Rocky's bed in the Demeter cabin had a few different articles of clothing scattered on it. You would think picking something to wear wasn't a life or death decision. Probably the only one who took more time picking an outfit than he was right now was a child of Aphrodite. At this rate he might end up beating out even them. Why did he worry so much about what to wear right now? He was going to meet Jackson on the beach, he didn't want to be late.
He flopped backward on the bed - on top of the mess of clothes - and looked toward the window near it. On the sill sat a potted lily, the flower he'd grown during his run-in with Jackson at the lake. He looked at that and remembered how he was like that flower. True, he still frequently saw that as meaning he was insignificant and impermanent. But in that flower he also saw how Jackson said he'd seen him. He was beautiful, and someone cared about him. Rocky had never been one to care about plants or any connection to his mother. Call it crazy, but he kind of obsessed over that flower ever since the day he'd made it sprout. He cared about it, and Jackson cared about him. More importantly, Jackson wouldn't care what he was wearing. He would think Rocky looked perfect no matter what he wore, and despite not really getting why he cared... well, it had been Jackson's opinion he'd been worried about.
With that new knowledge in his mind, he went back to looking at the clothing on the bed in front of him. He hadn't wanted to wear his caution-orange camp shirt, just because he'd wanted this to feel like something more than an every-day moment.
Moments later he'd cleaned off his bed and was exiting the cabin - dressed in a swimsuit, sandals, and a open buttoned shirt - with a small smile on his face that he couldn't hide. It didn't fit with the demeanor that the rest of the camp saw, but maybe that wasn't such a bad thing.
It was a free time in Rocky's schedule this time, he wasn't skipping classes like when they'd met. The weather seemed nice, and everything was going to go well. At least that's what he hoped as he made his way from the horseshoe of cabins down to the beach. Maybe that really depended on the gods.... So, despite being one who'd never given much of a damn about the gods before, he said a prayer to all of them and covered his bases. Today would go well... so help him gods.

Jackson looked at outfits he had laid out on his bed, he wasn't sure what he was going to wear but he knew for sure his orange camp shirt was out. He wore that thing almost every day and today wasn't like any other day, today was the day he was going to hang with Rocky at the beach. Jackson almost freaked out when Rocky suggested the beach for their date, mainly because when ever Jackson went to sleep the beach was normally the place he dreamed out and wanted to share it with someone and today was that day. He would be sharing it with the most perfect guy he knew.
Rocky still hadn't made a decision and it made Jackson a little sad, but he promised himself to stick by Rocky no matter what and he was following through with that promise. They talked everyday and Jackson couldn't help but smile whenever he saw him, his body no longer shook being around Rocky, instead butterflies took over. There were so many times he wanted to kiss Rocky, but made himself stop. Rocky wasn't ready for that, holding each other and hands were as far as they had gone and Jackson would have to be ok with that if it was all they ever did.
Jackson slipped on his board shorts and flip flops, he really didn't need a shirt on today. It was warm outside and he would just take it off once he got to the beach. Jackson looked at himself in the mirror, a smile was locked on his face. Jackson though that he looked goofy. Is this how he looked when he was in front of Rocky? Rocky never said anything about Jackson's looks, he wasn't even sure if Rocky though he was cute or whatever. Jackson turned away from the mirror and exited the door of his cabin, he waved at some random camper, one of his siblings he thought. Jackson's brain wasn't focusing on anything but seeing Rocky, this meeting was Rocky's idea. Could this be the day Jackson had been waiting for, the day when Rocky would finally tell him how he felt. Jackson smiled thinking about that,he was longing to be Rocky's boyfriend. He knew he loved Rocky, he felt it when ever he looked at the boy. He didn't care that Rocky would technically be 65, he was 16, beautiful. Jackson reached the beach and saw a familiar blonde head, this was it. Who knows what this day would hold, but by Apollo, it would be perfect.

