Holly hated Capture the Flag for three reasons. She didn't have the patience to play defense, her own teammates irritated the life out of her sometimes (she apparently wasn't much of a team player), and...the helmets were about as uncomfortable as it got. Hers was much too big for her head so it repeatedly slipped forward when she ran, impairing her vision, and making her have to stop and sneeze when the bristly blue plume tickled her nose. Times she'd tripped and almost fallen because she couldn't see? Five. Times she'd sneezed in the past ten minutes? Nine. Times she'd finally gotten frustrated enough to take off her helmet and throw it at some poor, unfortunate, red team member? One.
It was okay though, because he deserved it. After all, he had the nerve to...well, just stand there. Okay so maybe she felt a little bad about giving him a concussion, but sometimes she couldn't really control her temper, or the fact that she had a strong throwing arm. And of course he wouldn't have gotten a concussion of he had been wearing his own blasted helmet! Kids these days knew nothing about safety. A grin tugged at Holly's lips as she thought to herself 'what a joke'. She certainly hadn't bothered going back for her helmet after she threw it. It was lost in red territory now.
Useless anyhow, if someone wanted to, they could do some real damage even with her wearing the helmet. Only the armor she liked, and even that made her feel a little stuffy and overheated. Huffing to her herself, Holly ducked behind a tree to avoid confrontation with some mumbling, grumbling redhead (and yes, she was talking about his hair, not the plume color...though that was red too). He was so unsuspecting that it would've been easy to disarm him, but she could hardly see a reason to do so. Moving now would just give up her position, and require more energy than she felt it was worth giving. Not to mention if he hadn't made it to blue territory yet, then he must've been essentially useless and therefore no threat to finding the flag.
Bending over to catch her breath, Holly ran the back of her hand across her forehead, removing a thin film of sweat. She'd sprinted the whole way here, excluding the couple of feet where she'd been 'clotheslined' and had slid over rocks and dirt for a ways. Stupid prat who'd done it deserved all the frostbite he'd gotten. After playing this game a couple of times, she'd learned that she was better off if she just sprinted full-out for the other team's territory. Otherwise she just got left behind in her team's territory, fending off the more aggressive players who were trying to capture her team's flag. And while she could handle herself, it was still rather difficult, and it wasn't fun in the least bit.
Straightening up, she leaned around the trunk of the tree, glancing around to make sure the coast was clear. She didn't appear to be in any danger of getting clotheslined again, but she gripped her sword hilt a little tighter as she warily stepped out of the shadow of the towering tree. "Tsk, Tsk, horrible defense, ladies and gentlemen." She muttered under her breath, laughing quietly to herself.

These days nobody was exactly thrilled to have Percy on their Capture the Flag team. For some reason the entire Camp made it their business to know and care about what happened between him and Annabeth. And those who didn’t take a side still shunned him so that the others wouldn’t chastise them. It was a mess. Percy needed these people to follow him into battle at some point in the future against Phobos and Deimos. But people were so wrapped up in the latest gossip they clearly forgot there were bigger fish to fry. No offense Dad, Percy thought.
It wasn’t like Percy had cheated on her or stabbed her. Actually the break up was to prevent the murder of Annabeth by his hands. But that was another troubling matter inside the cluddered head of Percy Jackson. He wasn’t exactly trusted enough to be one of those who personally guarded the flag but he was one of the outer defenses. Percy had already taken out a few Apollo kids and one Demeter girl. He felt bad doing so as she hobbled away after tripping over a tree branch. That wasn’t exactly Percy’s fault. She wasn’t looking where she was going, he didn’t push her. Though he was willing to bet the story would change by the end of the game.
Percy moved through the trees protecting his area of the forest. No signs of anyone else. He could hear the sounds of battle around him but no one in this area. After three minutes of nothing he leaned against a tree trying to keep his ADD mind occupied. His eyes were on the trees and the surrounding area but for one reason or another there was no one in sight. But then, a flash between trees. The sun glinting off a sword, shield, belt buckle something that reflected and caught Percy’s eye. He stood up alert now hearing the sound of footsteps. He ducked behind a tree and watched and waited. It was quiet but then a figure moved out from behind a tree.
Percy silently moved around the other side of his tree and approached from behind. It was a girl with what looked like brownish blonde hair. Percy remembered her from the Khione cabin. She was alone there. Holly was her name. Percy went over all the information he knew about her in his head but since he had never actually spoken with her for an extensive amount of time there was little to go on. She wasn’t a terribly mean person from Percy’s recollection of her. He would just have to go for it.
He raised Riptide and in doing so failed to notice the low hanging branches. His sword brushed them causing noise and a distraction on Percy’s part. He blinked and looked up at the cruel tree that just gave away his position. He cursed in Greek. Now that his presence was known it wouldn’t matter what he did now, she would probably be prepared for an attack. Percy stayed back poised and ready to lunge when necessary.
“Sorry, can’t let you get further than this.” he said. Percy really didn’t want to disarm her so the story could exaggerate to make him seem like a monster to everyone at camp. And he certainly wasn’t too thrilled on relentlessly attacking her for much of the same reason. “So why not just turn around and call it a game? Fair warning.” WORD COUNT //574 TAG // holly!

Holly felt like she was safely in the clear until she heard the distinctive sound of movement. And while she wasn't an Athena kid, she could figure out that the sound wasn't coming from her. She wasn't nearly stupid enough to be that loud. Granted it wasn't like the kid had set off an explosion or anything, but silence was key in this game so any small noise was too much noise. Even the scraping of a sword against a tree branch was a dead giveaway.
Turning her gaze to the other demi-god, she recognized him easy enough. Anyone would. Percy Jackson, hero and currently crowned jerk of the camp. She personally had no problem with the boy, but everybody else was ready to slit his throat in the night. Which was kind of ridiculous. She didn't want to stroke his ego but he had kind of saved all of their sorry butts in the last battle, and now they all turned on him because some Athena kid couldn't take a break-up like a big girl? Sure, she felt bad for this Annabeth girl too, but breakups happened. She wasn't the first girl to get dumped, and she wouldn't be the last, so why did everyone make such a big deal out of it? Did they want him to stay with her even though he didn't like her like that anymore..because that sounded even more horrible than dumping her straight out.
"Smooth move, Mr. Jackson" Her lips twitched up in amusement as she tightened her grip on her sword. He may have been a dork, but he was a dork who was skilled with a sword. She was pretty good herself, but she wasn't sure where her sword skills ranked in comparison with the famous...or now, infamous, Percy Jackson. She didn't like to count herself completely out, so she liked to think she stood a bit of a chance.
"And shouldn't you watch your language, you're supposed to be a role-model here, you know." She grinned, amused because at the moment he was far from a role-model for anybody. Her tone was light and joking, because honestly she was just trying to coax a smile out of him. Good idea too, considering it had probably been a long time since he had been on the receiving end of a friendly conversation...and also because she was using the technique of distract and then attack.
Keeping her defensive stance, Holly roughly pushed a strand of hair out of her face before returning her hand back to her side. "Apology accepted, however you should know, I can't let you stop me." She shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly. "And really, I mean, are you daft?" Holly raised an eyebrow, giving him a look that suggested she thought he wasn't the brightest crayola in the box. "You really think I ran all this way just to turn around because you asked nicely. That doesn't exactly follow the can-do attitude of Camp Half-Blood, mister."
