Alex had to admit it. Being a mortal stank sometimes, especially right now. Now that he'd met a few half bloods of the Camp, he really wanted to see their Camp. That'd be a bit more than impossible though. For one: there was a gigantic dragon guarding a fleece and a tree that kept mortals and monsters out. Keeping the monsters out was good. The demigods didn't need any monsters in their life if they could help it. However, the mortal part, for him, was bad. He was finding that all of the kids he had run into by the border had been pretty nice. So far he had met Adonia, Addison and Anya. There were a lot of names that started with A around here. Actually, there were a lot of A things in the Greek World, the names of the gods and goddesses included.
Right now he was by his small shelter that he had for himself. It was behind a few trees and bushes so demigods couldn't see him from their side of the border. It wasn't much, just a sort of bed made by leaves and then the rest of his shelter was made by fallen branches and other foliage. The small shelter wasn't professional or anything and the sixteen year old would defiantly get wet if it rained, but it was decent. The weapon that Hecate had given him was residing his pocket as a switchblade at the moment. This had defiantly proven useful; he hadn't used it for fighting, but he had used it for helping him make the shelter. Alex really hoped that he wouldn't need to use the magical weapon for fighting any time soon. The run in with the furies had been enough for him. Then again, he was in equal danger just hanging around the border with the demigods plus he was seeing what he wasn't supposed to, but at least he had some fighting experience.
He tapped his fingers on the ground, listening to the wind move through the trees. It was here, in the forest where he missed his childhood. He had grown up in a rather rural place for nine years. He had liked the streets of the Bronx, but he hadn't liked it nearly as much as the forest. It had been quiet around the border, leading Alex into a lot of boredom. He had mostly been practicing kung fu, sword fighting and taking nature walks. Kung fu, he was getting better at, sword fighting, however, was a different story. He still stank at it; not exactly stank, he hadn't gotten it stuck in a tree again, but he was still pretty bad. Kath had managed to get him decent, and he was starting to think that he would just stay that way for a while. The forest was always beautiful and he had also learned what and what not to eat, so he was pretty okay on food; there was a small stream not to far away as well, so water wasn't really an issue. He'd have to go back to the real city soon, though, just living off the forest was going to drive him nuts!
The mortal took the switchblade out and tapped it three times. Steel dagger please, he thought, imagining one. The switchblade glowed and elongated so that Alex was holding the hilt of the dagger. No matter how many times he did this, it would never cease to amaze him. He looked at nearby tree that he had been using as a target. He aimed the dagger and tried to throw it straight at the root of the tree. Naturally, it was way off. Alex's forte was obviously not weapons. Instead of going for the tree, it sailed over the bush and landed a few feet short of the property line. Alex sighed and started to walk around the foliage, leaving his small shelter that made him invisible and towards the border that separated his world from the demigods. OOC: Sorry if it's a bad start Character Name: Alexander Ruckshack Word From the Character: *sways* All by myself... darn me and my weapon skills. Alone time. It wasn’t something Julia had been getting too much of lately. And usually she would have been alright with it; she loved being surrounded by people and just socializing. But at Camp it wasn’t just socializing. Sure, apparently being a daughter of Aphrodite meant people expected you to spend most of your free time in a bikini lounging around on the beach and flirting with satyrs and other demi-gods; but people still expected all of the demi-gods to learn how to do certain things. Like sword fighting. Julia didn’t like to fight in general, and she certainly didn’t like to fight any more when someone handed her a huge sword and expected her to wear armor that weighed as much as she did. Fighting didn’t come easily for her, even when they’d finally found a sword that wasn’t as heavy as all of the others in her hands. Honestly she’d just be better at making sure that everyone and their pegasi looked pretty before they went into battle if it ever came down to it. And if she got attacked by a monster? Well there was always the option of running. If she hadn’t known already, then that day’s sword practice had made up her, and probably most of Camp’s, mind. She was a lover, not a fighter.
She didn’t feel like being around everyone, risking to hear a joke about her lack of sword skills, so she’d made quick work of heading back to the Aphrodite cabin to make sure she was in order. Of course she was. That was what daughters of Aphrodite did, wasn’t it? Look perfect all the time without trying. At least she could take pride in the fact that she looked stunning while she was getting beat at sword play. Take that, kids of Ares. Almost as an afterthought Julia had grabbed the sword she’d been using; heeding the warning she’d been given about the forest. Something about it being… stocked. Julia’s experience with monsters had been fairly limited, and she’d rather it stay that way. But who knew what she could run into in the forest, and having the sword would be a good thing even if it was obnoxious to carry it around.
After she’d managed to make it a fair deal into the forest without any incident, Julia began to calm down. She could relax and just take in the forest, the blade down at her side just in case. She’d thought about trying to find a way to contact her mother, but who knew when that would happen. After all, she hadn’t been at camp that long and nothing had gone completely wrong, she just felt like something might feel better if they talked. She shook the thought away, not wanting to dwell on it. Julia wasn’t angry at Aphrodite, after all the goddess had to deal with the love life of an entire planet. Julia was just one person. As she walked, Julia realized that she was getting close to the property line. Where that dragon guarded the fleece and the tree. What would she do when she reached the line? Just turn around and walk back? She hadn’t walked off her frustration yet. Maybe she’d just walk the line for a while and think about things before going back and spending some time laying out in the sun.