He stood on the beach alone for a moment, watching the waves and feeling the light wind blow through his hair. He was excited, but also nervous. He thought he knew the answer to the question Jackson had been waiting for Rocky to answer since they'd first met. He was nervous, from the standpoint of not wanting to mess it up. He knew it would never be perfect, but... it needed to be as close as possible, if that was at all possible. Maybe it wasn't possible for it to be exactly perfect, but... he'd try his hardest to get the moment right.
Eventually he turned, on some gut instinct, to see Jackson coming towards him on the beach. He smiled a little as he watched Jackson approach, his blonde hair being slightly tousled by the light breeze. The scene felt kind of like it was out of a cheesy picture show. This was the moment where the female lead would run into the arms of the male lead. They'd hug and/or kiss, and it would be a happy ending. Only no female lover would be going running into Jackson's arms, and Rocky wasn't the sort for that kind of seemingly fake, public display of affection.
Instead he slowly started forward to meet Jackson halfway between where Rocky had stood and where Jackson had been when Rocky had turned. Rocky was still smiling, a small smile that almost no one else ever saw. Then again, Jackson was kind of one of a kind in getting Rocky to open up to him. Though... Jackson was one of a kind in a lot of things. He was the only one who'd been able to talk Rocky into attending his lessons. Many at camp were trying to figure exactly what influence Jackson had over Rocky, though no one seemed what they saw as a positive influence on a demi-god who had been something of a problem camper for a while.
He slipped his arms around Jackson, pulling him toward him in a hug. No words were spoken. Rocky was a very quiet individual. He didn't speak more than he absolutely had to. That didn't say his actions didn't speak loudly enough for words to be unnecessary. He was happy to see Jackson, and that was pretty clear. Another thing Rocky didn't do much was let things slip out, but clearly there was a first for everything. "I love you."

Jackson watched as Rocky walked towards him, Jackson smiled seeing the boy he truly cared about smiling at seeming very happy to see him. Jackson was getting ready to pull Rocky into a hug, but Rocky made the first move, which surprised Jackson but he loved being surprised. Jackson wrapped his arms around the small of Rocky's back ,Jackson even smelled Rocky's scent, he loved the way he smelled like the outdoor and flowers. Jackson was so happy in this moment right now, but then it happened. Something Jackson didn't expect at all and he wasn't sure it was happening right now.
"I love you"
Had Rocky actually just said those three words, was this truly happening right now? No, this had to be a dream. Jackson was still asleep in his bed, not woken up to even go on this date yet. Jackson pulled Rocky closer, this felt real. This really happening, Rocky had made the first move, he had pulled Jackson into the hug, and he had said those words that he had longing to hear from him.
"Please let this be real" Jackson whispered not to Rocky, but just to hear him say the words. Jackson held on to Rocky tight, he wasn't letting go. This was the perfect day of his life, has the Fates or even Apollo made it this way?
"I love you too, Rocky. So much, you have no idea how much this means to me right now." said Jackson, tears started falling from his eyes. He didn't want Rocky to think he was sad, he was more than happy right now. This was perfect, Rocky was perfect. Was Rocky all his now? Where the together as a couple? Jackson knew the only way to find out what to just come right out and ask it.
"Rocky, are we? I mean do you want to be, I guess what I am trying to ask is. Will you be my boyfriend?" asked Jackson he didn't move away from Rocky, he was scared if he looked at Rocky right now he would A)faint from happiness, B)give Rocky the wrong impression of the crying or C) kiss Rocky. He had been longing to do the last one for so long, could this be the day? Jackson waited for Rocky's answer hoping that it was the one he wanted to hear. He loved Rocky more than anything, he wanted more than anything to have Rocky as his partner.

