It just felt good to be around him, like there wasn’t anything other than the two of them standing in the lake.
She raised an eyebrow in question when his eyes got wide, chuckling slightly. The smirk faltered when he said this was a one time thing; she certainly didn’t want it to only be a one time thing. ”I also only kiss a boy on dry land if he’s a great kisser.”
She hinted, hoping he wouldn’t be dazed enough to miss the subtle suggestion in her comment. Well that wasn’t completely true. She’d kissed quite a few guys who seriously needed to figure out how to kiss; but she wasn’t about to tell Joel that. But not even her best kiss had felt anywhere near as good as what Julia felt when she and Joel connected. She looked around them for a moment, trying to find Eros with his bow and arrows, before turning her attention back to Joel. ”Oh don’t get too arrogant. It doesn’t suit you. Remember I’m just seducing you, right? You don’t need to impress me.” She smirked, sarcasm dripping in her statements. But he didn’t have to impress her; she was already head over heels for him. She let herself float on her back, maneuvering herself over so she was floating next to Joel before intertwining the fingers of one hand with his and waiting to see how he reacted. Joel had to get his priorities in line. The only reason he came to this place was because Phobos told him to. He was set with the task of bringing Percy Jackson down and the Camp down from within. So far he had managed very little he hadn’t even met with Percy to try and manipulate and getting his head like Phobos wanted him to. It was a disaster. Joel knew that Maggie’s life was depending on his actions. The slightest thing to upset Phobos could cause him to kill her. Phobos knew his greatest fear, losing Maggie. Joel couldn’t let that happen. It wasn’t like Joel liked or fully agreed with Phobos he had no choice than to join up with the freak.
With all of that pressure resting on his shoulders Joel was still standing here in the water with Julia. He had met with dozens of girls in the past and a few others here at camp. None of them had ever captured Joel’s attention or heart like Julia had. Joel didn’t want to admit that he was actually feeling something for this daughter of Aphrodite. She was messing with his mind and heart and getting him to drop his guard, something he never did before unless he was around Maggie. Joel had become so numb to people and the things they said over the years, and was a pro when it came to mustering up feelings that were never there in the first place. But over the last hour or so he had spent with Julia she managed to erase all of that. How was it possible?
Joel forced a small laugh and a smile to accompany it. “I knew you’ve kissed a lot of boys. I’m not so surprised Princess. You’re quite attractive by many guy standards. Its just an occupational hazard for you Aphrodite kids.” He flicked a tiny amount of water at Julia. Even though Joel wanted to leave and try to forget this ever happened, he could not pull himself away from Julia. Phobos was going to be pissed. Joel cringed at the idea that he may do something to hurt Julia in order to spite Joel.
He rolled his eyes dramatically at her statement about him being too arrogant. Joel had always known he could be arrogant at times, and that his ego was larger than it should have been. He never minded though. It was how he got by. Joel was viewed as a superhero to some people, he had saved others before and yeah sure, it went to his head. Joel had a weird sense of righteousness and would do anything to protect those he loved or others. It was messed up that he was with Phobos, and Joel knew Julia would not understand in the slightest. Joel was doing this for the betterment of mankind, sort of. He had to believe that Phobos ruling Olympus would be better because otherwise it would be impossible to live with what he was doing.
The feeling of Julia’s hands slipping into his made Joel smile automatically. He stared into her eyes. In that moment Joel thought, to Hades with Phobos. Joel wouldn’t give up this feeling that was inside of him as he waded in the water next to Julia. “You’re right, this is all your fault Princess. You and your pretty words have me completely under your spell.” Joel leaned over and kissed Julia once more. Joel was stuck and utterly infatuated with Julia daughter of Aphrodite. There was no way of getting out of this now, he was in too deep and the rush he got from just looking at Julia was too addicting to try and send her away. Joel would just have to keep this hidden from Phobos and Phobos hidden from Julia. If either of them knew the truth Joel was certain it would sign Maggie’s death certificate.