She began to swing the sword at her side as she walked out of boredom, enjoying the motion. After spending so much time in the city, Julia found Camp to be quite beautiful. The forest began to thin slightly and Julia saw that she had come to the property line. The thing separating her from the world she’d come from. She took a seat on the ground, just staring out into space and thinking. The glitz and glamour of her boarding school and New York City. Maybe she’d get to go back there at some point if things went right with everything at Camp. She was so lost in her thoughts that she almost missed a dagger sailing towards the line, only to land a few feet short. Immediately she jumped to her feet, holding the sword out and debating taking off into the woods and running for camp. But then the person who she assumed to be the wielder of the dagger appeared. He didn’t seem so scary. In fact, he seemed just like any normal teenager. ”I think that belongs to you.” She motioned towards the dagger with her own blade, looking the young man over again. He was pretty cute. A smirk played on her features, ready to turn on the Aphrodite charm to save her skin if it came down to it.

Truth be told, Alex could get lonely pretty easily. The mortal grew up like any normal boy. Well, almost normal, anyway. The only abnormal thing about him was that he could see through the Mist. Hecate had told him that Monsters would come after him because he was seeing things that he should be seeing. He didn't have a hard time believing her after the Furies attacked them. Prior to meeting Hecate, the first thing of the Greek World he had met, no monster had ever attacked him. Wait, scratch that. He had been around a demigod for two years, but neither of them had known it at the time. As for the Monster situation, he wasn't doing himself much good hanging around with gods, goddesses and demigods. If anything, that was just putting him in more danger. Oddly enough though, he didn't mind. It forced to try and improve fighting with weapons just incase something happened. Besides, what was life without a little risk? Even if something else did happen, and he did get attacked again, he'd just go on the defense. Alex didn't go on the offense unless absolutely forced to. Heck, he didn't even really like fighting, weapon or not; mostly weapon, but seriously, what would kung fu do against a Monster?
All of that risk just to be here. He felt sort of accomplished just finding this place. True, he found it with his head, quite literally actually, he still had a slight bump, but he was happy he was here now. Weeks of wandering around aimlessly and being lonely and now this was his reward. He smiled, he liked it very much, mostly because of all the nice people he had met as the result of finding the border. For the most part, Alex liked being around other people's company. Then again, he did have his moments where, sometimes he just felt like being left alone and to his own thoughts. Now, however, after being all on his own for a while, he wanted company. True, he had seen some other demigods, but they had all had to leave. Sometimes he was just by himself for a few days at a time with just himself for company. He didn't really mind, he knew how to entertain himself, but it was nice to see a new face and hear a friendly voice.
The mortal wondered how much gut it took the demigods to wander down here to the border. He had to hand it to them. They were venturing outside of Camp and close to a no safety zone. Once they were over the border, there was no more protection. To think that they were willing to come close to that was really brave to Alex. The borderline still put him in awe. When no one was around he would still put his hand up to it. Naturally, it would never go through. To his mind, it was still insanely cool how it could tell mortals and Monsters from demigods and all the other things that were allowed in there. It was true, he had been resistant to admitting that there was a whole other world and power going on right under his nose, but now, it made sense to him. After weeks of trying to get convinced, he finally was. Alex had seen gods, goddesses, Monsters and demigods in the flesh and blood so he didn't think he was going to stop believing in this world any time soon.
When he stopped to think about it, it was odd to think that he didn't believe in this sort of stuff just a few months ago. That night in Manhattan had changed his life. He had seem statues getting up and walking while at a relatives house. Alex shook his head, sometimes still finding it hard to believe that he was here sometimes. As he approached his dagger he saw another person come into view. It was a girl, and he was thinking demigod since she was on the other side of the border. She also had a slightly lowered sword. Alex eyed it warily, but she pointed it to his dagger, not at him, so he relaxed slightly. "Yes, it is, thanks," he said with a polite smile. "I was aiming for the tree, but I missed quite obviously," he chuckled, shrugging slightly. He approached it, wondering what side it was on. It was a few feet away from the girl and she had pointed her sword to it, so it proabbly was on his side. No danger of hitting his head again. He slowly inched forward towards it, held out his hand and swiped the air above it. His hand didn't collide into anything solid, proving that it was on his side. He picked up the dagger by the hilt, tapped it three times and it turned into a switchblade again. "Nice to see someone new out here," he commented, looking at the girl. "What's your name?" he asked politely. OOC: Lol, no that's fine ^^ Character Name: Alexander Ruckshack Word From the Character: ^^ New person! As Julia looked the young man over she couldn’t stop a few thoughts from running through her head. What if he was a monster? She had only had one encounter with a monster in her life, and that had been at school. With the girl who had serpentine tails instead of legs. She had seemed so normal until she’d turned on Julia and attacked. What was to say that the boy a few feet away was any different? As long as she stayed behind the property line she was safe… But she still didn’t want to take any chances. She took a few steps back, sweeping the area behind him to make sure nothing else was coming out from a hidden spot. Sure, the barrier was supposed to protect against monsters as well, but Julia would rather be safe than sorry. If it turned out that the young man wasn’t alone then Julia would be no match for anyone with her lack of sword skills.
