So... I do this organization called 4H. Every year you get to do a bunch of projects (for money, but they're not supposed to tell you that until you actually turn them in). One of the projects I do is Creative Writing, and that's one I don't do for the pretty ribbons or the two dollars. I love writing. xD But this year, I did my Creative Writing project on a special couple... Harvin. But it's an AU, and they're seven. And it's very short because one of the rules is that, for my age group, it can only be 300 or 500 words. This one is 489.
[/size]Wildflower vendors were not something one found on a normal day in the park, but today an aged woman was standing by the lake with a basket of wildflowers, selling them to passerby.
Seven-year old Gavin was watching one of her customers, a young man, present a girl with a rose when he was tackled from the side by a tangle of dark brown hair and tanned skin.
“I got you!” came the exhilarated cry of his companion as they went tumbling down into the cool grass.
Gavin, however, was not as interested in the game as his friend was.
His eyes were still on the couple, and he stared as the girl threw her arms around the boy and they kissed.
Then Gavin looked back up at his best friend, who was looking down at him with mischievous chocolate brown eyes.
He wondered how Harper would feel if he gave her a flower.
But he did not have any pennies or quarters with which to buy one.
When Harper’s mother, responsible for watching the two for the day, called her daughter, Harper giggled and went to go find her mother.
Left to his own devices, Gavin made a snap decision.
Convinced that Mrs. Marowski, Harper’s mother, was preoccupied with putting sunscreen on her already tanned daughter, Gavin ran off to fetch his best friend a flower.
“Miss?”
The old woman looked down to see the seven-year old looking up at her with wide, innocent blue-gray eyes.
“Yes?”
“Can I borrow a flower?”
The woman’s eyes sparkled with amusement. “Whatever for?”
“I know I don’t have any money, but I wanted to give someone a flower. Can I borrow one?”
He held his breath, crossing his fingers behind him until the lady gave him a response.
“No money? How can I let you borrow a flower if you have no money?”
Gavin began to despair. “Please?” he begged.
“Well, since you were so polite, I have no choice but to let you have a flower.” Little did Gavin know the woman had only been joking.
Gavin watched with wide eyes as the lady pulled out a bright yellow flower and handed it to him. “This is a sunflower,” she explained. “And you can keep it.”
“Thank you very much, Sunflower Lady,” Gavin exclaimed as he took the flower and bowed - like he’d seen his father do to nice ladies.
Without another word, he dashed back to Harper.
“I brought you a sunflower,” he stated as he handed his best friend the prized flower.
Harper’s chocolate brown eyes lit up as she took it, and a bright grin lit up her face before she kissed Gavin on the cheek.
“Thank you,” she chirped before rushing to show off her new gift to her mother.
Little did Gavin know the Sunflower Lady had watched the entire exchange with a kind smile on her aged face.