Despite the euphoria she was feeling, Julia couldn’t help but sense that Joel was still holding something back. Like he was hesitant to be around her, to completely open up to her and say what he was feeling. But, in all honesty, how could she expect him to? They had only known each other for how long? It was understandable that he wasn’t going to tell her everything that was going on in his mind. Funny though that they could feel the connection of love that existed between the two of them. She was happy with that for now, content with the idea that she would get to learn more about him when they spent more time together. At least she hoped they would be spending more time together. A lot more time.
”Do you really think that about me?”
She asked, pouting slightly. It put her off a little for him to assume that she had kissed a lot of boys. It might have been true, but that didn’t mean he needed to assume it right away. And none of the boys she had kissed had made her feel anywhere near as good as when she’d kissed Joel. The pout was replaced by a slight blush, just the slightest, when he said that she was quite attractive. Again, she’d had many guys say that to her over the years; but when Joel said it the words sounded different to her. ”An occupational hazard… Right. Well I can think of so many worse hazards than being ridiculously good looking.” She chuckled, studying his face for a few moments before he flicked a little bit of water at her again. A smile flashed across her face and she splashed him back, letting out another laugh as she did so. She really didn’t mind the fact he was arrogant, it seemed to fit his personality to have a slightly inflated ego. But she’d fed that ego plenty already, she didn’t see why playing it a bit cooler would have any sort of adverse effect on their feelings. Plus, with some of the things he could do she saw where a bit of smugness fit in. When he smiled and stared into her eyes all thoughts of his arrogance melted away, replaced again by that euphoria of love. There was a part of her that said she shouldn’t be the one falling head over heels for him, that she should be toying with his heart and then leaving him to think about it for a while before getting back to him… But she wasn’t sure if she could do that. ”Oh, and only my words are pretty?” She asked, her pout completely fake and theatrical this time, but it too was abruptly forgotten as Joel leaned over and kissed her again. If she didn’t know they were in the lake she would have sworn she heard bells ringing in the background, an auditory manifestation of the happiness she was feeling around Joel. She didn’t pull away, instead wrapping her arms around his neck; wishing that they could stay in the lake forever. If it weren’t for stupid things like oxygen she never would have pulled away. But she had to after a few moments, though she kept her arms around his neck, just happy with being in contact. ”Thank the gods.” She muttered, barely above a whisper. Joel was still unaware of how this happened so fast. It made his head spin just thinking about it. He had encountered plenty of other girls who were equally as pretty. Okay, so maybe not equally, Julia had all of the others beat by a mile. At first he blamed it on Julia’s abilities as a daughter of Aphrodite, but again Joel had seen the other daughters of Aphrodite around camp and he didn’t fall head over heels for them after one conversation. And while logic told Joel to question it, his heart was yelling at him to let it go.
She broke through his walls so easily and Joel found himself actually being who he really was around her. There were no secrets. That was a huge lie; there were secrets that would remain secrets for very good reasons. For once he didn’t feel like he needed to manipulate someone to do what he wanted. Julia was something special and there was only one explanation that Joel’s mind kept going back to over the last five minutes. It was cheesy and cliché and at first he kind of hated himself for even thinking of the notion in relation to him. That four-letter word that plagued demigods and lovers across time, and a word that Joel didn’t believe in until now. Fate.
He smiled at Julia as she splashed him back. He flinched automatically even though the water would just run off of him. Joel scoffed and rolled his eyes in her direction. “Well, maybe it’s not just the words. It could also have to do with the lips they are coming out of, and then the face the lips are connected to and—well you get the idea.”
When Julia slipped her arms around his neck Joel felt as if the entire world melted away. He wanted nothing more than to just remain in the lake with Julia for the remainder of his life however long or short it may be. If Phobos were to discover their relationship it was bound to be short. Oh Gods, Phobos. Joel was supposed to get rid of Percy by any means. He was trusted to help crumble Camp Half-Blood from within. How was he going to explain that to Julia, if at all? Joel’s smile wavered for a moment as she muttered thanks to the Gods.