As he approached his dagger he seemed to know about the barrier, which made Julia a bit more cautious. She raised an eyebrow at him, smirking at his story about trying to hit the tree. She wasn’t sure what to believe about that. It could be true. But if he was more than just a mortal then he could easily be lying to get her to underestimate his skills. ”I have to say I understand that. I’m horrible with weapons. Kind of that whole lover not a fighter thing.” A genuine laugh passed before fading away as he tapped the dagger. How did he do that? He certainly was a special mortal if he was one. Her right foot shifted backwards slightly, giving her the look of being ready to run at any moment. She wasn’t sure if that dagger could come through the barrier even if the mortal couldn’t.
”I guess so. New people means they’re finding more of us and getting us back here safely, right?”
And every demi-god found was one more that wasn’t being killed by monsters or tormented by whatever God wanted revenge that day, which was quite a good thing in Julia’s opinion. She knew she wasn’t alone in the opinion, but there were certainly those who would rather the numbers at Camp be going down instead of up. And frankly that scared her. Her name? He wanted to know her name. It couldn’t hurt, could it? She doubted that any harm would come if the young man happened to be in alliance with anyone she wouldn’t like and he happened to learn her name. She wasn’t leaving camp, after all, and her family was quite safe on the other side of the country. Well, other than her mother. But Goddesses could take care of themselves, couldn’t they? And she didn’t have to reveal who her mother was. Her grip shifted ever so slightly on the sword as her gaze moved from the switchblade to the person holding it. ”I’m Julia. Julia Porter.” She approached the property line, reaching one hand out of it in an offer. ”You seemed to be looking to avoid the barrier… So as long as you’re not going to pull me through…” She laughed, flashing him a smile. ”And if you don’t mind me asking, what’s your name and where did you get that rather interesting weapon?” [/blockquote][/blockquote] Outfit: clickyName: Julia Porter WC: 582 Other: PARANOID JULIA

Alex's eyes had gone to the ground. He shifted slightly, sensing that the girl was looking him over. The mortal went to do to one of the things that he did best: try to read her emotions. His gentle brown eyes swept over her once more, making sure not to just stare at her like a predator would. He only glimpsed at her long enough to notice the look on her face and her body was positioned. She seemed a bit more suspicious and wary than the other people he had met here. She looked tense and on her guard. It was further confirmed by him hearing her stepping back. He looked up again; her eyes went off him and looked around the area behind him. Alex picked his head up and automatically turned around to see if anything was behind him. Suddenly, his mind clicked it together. He had been told that Monsters could take on human form. Monsters were really bad news to demigods. So, perhaps she was thinking him a Monster in disguise. Maybe he was wrong, but from the way she was acting, it could possibly be it. He couldn't help a slight smile. She was smart, being on the safe side. True, the others had been slightly alarmed to see a mortal in the forest, but hadn't reacted in quite this way. This girl reminded him of someone for some reason. He looked at his hand with the switchblade in it. Having that in his hand wasn't probably helping. He made direct eye contact with her and then deliberately put the blade in his pocket, then took a couple of steps back to give her her space if she wanted it.
She looked skeptical about his 'I tried to throw it at the tree story'. Alex could of laughed. Paranoid? Slightly, but he was used to it by now. He gave her a smile. "Same here," he agreed, nodding. "I'm horrible in the weapons department," he said straight out. "Got my sword stuck in a tree a few days ago," he remembered, grinning and slightly shaking his head. He smiled. "Understandable," he said, nodding, still trying to read her vocal, facial and body language. More a lover, huh? "I'm really not a fan of violence." At the dagger turing into a switchblade, it looked like she even had become more wary. He didn't even need to look up at her. He heard one foot move back. From her attitude to him before, combined with the faded laughter as she probably stared at his changing weapon, it was giving him the impression that she was set up to run away if it came down to it. Even more reason to put it in his pocket and step back. He didn't want to present himself as a threat. "Please don't run off," he requested, looking at her with gentle eyes. Then he decided to say it flat out; the part about him too, it wouldn't hurt, he had told this spiel to everyone who he had met out here. If he got it wrong, it would be a tad embarrassing, but he really wouldn't mind. "I'm not disguised Monster if that's what you're thinking," he started. "I'm just a mortal who can see through the Mist and who knows about Camp and almost everything else."
He nodded. "Yes, and that's always good," he said, smiling at her. "I never knew there would be so many of you though..." he said, shaking his head in amusement. When he had first been taught this, he thought that they had normal kids like any family, only like two or three. Then when he found out that it was like, by the hundreds and few got to see them, well, that was a big shock. To him, it was sort of pointless to have all those kids and not get to even see half of them, but that was the Greek World. "More demigods in there, means less getting attacked out here." He started to wonder if it was just Monsters who attacked demigods. Probably, who else would know?
