((continued from Face Their Fear (in Poseidon Cabin)))
Annabeth sighed when Percy rolled his eyes at her. “Percy, if you have a problem with it, say something. Really. I’m not in this to torture you.” She waited for any sort of long rant; she’d heard from a few other campers how well Percy and Thalia had gotten along at least during capture the flag. And that was just a game. A full-out quest? Well, she knew Percy and Thalia had been on one, but she hadn't heard much in the way of details on that. For now, though, Percy seemed to prefer letting the silence drag out as long as possible, which was actually rather annoying. She was about to snap at him to say something already when he finally did. ‘Interesting’? It took him five minutes to come up with that explanation? She rolled her eyes right back at him. But what else could she do? She wanted someone else she could really trust on the team, and Nick… well, he was one of the few people here she considered ‘family’ since Luke passed on.
“You will let me know if you have a problem with anything, won’t you?” She gave him one more brief hug, then took his hand and headed out of Cabin 3. Luckily, Zeus’ Cabin was all of about 30 second’s walk from Poseidon’s, so they were at Nick's cabin at the head of the U in no time at all. It was such a stark contrast between Poseidon's Cabin and Zeus', one being lower and looking more like it was made out of things from the bottom of the sea and the other a heavy large white marble box. Annabeth let go of Percy’s hand and took the last few steps until she was at the tall, polished bronze doors. Images of lightning dances across the doors in the sunlight, which she was pretty sure would drive her eyes mad any time now if she stood here long enough, so she hurried to knock and tried not to focus on the weird doors. “Nick? You there?” She took a couple steps back so she was near Percy again and spoke in an undertone. “Gods, I hope he is… it was bad enough roaming all camp looking for you. As much as I want to do that again…”

Nick was laying back in his bunk, a target on the wall opposite the foot of his bed. He hadn’t been sleeping much and he had come down to try and catch up on it, but no such luck so he was just laying there and shooting small lightning blasts at the target, and his aim was pretty much right on target. Not that he had much use for it at the moment, he was stuck in camp unable to do anything then sit and wait for trouble to knock on their door. Ironically, the next moment he heard a knock at his cabin door. When he heard Annabeths voice on the other end he smiled to himself. She was one of the few people in camp he felt that he could really count on, the closest thing he had to family since he had left home.
“ Yea! Im coming.” He shouted at the door as he got up from his bunk and went over to answer it, grabbing the lightning bolt shaped handle and opening the door.” Hey Anna….and Percy.” He then added when he noticed that she had company. It wasn’t that Nick wasn’t happy to see Percy, even though they didn’t know another well he thought he was a good guy. Just he had also heard about his relationship with Nicks sister, how they had a habit to butt heads. Not to mention the relationship their fathers had, so he had a feeling they would end up wanting to kill each other or be good friends.
“Um, come on in guys.” He said stepping aside as he watch the two of them walking in, hoping that his father hadn’t rigged the cabin or something. Seeing that Percy didn’t fly much because of his dad, he hoped that the Zeus cabin was a different story. When it seemed that no one was going to be fried he closed the door and walked over to his bunk, leaning against it before giving them both a small smile.” What can I do for you?” He asked, not really sure what they would both want with him.

Annabeth had a way of knowing something was really bothering Percy even if he didn’t say it, at least from what Percy could tell. He wasn’t exactly the greatest at hiding his emotions or even lying. Percy wasn’t trying to hide the fact that this whole quest with Nick bothered him. He trusted Annabeth well enough but there were few here at Camp other than Grover who Percy trusted with his life. He still wasn’t comfortable letting someone else come along. Still, it was Annabeth’s quest and he would have to listen to her and take the sidecar.
He laughed a little, “Annabeth come on, I promise it’s fine. Nick, he’s a great guy and no doubt can handle himself in a dangerous situation.” Percy took her face in his hands and kissed her briefly. He sighed and gave her one of his charming smiles. “You know I won’t.” The smile on Percy’s face grew, “Annabeth, I’m kidding. Just stop worrying about if we get along and worry about if we survive.”
The smile lasted on Percy’s face only as long as they walked the distance between the cabins. He began to feel slightly uncomfortable. When Annabeth leaned toward him with her comment he gave a forced thin smile. He didn’t know if he should be offended or not and for a moment a look of confusion played on his face. He decided to let it go though. Another smile had to make its way to Percy’s face as Nick came to the door. He didn’t let it slip past him how Nick added on his name. He didn’t know Nick too well but if he was anything like his sister, Percy knew the two would argue more than anything.
“Hey Nick.” Percy said. He squeezed Annabeth’s hand and stepped inside moving past Nick. He looked around and cabin for a moment before his eyes landed back on the son of Zeus. “We have uhh, well Annabeth has something to ask you.” He glanced over to Annabeth. It wasn’t really Percy’s place to ask the guy to go along on the quest.