“Let’s not bring the Gods into this.” He said in a low voice almost bitter. Joel pushed Julia’s hair out of her face. “How did this happen so fast? I mean, don’t get me wrong I like what we have whatever this is. But, I mean is this more than just infatuation, not that I am looking for like an in depth relationship or marriage down the line but i mean—“ Joel started to stumble over his words at the end as his nerves started to grow. He took a deep breath and started again. “This thing we have, are we official? Is this a one swim stand, or are we going to continue with this, whatever this is.”
He knew he sounded like a complete idiot but he didn’t want to be a complete idiot who had feelings for a girl who only liked him as a kissing partner, a so called friend with benefits. Joel wasn’t sure he wanted to be that. He was pretty certain that he wanted to be a little more than that. Maybe she would come to understand the situation with Phobos, who knows maybe she would be on his side and help him with possible destruction of the camp. Maybe, it was a stretch but maybe he could convince her. It seemed like wishful thinking.

Julia’s mind was still racing, still trying to figure all of this out. Her heart, of course, knew exactly what was happening. She was a child of love after all. She was falling, or rather had fallen, head over heels for the son of Triton. She had always been a believer in love at first sight, after all that was how her father had explained his fling with Aphrodite. But to tell the truth she had never expected it to happen to her. She had grown so used to stringing boys along and then finding a new one when she got bored with them. But Joel was different; she couldn’t even imagine dumping him like she had numerous other boys in her past. Maybe it was time for her to start calming down, time to start trying out the monogamous lifestyle for at least the time being.
But there was still the issue of feeling like Joel was hiding something from her. What could he have to hide? Was there something he was ashamed about that he didn’t want her to find out about? Julia was pretty sure she wouldn’t care if he said he was anything short of being a murderer at this point. Even then she’d probably find some way to excuse it, her heart was winning out over her head in a major way with this demi-god.
”That’s good. It would be a shame if my words were the only thing you liked.”
She joked, rolling her eyes right on back at him. She had to admit though, she missed having a guy treat her this way. It seemed like forever since she’d been back at the boarding school… And she hadn’t really tried with any of the other boys at Camp Half Blood. Sure, the boys she’d gotten to help her move in had been nice enough, but with Joel it seemed more sincere than if it were just her powers as a child of Aphrodite messing with his emotions and feelings. She caught the small falter in his smile, as well as the bitterness in his voice when she brought up the gods, but she didn’t push the issue. There were plenty of demi-gods who had a grudge against the gods, their parent specifically. She smiled when he fumbled over his words, she tended to have that effect but when he did stumbled over them it was just more adorable. ”I have no idea. Do you believe in love at first sight? And I’m not talking about because Eros decided it would be funny to take a shot at us.” She paused for a moment to think after he asked if they were official. Well she certainly wanted them to be official. Did he? ”I don’t want to leave it at a one swim thing.” She said, smiling up at him. ”I think we’re a little young for marriage, but I don’t see a problem with dating. I mean, I like you…” And you like me. She wasn’t going to voice that, even though she could see it in the way he acted. And she certainly more than liked him, but she thought he would probably be a little put off if she came straight out and told him she loved him, even if it was true. He was perfect in her eyes, which made the two of them together a great fit. Julia couldn’t help but feel like a little kid again, tentatively testing the waters and hoping that he felt the same way, that he wanted to take this farther than just this one time in the lake. And hopefully farther than just being friends with benefits.[/blockquote][/blockquote] Music: Halo/Walking On Sunshine

Joel could feel his heart racing at a millions miles a second. He couldn’t be happier standing here in the water with Julia. Oh gods he was still here in the lake. Joel had almost forgotten their surroundings; Julia must have had all shriveled and pruned fingers. He took her hands and looked at them. It would adorable if there was even the slightest imperfection about her. Of course Joel figured she would probably freak. It would only make her more appealing to Joel. He was already hooked on her presence; there wasn’t anything that could ruin it.