Again, with her weariness of him. He couldn't help but smile, yes she did remind him of someone. Alex didn't fail to notice that her grip tightened on her sword or that she was looking at the knife in his hand. He smiled. "Nice to meet you, Julia," he said sincerely. He looked at her extended hand and automatically took it, only then realizing that it was on his side; his hand would of crashed with the wall if it hadn't been. As he looked at her, he tried to think of who her parent was. "Oh believe me, I was," he confirmed, nodding. "I don't really want to find it with my head again," he chuckled. "That never crossed my mind to do that," he told her truthfully. If he had never thought about it before, why start now? "I'm not going to start doing it now," he laughed. Then she asked him his name. "Oh, how rude of me, sorry," he apologized, shaking his head. "My name's Alexander, but any version is fine." Right...the weapon. He hadn't had it out when other people had come to see him. She had to be the first demigod to see that he had something like this. "Oh, it came from a friend." OOC: ^^ Lol, I see. Maybe she was being too cautious, paranoid even. Not everyone she came into contact with was going to try and kill her. That’s just what they made it sound like at Camp. That monsters could be anyone, they could be lurking anywhere and if they sensed a demi-god they wouldn’t hesitate to tear you apart or drag you off to whatever God or Goddess they worked for if that was the plan. And Julia certainly didn’t like either of those options. The only God she’d met was the Camp director, and he didn’t seem like someone she would want to hang around with. Throw in the fact that if a monster caught her then the God or Goddess who ordered them around would probably the evil sort who either wanted to kill demi-gods in an excruciating way or use them to bring about the fall of Olympus… Yeah, not really Julia’s cup of tea there. But the young man probably wasn’t a monster. He was cute, adorable in a ‘mortal who can’t really do anything to hurt me’ sort of way. And he had even put away his weapon. Julia didn’t change the grip on her own sword and probably wouldn’t until she decided she could completely trust him.
”I wish more people thought like you.” She pointed out after he said he wasn’t a fan of violence. ”I mean, fighting is just stupid. It tears down any sort of love between people, not to mention what scars do to your looks…”
There she went again, rambling on about love and beauty. But hey, it was natural for her mind to drift to those things, right? ”I’m not going to run off unless I have good reason to.” She said, starting to relax a bit as she heard him tell his story. A mortal who could see through the Mist? That had to be pretty rare. Julia could see then why he needed the weapon. Well, as long as he was telling the truth about everything. ”Yeah. There are plenty of us. And I mean, there are a lot of Gods and Goddesses running around out there. And having kids is apparently something they’re really good at. Sure we don’t get to see them that often, but they’re busy keeping the world going.” She shrugged, digging the point of her sword into the ground and looking down for a moment. ”We can’t stay in here forever though, that’s the bad thing. And from what I’ve heard people have been able to get monsters inside the barrier before.” She shuddered slightly, not wanting the think of the possibility that someone could bring a horde of monsters into the place she considered safe. She accepted his hand with a smile, finally placing the sword on the ground in an effort to show that she trusted him. If he wanted to drag her out of the safety of Camp and kill her, which he said he hadn’t planned on anyway, then he would have done it already. ”Good to meet you too, Alexander.” She chuckled when he said he found the barrier with his head at first. ”That couldn’t have been a fun way to find the place, could it?” But then the conversation moved back to the topic of the weapon, which Julia had almost forgotten about. A friend gave it to him? What kind of friend gave you a weapon that could change its shape? Especially if you planned on hanging around the entrance to Camp Half Blood? ”Does your friend have a name? Sorry to pry but its just so interesting. I’ve never seen anything like it before.” [/blockquote][/blockquote] Name: Julia Porter WC: 615

After being around his mother and after being attacked the the Furies, Alex could of easily become on edge and paranoid like his brother. It was still an abnormal concept to him that he had a mother. Of course he knew he had a mother, how else could he have come into existence? It was just that the topic of him having a mom or who his mom was, was never discussed between him and his father. Not until a few months ago, anyway. Up until then, he accepted that he was being raised by one parent and that was the end of the story. He had never asked about his mom or anything because he had been raised by his father for as long as he could remember. His mom was absolutely crazy. Kath had to be the perfect definition of a psychotic woman. No offense to her, but he was happy that he had been raised by his dad instead. He kept his eye on her hand which was still gripped on her sword. After hearing about Monsters and everything, he didn't blame her for being suspicious. All he could do now was try to earn her trust.
He smiled modestly. "I'm sure there are plenty of non violent people out there. They just don't tend to announce it," he chuckled. His father wasn't a violent person. He had wanted Alex to take kung fu strictly for self defense and self defense only. Alex had even been hesitant to learn because he didn't want to learn any form of violence. Finally, he agreed to learn; fists or staff, he would use it for self defense and self defense only. He didn't think he had ever gone on the offense, and that had made Kath teaching him Dark Fighting much easier. The mortal had started kung fu when he was nine and over the years, he did learned a lot and he was actually became pretty decent at it; when it had to make a decision between learning sword or staff, he had gone with staff immediately. When he found Kath, she wasted no time in teaching him sword. He managed to become 'decent' at sword. Decent as in rather bad in comparison to staff and spear. "Pointless fighting is dumb, yes," he agreed. He had had way to much experience with pointless fighting and he had seen what it could do to your body. This girl had a point, it could hurt physically and mentally. "Mhm, sometimes the worse fighting and scars don't even have to come from physical contact and weapons," he mused. The mortal had had experience with that too. Alex had no scars from weapons, his only scar was from getting hit by a tree branch, but he knew others who were all scarred up from fighting. However, he knew there was other worse ways of scarring someone. He smiled. "Alright," he said. "Hopefully I won't give you reason to." He saw her start to relax slightly and just hoped to keep moving in the right direction with this.
