Ryan didn't work in teams that well. That much was evident from his track record in Capture the Flag and, from a week or so ago, his quest. Rock bottom failure. Then again, what had he expected? To be successful for maybe once in his life? To come out all guts and glory? To think that he had actually done something right and worthwhile in his life? Nope. Quests weren't what everyone made them out to be. Not at all. Sure they spilled guts, but no glory. Just guilt. Unbearable, painful guilt. Screw doing something right in his life. The quest was just there to shove it in this face that he could never do anything right. He lost a camper, and, by extent, a friend. He was too upset to monitor or filter his thoughts, so why not just go with them? Fine. Aria was his friend. And he had let her die. Just like the two friends he had had before her (anyone see a pattern with that?).
With two swords back on him, he had taken back fighting and training after Avery had gotten on him about it. If she was to fight through this, it was only fair that he fight through with her. He owed her that, and so much more. To make things feel like they were back to normal (even though he knew that they never would be again), Ryan decided to just go into the forest for Capture the Flag. It didn't mean he had to help his "team" or whatever, but he'd just go into the forest. He had been participating in this freak game every freaking Friday since arriving, so why stop? Plus, the forest was his second home here, so why not? Maybe it could take his mind off of things. All he needed to do was forget that he had found Blake's body in this forest, had found Ed's body in a similar forest and remember that there were monsters and campers out here that would potentially maul him. No big deal.
The fifteen year old took out his sword. He definitely needed to get back into the arena if he was to get back his strength in his recently mauled to bits left arm. It still hurt like heck, but he liked double swording better than single. Sure, it was on the heal, but not fast enough for him. Grimacing slightly, he transferred the sword to his good arm and just stood, listening to the sounds of the forest around him and hoping no one would come around. As he usually was in the forest, he was prepared. On guard, but still a bit mentally out of it. He was pretty sure that his mentality wasn't going to change any time soon. Any time soon, as in never. He'd probably take it straight to the grave with him.
Ryan sighed, trying to suppress his growing thoughts and emotions. He had already gone crazy once, and he wasn't about to do it again. Not now, anyway. Half biting his tongue and not trusting himself to open his mouth, he put his back up to a large, rather climbable tree. He was in his usual, more secluded part of the forest, but this Game made people come places they wouldn't normally. Plus, the fates hadn't exactly been on his side as of late.