The words had just slipped out. Rocky had meant to tell Jackson that at some point during this meeting, this date of sorts, but he hadn't planned for it to be so soon. His plans were out the window, though, and he'd panicked inside, his heart racing as he waited to find out how Jackson would react to the words. He worried he'd messed this up, and Jackson didn't react for the longest time.
Finally he pulled Rocky closer, and he could just hear Jackson whispering. "Please let this be real." As he heard this Rocky let out a breath he hadn't even realized he'd been holding. Maybe Jackson thinking that he was dreaming wasn't exactly the reaction he'd hope for. This was too good to be true, or that was how Jackson saw it. That was good. It had to be good. Because if he thought he was dreaming, then didn't it mean he wanted this? He had told Rocky he thought he'd loved him. He'd been waiting for Rocky to answer. He hadn't changed his mind... not that Rocky had even considered that possibility.
It was another moment before there was a definite reaction. When Jackson did speak, Rocky just held onto him. He listened to the words, and by the end of what Jackson said he was face with another question. And yet, this question was easier to answer than the first one had been. Or rather this answer should be easier to answer considering what the answer to the first one had been. There was no doubt in Rocky's mind about his answer, just a realization that as soon as he answered it would be as close to official as something like this could ever get at camp. The would be going steady... or that was the terminology he was used to. Please, gods, let that wording be ok with Jackson. The prayer was that they would let him understand what Rocky meant. Let what was in essence a generation gap not get in the way of their relationship. Rocky was so nervous that he knew he'd resort to the old fashioned terminology.
"Jackson..." He still wasn't facing Jackson, so he pulled back so that he could see Jackson's face. Gently wiping the tears away from Jackson's face, just as he had that day at the lake, Rocky smiled his small smile. "Yes. I want to... to go steady with you." He closed his eyes, looking like he wanted to smack himself on the forehead. "I mean... you know what I meant, right?"

Jackson let Rocky wiped his tears away, Jackson smiled as Rocky looked right into his eyes and said those words, those words that he had been longing to hear the day they first met at the lake, this was real. This was amazing, this date was perfect.
"I am very happy right now, Rocky. I want to be with you and go steady with you. For some reason it means something more special that you said steady. All my life, I have wanted someone in my life to make me smile, to make me happy, to make me lie awake in bed at night and think how much I missed them. said Jackson as he began to smile even bigger, Rocky was his dream come true everything about him was perfect. His hair, those gorgeous eyes, his smile, his body, and just everything. Jackson brushed Rocky's hair out of his face and smile at his boyfriend, that word sounded perfect.
"This is becoming the best day of my entire life. I thought this was all a dream all day, until I held you close. Feeling your body against me, just smelling you. i find myself missing you when you aren't with me and I can't wait to see you again. I even paused Jackson did he really want to say this next part, would Rocky find it sweet and romantic or creepy and weird?
"Some nights, I sleep with the camp shirt you gave me. I hold it close wishing that you were in the bed with me holding me and making me feel safe like I always do when I am in your arms. I can't even explain to you right now how happy I am said Jackson, he blushed bright red. He truly hoped that this wouldn't scare Rocky off, the boy who was no his boyfriend. Jackson put his hand on Rocky's chest, he touched his naked skin and felt Rocky's heart beating. Something about this contact made Jackson breathe weirdly, he was so happy right now. Jackson looked into Rocky's eyes, the only thing that would make this day more perfect was if Rocky took the first move and kissed him right now. Jackson even licked his lips gently. Would Rocky take the hint and kiss him, or would he not get the hint that Jackson wanted a kiss more than anything.

Rocky wasn't sure how to feel at first hearing some of the things Jackson told him. All of this was new to him, something he'd admitted to Jackson that day they'd met at the lake. He'd never been in a relationship with anyone before. He didn't know what he was doing. He didn't know what was normal and wasn't. In some respects it scared him to think that Jackson thought about him so much - from the sound of it, almost all the time that they were apart. Then again, he didn't know if that was maybe normal, and he knew that he thought about Jackson a lot when they were apart. It was what had finally clued him in to how he really felt.
He looked into Jackson's eyes as Jackson place his hand against Rocky's chest. He saw the subtle hint and knew what it meant. However, he hesitated just a moment in acting. He had to say something. It was something important, and yet... something in him told him that it could wait. He didn't want to miss his chance for this. He was afraid that what he needed to say would ruin this moment.
He kissed Jackson, but as soon as the kiss was over he spoke, his face still close to Jackson's. "I've never... never been in a relationship." That might have been kind of obvious from earlier statements, but he felt it was necessary to make that clear. "If I ever seem hesitant... It's not your fault. Just scared because it's all new to me. If I want to take things slow... you'll understand, right?"
He thought he knew the answer. As much as he wasn't sure how this was supposed to feel, or if there was even really a set standard for it, he thought one thing was for certain. Jackson wouldn't hurt him, not intentionally. He wasn't going to intentionally push Rocky into something he wasn't ready for, because he didn't want to lose Rocky. He'd waited for Rocky to figure out how he felt. He wasn't going to push Rocky too fast and end up pushing him away. Rocky trusted that, and as much as this might be new or confusing or frightening he felt safe. Jackson made him feel safe. All the same, was it wrong to want to hear Jackson say it?