The sixteen year old smiled. "I'm glad to hear that camp is doing so well and getting a lot of demigods," he said sincerely. It had to be a much better life than getting chased and attacked by monsters. He chuckled. "So I've heard," he said. There must of been thousands of gods and goddesses running around the mortal world and existing under all of their noses. At first, he had thought the twelve of Olympus were the only gods. Boy, he was wrong, big time. "Yeah, understandable with all those different spheres to control," he nodded. Alex watched her dig the sword point in. He nodded. "True." Sometimes he felt bad that they were just cooped up here and ran the risk of getting attacked whenever they stepped out. "Mhm, wasn't that the whole issue two years ago?" he asked. It must of been scary, seeing the only place that you thought safe, become entirely unsafe in just a few minutes.
Alex smiled as she placed her sword down. To him that was a sign of trust. Besides, he didn't think his blade would go through even if he tried, which he wouldn't. "Thanks," he said, smiling at her. He laughed. "No, not really. It did sort of, almost teach me not to run in this forest when I think I'm close to the border though," he chuckled. Alex really hadn't learned fully though. His first impulse was to run in here; people may think him odd, and he didn't mind, but running through forests were so fun! Nature walks were equally pleasing, but running had good memories for him. "I ran into a goddess named Hecate while still traveling in New York," he explained. It wouldn't hurt to tell her, right? "Nah, it's alright. I've never seen anything like this either. It's like something we mortals could come up with in the next hundred years or so," he said with a laugh. "If you don't mind my asking, who's your parent? I have a good guess but I could be entirely wrong." Alex had speculated from her physical appearance as well as their conversation with eachother, but still, some demigods were just different. Some acted nothing like their parent while others showed it as soon as you looked at them. OOC: Tell me if I'm posting to long, I really don't mind shortening. ”Yeah, I’m sure there are. But you know… People are so consumed with trying to get power that they’ll do whatever it takes to get it. Violence included.”
She rolled her eyes, disgusted with the world. If everyone just gave up on fighting then there would be no need for self defense. But as long as the love of power was so strong then there would be a definite need for fighting, even in the defensive. In her mind, almost all fighting was pointless. The only reason one should fight was to fight back… So in truth there was no reason to fight. With her mindset there was no way to start a fight, ergo no fighting. But what could she change? Ares would always be there egging people on to fight and cause war… Just as much as her mother would always be there egging on love and beauty. Julia certainly wasn’t one to fight, in fact she avoided confrontation when she could, but she still had those mental scars from her past. Mainly things with her step-mother, but she had been shipped away to New York early enough that not too much had happened. More that Julia was upset that someone came into her life and drove her away from her father. It wasn’t big, but it bothered her every once in a while. And then things with girls at school, people who insisted that Julia stole their boyfriend, that she was a bit too… friendly. Mostly things she could get over now that she probably wasn’t going back to the place. If she went back to school it would be somewhere else, somewhere that she hadn’t gotten attacked by a monster. ”I don’t think you’ll give me reason to run if you’re not a monster in disguise.” She smiled at him, flashing those pearly whites. It would be good to have interaction with someone other than the people in camp. Insight from the outside world was welcome; though if the young man had been living in the forest then Julia wasn’t quite sure how much insight he’d be able to offer. Still, anything was better than nothing. The young blonde let out another laugh when he chuckled about the Gods and Goddesses. ”I mean, you kind of have to understand. They’ve been around for ages and when love takes hold you kind of just have to let it run its course. Which must happen a lot when you’re around forever.” She shrugged, then looked back at him when he mentioned an incident two years ago at Camp. ”I wasn’t here then, but I’ve heard about it. It must have been terrifying. It was scary enough when my safe boarding school turned into a place where monsters were… But Camp is supposed to be entirely safe, you know?” Well, maybe he didn’t, being a mortal and all… But Julia did. It was a wonder that some of the demi-gods were still there after experiencing that. ”Yeah, I could see where that could be an issue for a mortal.” She chuckled. She was sure that if she was in his situation it might have gone much the same. She wouldn’t have been running, but she could easily see herself wandering around the woods, just taking in the beauty of nature and then finding herself flat on her back after slamming into the barrier. And heck, she probably would have done it a few times before making a mental map of where said barrier probably was. ”Hecate? She questioned, raising an eyebrow. It took her a second to remember exactly who that was, what she was Goddess of. Witchcraft. Magic. Things that Julia didn’t necessarily associate with being ‘good’. She wasn’t going to bring that up around Alexander though. If he thought that Hecate was his friend then he might tell her anything that went on here… He might be spying for the Goddess and not even know it. Of course Julia had never even met Hecate, so she really couldn’t judge. Who knew, maybe the Goddess really was good-natured and just misunderstood. Maybe she gave the mortal a weapon so he could defend himself without a demi-god flinging themselves in the way of a monster. ”Well its good that she gave you the weapon then. It must be good to be able to defend yourself against all the weird stuff you can see.” That’s where the demi-gods had it easy. At least they could tell, in general, when there were monsters around. When he asked who her parent was, Julia couldn’t help but smile. His guess was probably correct; she exuded the essence of a child of Aphrodite, and her words so far wouldn’t give someone the impression otherwise. ”I don’t mind you asking at all. My dad is a mortal, so if you guessed my divine parent was a God you’re wrong already. But my mom is, if you didn’t guess, Aphrodite. Love and beauty all around.”[/blockquote][/blockquote] Name: Julia Porter WC: 832 Other: Ah, no worries. I’m just sorry if mine aren’t always as long.