Well there was once thing that could ruin this entire situation and for the hundredth time Joel’s mind shifted to Phobos. Joel wanted so much to tell Julia his secret but he couldn’t do it. He didn’t need Phobos holding Julia over his head as well as his sister. Besides there was nothing Julia could do about the deal he made with Phobos. Joel didn’t exactly want to get out of it either. He wanted to see Percy Jackson come tumbling down to size just as much as Phobos did. His hatred for Percy stemmed from his father and there was no questioning it.
Anyway, Joel seriously hoped that Julia wasn’t just playing with his emotions. He waited for her response to his bumbling questions. He sounded like a moron but Joel tried not to think about the negative, as hard as it was at the moment. And when she brought up the subject of love at first sight, Joel immediately turned pink. “Did you just apply the term love to what I think is the start of this relationship?” He chuckled a little.
He flushed a deeper shade of red, marriage? Joel wasn’t even close to thinking about marriage and even the word coming from Julia’s mouth made him feel slightly embarrassed. He scratched his head and tried to play off the awkwardness. Joel ignored the small echoing voice of Phobos in the back of his mind and kissed Julia again when she said she liked him. Feeling almost like a seventh grader with a crush Joel smirked at her. “I’d be lying if I said I didn’t like you too. Besides, how could you now like me? I’m a son of Triton.”
Joel manipulated the water and created a swirling wall of water and brought it overtop of them. The water enclosed them but gave them air. Only a few drops of water fell onto them. The sun shone through the water causing rainbows to sparkle around them. “So I guess I can call you my girlfriend now, and you can call me the most awesomest boyfriend ever to live.” Joel winked at Julia. He couldn’t fully express how much he wanted to stay permanently right here. OUTFIT:: H E R EMUSIC::DREAM WORTH KEEPINGNOTES::I could see this song playing in the background in my head. Julia hadn’t even thought about her hands, or how long they had been in the lake, until Joel looked at them. Oh gods. Her fingers were probably so pruned… Ew. She stole a quick glance at her hands and found that to be the case and let out a small groan. ”I’m sorry about that… My hands are really gross from being in the water so long.”
Though to tell the truth her fingers probably weren’t even that bad. But she didn’t want to show Joel any imperfection she might have, despite the fact she knew she was a daughter of Aphrodite and had probably hooked him already. She was all smiles once more when Joel turned pink. ”Maybe I did.” She said, smirking at him. Of course she had used that word. She was fairly sure that love was the right way to describe this. No, she wasn’t fairly sure. She was positive that this was love. At least she was able to keep her cool outwardly even if her heart felt like it was going to beat right out of her chest. But it was adorable when Joel’s face flushed at her words. ”I said we were a little young for a marriage, Joel. Don’t worry.” She smirked again, barely feeling the awkwardness of the situation. And then he kissed her again. She had to admit she wished the kiss would have lasted longer, but her smile was still a bit wider when he pulled away. ”Well that’s true.” She said, though she didn’t know too much about Triton, other than the fact he was Poseidon’s son and heir… But even if he wasn’t a son of Triton, Julia was sure she would have fallen for him. Julia tensed slightly when the water around them began to move and swirl around them, but calmed down when she reminded herself that Joel was in full control of it and wasn’t going to try and drown her. Her eyes scanned the enclosure, taking in the rainbows and the sun before falling back on Joel. ”This is beautiful.” And that wasn’t a term she used lightly. Beauty meant a lot to her. ”Everything in here is.” Everything and everyone. ”If you don’t mind I might try to find a different way of phrasing that… But I do agree with the statement.” His arrogance was actually starting to grow more on her, at least he knew he was arrogant. ”So do you think they would notice if we just didn’t show up for dinner?” She asked, raising an eyebrow at him. It was getting close to that time, but she definitely didn’t want to leave. Not to mention the fact that her siblings would know right away that she was in love.[/blockquote][/blockquote] Music: Everybody