Jackson licked his lips after the kiss, Rocky's lips tasted so sweet. This was the first kissed Jackson had ever shared and he felt so happy that he got to share it with Rocky, the boy he loved. Jackson stared into Rocky's eyes, Rocky kept saying that he wanted to take things slow and Jackson couldn't help to feel like he was trying to reassure himself more than Jackson. Jackson understood that they both needed to take this slow, Jackson knew that he didn't want to scare Rocky away, he loved him. He was scared already though, he felt that he shouldn't have said the thing about the shirt, he should have just kept his mouth shut. Now Rocky probably thinks that Jackson is some pathetic, obsessed boy. He kissed him though, so that meant something good right? Jackson knew that he had to answer Rocky.
"Rocky, I understand. I want to take this slow too. I just, well, I just don't want to scare you away. I mean, I understand that this is new to you and this is new to me as well. I have never even felt like this before. I have never dated a boy before either. I want to make sure I am doing this all right. I know that i like you and I think, well, I think I might love you" said Jackson with a sideways smile. He never took his eyes off of Rocky's, he was scared if he looked away that something would change, that this amazing dream he was apart of would just end. Jackson moved his face closer to Rocky's and kissed his lips gently, Jackson pulled away and put his arms tightly around Rocky. He laid his head on Rocky's shoulder and held him close.
"I don't want this to end, Rocky. I feel so happy and safe with you. I am sorry if me thinking about you too much scares you. I just this feels right, this feels amazing, and this feels perfect. said Jackson as he kissed Rocky's neck gently. Can we lie on the beach and cuddle?
Jackson didn't move to look into Rocky's face, he was nervous. Would Rocky want to do this? Was this what he wanted? He wanted to go slow with Rocky, he really did, but he felt that he loved him.

Rocky frowned a little when Jackson commented about being worried he'd scare Rocky away. He didn't want Jackson to be scared. He didn't want Jackson to think that things between them could be so easily changed. It had taken Rocky a while to come to this decision, this realization, so if Jackson thought it could be a decision he'd take back any easier than he'd made it... well, he was very wrong. Was Rocky scared? Heck yes. Was that going to change or stop anything? Never. Now Jackson just needed to know that.
"Jackson... I ain't gonna lie. I am scared. I'm scared by my own feelings and by this whole situation, because it's new and it ain't something I understand." What was it about Jackson that drew him out of his shell? He'd never been this talkative with anyone else. He'd usually never say so much in a single sentence. "Fear ain't gonna keep me from being with you. If it were, I wouldn't be here now. I'm here. I love you, and fear ain't never gonna change that."
The expression in Rocky's eyes and on his face was one of determination. He meant every word he'd just said. "My fear ain't your fault, and it will never keep us apart." He was scared, but he was going to face that fear and not let it stop him from being with Jackson. Love was stronger than fear, at least in this case it was. Rocky wanted to be sure that Jackson knew that. He never wanted Jackson to doubt that.
Rocky wondered if Jackson could feel how quickly his heart was beating. Jackson's hand didn't seem to have been taken off of Rocky's chest, or if it had it still felt like it was there. The feeling was still there, like some sort of an after-image. He was nervous and he was in love, the both of those making it feel like his heart was beating at a mad pace. "I..." The question Jackson had asked was an awkward one to answer. He didn't want to disappoint Jackson, and yet he wasn't sure if he was ready for that. It wasn't really much. However, anyone came down and saw them, word of their relationship would probably be all over the camp by dinner. Then again, Rocky had never really cared what the other campers thought, because he'd always felt they really didn't care about him. If someone saw them, so what? It was a risk he was willing to take.
"Yes." Nothing more than that was said, but nothing more was needed. Rocky was still a man of very few words when he could get away with it. That might never change, even despite the fact that he seemed to say far more when he was with Jackson than he ever had before.