"Yeah, sadly that's the sort of world we live in today," the mortal said, frowning. "From the Greek World or not," he sighed. Wasn't that what all the wars were about? Power, hate, revenge and differences? Gee, a war could start at the drop of a hat these days. Okay, maybe that was a bit extreme, but what about World War II? One guy didn't like the nose or looks of the other guy so the world had to go into war and so many people had to be lost. Lost as in dead and missing; some even their minds. His father had told him that war did horrible things to some people's mental well being. Alex hopefully would never have to take part in a war. He didn't even want to enlist in the army for goodness sake. All he had was kung fu for self defense; that was it. He didn't want to start or provoke anything; that was why he had put his weapon away. To some people, an unsheathed weapon was just an invitation to fight, provoked or not.
Alex had met a few people who had been mentally and physically scarred for life. It was all dependent on the person's personality though. Everyone had a different reaction. Sort of like every fingerprint was different; every reaction was different. Some people turned it into something great, they learned and could easily live with it. Others turned it into a nightmare and never let it go. Those were probably the two most extremes, and Alex had encountered both ways of looking at it as well as those in between. It was after he had left the country that he had become so interested in reading other people's body, facial and vocal language. Prior to that he hadn't really cared; he soon came to realize that it was important to be able to read people and he got good at it.
He smiled at her. "Well, good thing I'm not one then," he said with a slight grin. Alex remembered his first encounter with Monsters; they were disguised as regular people, so he knew her fear and wariness only to well. It had been a few weeks ago. Odd, sometimes it seemed only a day ago, at other times, it seemed like years ago, so many things had happened. "I got attacked by three. They were disguised as humans. Boy, was it one of the scariest things I've ever gone through," he shivered. "Can't even begin to imagine what its like for you demigods before you reach Camp," he sympathized. It was good to be careful. But then again, being paranoid about it was never a good thing either. You went through your life expecting everyone and anything to attack you. That way was not a good way to live. He laughed. "Yeah, I know. They've been around forever, right? Forever... a time period which I think has been a rather long time," he teased. He thought about that. Alex didn't think he'd like to be immortal. "Oh, you weren't?" he asked. So that must mean that she was a relatively new Camper. "Neither was I. I just heard about it, like you, while I was learning about the whole separate Greek World that has been living under my nose," he said with a smile. "I haven't been living here that long, just a few weeks." He thought about that, how he would of felt if Monsters invaded his home. The one place that people thought was safe. "Yeah... must of been horrifying," he agreed. "Terrible..." he sighed. "There were?" he asked in concern. "Oh, that stinks, I'm sorry to hear that," he said sincerely. "Yeah... I totally understand." He looked up at the tree and the fleece, gently blowing in the wind. Just keep them safe here, please, he requested silently.
The sixteen year old laughed, his eyes bright. "Yup, an issue that left a bump on me," he laughed. Alex liked running through the forest, it held fond memories of his childhood. Before he went running again though, he should make a mental map of this place. He was sort of shocked that he hadn't yet and he had been here for a few weeks. Maybe his shelter was a good place to mark where to stop running. Then again, he could be to far to the right or left of his shelter and still slam into the invisible wall. He seriously needed to spend a day memorizing this place.
"Mhm," Alex said, nodding. Not many people would think that the Goddess of Witchcraft and Magic could be nice. Him meeting and befriending Hecate, may of sounded a bit suspicious to her, but Hecate had proved to be really nice to him. Sure, she was slightly creepy, but she had been nice. She had let him see the world as if he didn't have the Sight which had been interesting. Besides, it was wrong to label people just because of their sphere of control. Some demigods were like that. Some demigods didn't act like their parent at all, it could be the same with the gods and goddesses. He nodded. "It was good, I was sort of shocked at first, but it's been useful," he said with a smile. Useful to help build his shelter, and useful for fighting off Monsters. Even though he could see through the Mist, he couldn't sense when the Monsters were around. At least he had something to defend himself with incase, Hecate had said some of them would come after him just because he could see through the Mist. That was proven by the Furies attack.
"Thanks." He took all that he knew about her so far into consideration, aimed his guess and then waited. "Yup, I got it," he said with a chuckle as she explained her lineage. "Mhm," he nodded. "Love goddess right?" he asked. He was still rather bad with his Greek Mythology and really needed to brush up. Especially if he was hanging around with the Greek World. OOC: No Problem! o.o Eep! Sorry about that post length! The conversation was getting a bit on the dark side for Julia’s tastes, but the mortal had a point. The modern world was so concerned about power. That was why kids went to school, that was why there were armies and weapons and wars and killing… It had been that way since the ancient world even. It was a bit amusing then to know what Julia’s father did for a living. What had paid for everything she’d had growing up. His energy empire. He supplied power to so many people, and had the power to take it away. But that was different, right? She would certainly like to think so. He would never use what power he had to make people suffer; not like what happened in a war. She refused to believe he’d ever do anything like that.