Annabeth resisted the urge to hit Percy on the arm (jokingly, of course) when he acted his usual smart mouth. And even more so at his comment on worrying that they all survive. But she managed to keep some measure of dignity and just ignored it. Better to start all of this on a better note than telling Percy off for being a pain in the butt. How that guy could be annoying and adorable all at once - sometimes - she really didn’t know. But that was a puzzle for another time. Annabeth silenced her thoughts as a familiar voice came from the other side of the door. She smiled when Nick opened the door. “Hey Nick.” There was a pause that made her, not for the first time, rethink this decision as she glanced between Nick and Percy. From the look on Percy’s face alone, she could tell this was going to be… a challenge. Please, may this be the right choice… she prayed silently to whomever might hear.
Unsurprising, Percy took the lead right off the bat. He was a natural leader, which was nice sometimes, but still. This was her quest, and she was rather eager to redeem herself by leading it, however nerve-wrecking it was right now. She shot him one of her usual ‘Percy, do you mine?’ looks, though she severely doubted he even noticed - not that uncommon. She cleared her throat softly and was happy that it didn’t take him long to seem to remember she was still there. She turned her attention to Nick. “Yes. I’ve been given a quest. Percy has agreed to come with me, but I need one more person. I was wondering if you would come.”

When they both walked in Nick got the vibe that Percy didn’t know what to make of him really as much as he did him. Which was understandable, all they could do was see how things went. He was looking at Percy until he told him that Annabeth had something to ask him, he then turned his head to his friend expectantly. Though when she asked him if he would go with them on the quest he stared at her for a moment. Seriously? A chance to get out of camp and try and do something worth anything.” Of course, you know Id have your backs.” He said with a soft smile, yeah he didn’t know Percy that well and they would probably end up at each others throats on the quest. Just he was already a hero, and he meant a lot to Annabeth so Nick would have his back.
“ But your sure I’m the one you want?” He said as he sat down on his bunk and looked at them both before his eyes settled on the daughter of Athena again, since it was after all her quest. Just if she was sure, he definitely wasn’t going to let either of them down. He ran his hand threw his hair for a moment.” But I guess I should ask though, what’s the quest?” He said knowing he probably should of asked that first, but hey if it meant helping a friend and being able to go on a quest he probably would have agreed to go to Hades.
((annoyingly short Im sorry >.>))

Percy glanced over to Annabeth and caught the look she gave him. His lips grew thin and he turned her head away from. His eyes went soft as he gave her a quick apologetic glance. He didn’t mean to jump out and start things off. It just sort of happened. Percy swallowed and shut his mouth tight. He wouldn’t say another word about the quest. This one belonged to Annabeth and it was her job to give out the info. He acted the good little boyfriend and slid his arm around Annabeth’s waist. Percy’s eyes stayed on Nick assessing the kid. The same conclusion came over again. The guy was a tank. he was tall and well, he made Percy look like a 12 year-old.
Percy did good on not answering Nick’s first question. It was Annabeth’s final say so on who went on the quest. Percy had no say in the matter, even if Annabeth had wanted his opinion. His opinion was that Grover would be the only choice but G-Man was elsewhere. He missed his best friend and knew a quest wouldn’t exactly be the same without him. Percy was drawn from his thoughts when Nick asked about the details of the quest. He opened his mouth again without thinking.
“Lake Superior seems to be our destination. We’re not sure exactly what we are looking for. Something about the other half of a whole.” Percy shrugged. “But at least we know where to look. I’m guessing it’ll kind of just pop up at us.”
Percy paused and slowly turned his head to Annabeth realizing he had taken the reins again. A guilty smile slowly formed on his face. “Sorry. I was just trying to move things along. I mean we need to head out asap.”
He swallowed and looked back to Nick hoping he wouldn’t get in too much trouble with Annabeth. He pulled her closer to him and kissed the top of her head. He was trying to butter her up. Hopefully it worked. But she was normally able to see right through him. (argh so short)