Julia smiled back at Alex, but it faded a bit as he told his story about his encounter with monsters. Three? Wow, she’d been lucky then. Especially with being a demi-god. ”I’m sure it’s worse for some demi-gods… But from what I’ve gathered I’ve been pretty lucky with my encounters. Well, my encounter. I’ve only run into monsters once, and it was only one monster. Some girl at my school who got really angry with me for, in her opinion, stealing her boyfriend… And then she just changed and attacked me. It was pretty terrifying. I don’t even remember much after that.”
She shrugged, shaking off the memory of what drove her away from her school and into the camp. All she could hope for now was that the same thing didn’t happen here, that no one found another way to infiltrate the camp and attack the demi-gods residing there. She followed Alex’s gaze up to the tree and the fleece, smiling slightly. At least the Camp had those to protect them. To keep out anything that would threaten those inside; Julia couldn’t help but think of the fleece as a nightlight that kept out all of the monsters who lurked in the dark. Childish, but it was a good comparison. She listened to him talk about the weapon he’d gotten from the Goddess, still a little unsure whether she trusted the whole arrangement. Hecate just didn’t seem like the type of Goddess to give something to a mortal and not have her own agenda to think about. Actually, none of the Gods or Goddesses seemed that way. There was always their own plan to think of, and mortals usually just ended up being pawns in their little games. Especially when the gift they gave to a mortal ended up being useful. ”You should really be careful.” She warned. ”Think of what you know about Greek mythology. Show me one time that a God or Goddess gave a gift to a mortal and didn’t have their own agenda, where the gift didn’t end up messing up the mortal’s life.” Julia watched him, hoping that he wouldn’t be upset. She was just watching out for him, she didn’t want to see a mortal get hurt because a Goddess thought that she could have a little bit of fun with them. The mood got lighter again when he asked for confirmation about her mother. She laughed, flashing him a smile. ”Love and Beauty.” She replied, ”Hence the whole lover and not a fighter thing.” [/blockquote][/blockquote] Name: Julia Porter WC: 577 Other: Sorry, this is a very short post. Alex had intensely disliked it when his father told him that he had to enroll in some sort of fighting class. The nine year old had spent two years around a somewhat violent person and he had no desire to learn how to fight. He had his choices: it was either karate, kung fu or kick boxing but he had to choose one. There was no backing out of something once his father had his mind set on something. That year, he had his mind set that Alex would learn some sort of fighting technique. Finally, Alex had settled on kung fu because of all the different styles and animal forms. He had thought that had been pretty cool; that, plus the weapons came with it. When it came time to either pick a staff/spear or a sword, Alex went immediately to the staff. He wasn't to thrilled with the spear part, it could become as dangerous as the sword, but at least you had the option to put the spear head on. After nearly seven years of kung fu, he got pretty good at it; he still held true to what he thought though. He'd use it strictly for self defense.
Getting attacked by three monsters was something that was not on his 'To Do' list. At least he had help and wasn't alone when they had sprang out. It had just been a few weeks after learning about the whole concept of another world, so he was still in slight shock and trying to absorb everything. "I'm sure," Alex said, nodding. It was odd though. He had ben around a demigod for two years and they had never gotten attacked by Monsters. "No encounter must be lucky," Alex shivered. "It's down right scary," he said, remembering only to well trying to stab one of the furies with his spear. "Wow," he said. "Not that I want Monsters to go after the demigods in the mortal world, but I honestly thought they'd attack more than once." He looked at her, wondering how she got away. She claimed that she didn't like fighting, and he didn't think she'd have a celestial bronze weapon handy at school. "I'm sure it must of been," he sympathized. "You don't?" he asked, wondering why she wouldn't. Somethings were just like that, he supposed. Where your mind was just to much in shock to absorb and remember what had happened. "And was that your wake up call to come to Camp?" he asked, looking at her. She followed his gaze to the three things up the hill. As long as they were there, nothing could get into Camp and all the half bloods would be safe from the Monsters.
It had been nice for him to get a weapon from her, but at the time he hadn't really thought about it since he was about to be attacked by the Furies. True, he did have his suspicions about her since she was the Goddess of Witchcraft and all, but that didn't necessarily mean that she was evil. Nike wasn't like he imagined a goddess of Victory to be either. She hung around the mortals, was lots of fun and wasn't that stuck up at all (which he thought she would be). Or you could take him for example. He was a son of a complete nut case and had a physco (or that's what it sounded like from him mom) brother, yet he was normal. "Yeah... I know," he said, looking at her. "I sort of wasn't thinking because we were about to be attacked by the three woman and I don't think kung fu would do any good as far as trying to get rid of them," he said a slight grin lighting his brown eyes. The next thing she told him, Alex had to think about. Then he looked at her and just decided to tell her. "I'm a drop out," he said flat out. "I wasn't taught that much Greek Mythology in school. My knowledge is only of the twelve gods of Olympus, and I still mess them up. I was never into the Greek Mythology books and fables and epic poems and such, so I can't tell you," he explained.
The mood got lightened again and Alex chuckled. "Alright then," he said, grinning. "Told you I still haven't got them straight..." he muttered. He nodded. "Yeah, now I see where that comes from." OOC: No, no it's fine ^^ Character Name: Alexander Ruckshack Mood: Happy To: Julia Porter IC Word Count: 766 Made by: Ellie Brigid at Olympian Prophecy

”I guess that a daughter of Aphrodite isn’t exactly the highest on the hit-list.”
She said, smiling a little. After all, most monsters wouldn’t expect her to put up much of a fight, they probably just expected her to break down and beg them to not mess up her face or something. Which she might do every once in a while… But with monsters it wouldn’t come down to being able to talk her way out of a situation. If they came after her they were coming after to kill. ”I’m sure there are some demi-gods out there who could tell you stories about being attacked far more than I could if you looked hard enough. But like I said, a daughter of Aphrodite probably isn’t their most important target right now.” Well hopefully she’d be able to prove monsters wrong one day. She didn’t like violence, but if she needed to defend herself she would. ”Yeah. My dad knew about the place and he finally brought it up and started pushing it to me after the attack… He decided that it just wasn’t safe anymore. I’m definitely going to miss the life I left, but if its safer then I can wait until I know what I need to know.” She shrugged, looking out into the forest again. Not for monsters or anything of the sort, but because she knew what was beyond the forest, the cities and the luxury that didn’t involve learning how to use a sword. That didn’t mean being cooped up in the camp… She shook the thoughts away. If she kept thinking like that she would start becoming like the people she’d heard about who got angry at the Gods. Angry at their parents for throwing them into this place. And then they tried to do things on their own. To live outside of camp or worse, to try and bring down Olympus. ”You just need a weapon, right? And Pandora just needed a nice distracting jar… “ Of course Pandora’s gift came from Zeus, who was supposedly the King of the Gods and therefore trustworthy… Who knew what kind of tricks the Goddess of Witchcraft could play on mortals. ”I just think you should be careful. Gods and Goddesses seem to think that mortals are just their little playthings sometimes.” Maybe she just wasn’t as trusting of the traditionally darker deities, but something with the story from the young man wasn’t quite making sense. ”So… If you know you can’t get into Camp then why are you sticking around? Hoping that someone will be able to find a way for you to get in? I mean, a mortal who can see through the Mist isn’t exactly something you find everyday.”[/blockquote][/blockquote] Name: Julia Porter WC: 477 Other: Sorry, this is a very short post.

"Guess not," Alex said, looking at her and smiling slightly. He started to wonder why some demigods would be high on the Monsters' list and some weren't. Maybe based on their parent and how much of a threat they would present. As the girl had said herself, she wasn't that much into fighting. Some of her siblings could be, not all demigods reflected their parents. So maybe one kid of Aphrodite got it more than another. He had no idea. All he knew was that for two years, the Monsters left them alone in the forest for some reason. It was slightly odd to think of all these demigods on some sort of attack or hit list; the Monsters were like gangs just waiting for the perfect opportunity to attack. He nodded. "True..." he said, thinking. Adonia had said that she had been attacked by a harpy, perhaps she was one of the demigods that was more Monster prone or whatever the word for it was. Looks like the demigod he had known wasn't on the high place on the hit list either. Then again, that had been when they were kids.
"Ah," he nodded. "My mom knew about this place too." His dad didn't know about it though; he was a regular mortal. Alex didn't even realize who his mom was until a few weeks ago. "Mhm, after getting attacked, I can understand that," he reasoned. He nodded. "Yeah... I know how you feel," he muttered. He missed the life he used to lead. The mortal missed living with his father, living in the Bronx and working at a gas station. Alex just had to open his mouth and say that he had seen moving statues. Why didn't he just keep it to himself? If he had, he wouldn't of been kicked out, he wouldn't be here and he wouldn't have to know about his lunatic of a mother. He nodded. "So then this would be the best place to be I guess," he said, nodding over the hill.
He could sort of see this conversation headed in the wrong direction. Alex thought Hecate was fine, apparently Julia didn't. For her to immediately not trust Hecate was like him thinking her as a self absorbed brat when she clearly wasn't. Then again, trust had to be earned and whatnot. He had spent nearly a year trying to get it with one person, so he knew how hard it was to get sometimes. If he went down he wrong road, then it was his fault, he'd learn the hard way. Besides, having the weapon was better than nothing incase another monster came up on him. He doubted kung fu or running would do much good against a monster. "Well... I wasn't going to run for it if that's what you were thinking," he muttered. "I am being careful..." he protested. Seemingly not to her. "Yeah, so I've heard, but they said it happened to demigods too. If you just live your life with suspicion on everyone, its not a great way of living. You've at least got to give them a chance." Although, he had to crack a small smile. She reminded him exactly of someone he used to know. Not trusting, suspicious, slightly paranoid.
"Dunno... I just find it fascinating," he said truthfully. "Besides, I'm going to head back to the city in a few days." He looked at her thoughtfully. "Never thought about that, but no, that's not what I was waiting for," he said. Honestly, he hadn't toyed with the idea of someone letting him in. True, he was curious, but he didn't think that the demigods would like it. He shrugged. "I guess not." OOC: Nah, it's fine.
