Rachel had a bad feeling. The previous night she had a disturbing dream that she was unable to shake. Rachel found herself watching Percy, Annabeth and Nick battle some short guy in a leather jacket. She only caught flashes of what looked to be a battle. The last thing she saw before jarring from her slumber was the piercing blue eyes of Luke Castellan. Rachel couldn’t string the events together but something was a miss. Why had she been seeing Luke again, he was killed two years ago, by his own hand?
With an open sketchpad on her lap Rachel sat absentmindedly drawing what she had seen last night The red eyes of the kid in the leather jacket were contrasted by the equally bright eyes of the son of Hermes. Her fingers were stained with shades of rouge and blues. The pastels she had recently bought sat in a small tin box off to the side. Most of them had been used down to the last little piece. Rachel breathed in held it for a second before exhaling deeply. She ran her fingers through her red hair leaving behind streaks of color. Ignoring the new hair style Rachel stared down at the image she had drawn. Angry and frustrated by the confusing dream Rachel flipped the page to have a fresh start.
“Stupid Seaweed Brain, stubborn Wise girl, rotten….Electroman.” Rachel grumbled as she began to angrily sketch again with a piece of black pastel.
She tried to draw something else, anything else but that dream. After a few minutes Rachel sat back and realized she was doing some finishing touches on Percy’s green eyes. Rachel huffed and threw the pastel she was holding far from her as possible. Taking the sketchpad Rachel lifted it over her head and chucked it across the grass. It fell to the ground, pages bending and folding unevenly.
Crossing her arms over her chest like a three year old having a fit Rachel glared at the sketchpad. Her stomach churned in pain as she thought about Percy. Had she been lying two years ago when she said didn’t like Percy like that. He had lead her to her destiny but he still held a special place in her heart. Rachel could not deny that. She also could not act on the emotions for multiple reasons. Reason one being that she was the Oracle and dating was an absolute no no. The second reason and the most important reason was that Percy belonged to Annabeth. He was completely smitten with her and she with him. Took the two of them long enough to figure it out though. Rachel was jealous of Annabeth and maybe that was why they clashed. If she could only get over the feelings she had for Percy there could be a chance that the two of them could get along famously.
Rachel frowned and continued to glare at the evil sketchbook. She wouldn’t forgive it anytime soon that was for sure. Sucking in her bottom lip she began to chew on it unable to clear her mind of the flashes of action from her dream. She prayed to the Gods, it didn’t matter which one, all of them maybe if that would help. Anyway, she prayed to them to bring Percy, Annabeth and Nick son of Zeus back safely. Celeste had just taken a break from her daily duties, well the stuff she did every day since she could remember. The dead were defiantly restless about something, more and more of them called to her while she slept, whispering secrets and stories. There had to be a reason for all this madness, something was going on, no doubt about it. Celeste couldn’t quite figure out what was on, but from what she had been gathering by the hundreds of ghosts that she’d encountered, it was pretty big.
There was a brief moment of silence, and Celeste peeked out with one eye open, slightly concerned why everything went deadly quite. Nothing had changed; there was still her basket of strawberries beside her, with the blanket sitting on top. Wait, that slight ghostly glimmer shone in front of her, which definitely wasn’t there before. Opening both eyes, Celeste stared at the ghost, and sighed loudly as she recognised her best friend. “Danny! For the love of Hades, I told you to go away until tonight.” she snapped, her hands waving around more than usual. It was one thing to deal with him every single time she used her powers, it was another thing to have him there when she didn’t call him. The ghost boy opened his mouth at her, edging to hiss some sort of reply, but thought better of it. “But Cellie! It’s really important!” he cried, running up to embrace her with a hug. Celeste was pissed off at Danny for interrupting her peace, and was having none of this stupid talk. “Go away, Shoo! We’ll talk tonight—No, I mean it this time!” she hissed, and flicked her wrist at him, shattering his ghostly form from her sight. Were he ended up, was another thing entirely.
Celeste leant back on the grass for a moment, and picked a strawberry off the pile, nibbling it a little before scanning the field. The sky had darkened somewhat since she had first arrived, which indicated that she had been asleep for quite a while. Quite a wonder why no one else had noticed her asleep, most ghosts found it more fun to scare the crap out of her if she was asleep, some sort of joke that had been playing with. The daughter of Hades yawned quite a bit and felt a slight grin cross her face as she remembered the first time she had met Rion.
It was the same place, not even a km away from her at that moment. The tree was still growing in beauty and kindness, after the protection amulet that had been placed on the branches. Celeste picked up another strawberry and closed her eyes to the memory, long enough to hold the image while she stayed awake to watch for any signs of moment. It took a moment for her to become aware that someone else was within sight of her. Celeste glanced at the back of the girls head for quite some time, before she lifted herself off the ground and approached her, basket in hand.
“Have you ever thought of drawing part time? All that prophecy stuff must be really doing your head in. It’s nice to take a break every now and then eh? she said, plonking her basket beside the other teenager before sitting next to her. Celeste knew who the girl was; the beautiful hair gave it away in an instant, along with the drawing book. Being around a while, Celeste had noticed everyone talk about Rachel, nearly as much as Percy and Annabeth, which was defiantly saying something. Celeste opened the basket again and pulled out the strawberries, holding it out to the teenager, “Sorry, I forgot my manners. I’m Celeste Rose, daughter of Hades. Not that I have much choice in the matter, the title does makes me cringe.” she admitted lightly, a small smile on her face. It’s sad how most Demi-Gods had to add that Son of or Daughter of thing at the end of their names. Just makes life all that more harder to deal with as they started to grow older. count : 699 tags : Rachel Dare noted : I’m so sorry! Rachel grabbed a handful of grass and tore it from its roots. She looked down at the green pieces in her hands and began tearing it into even smaller pieces before tossing them aside. She had a strange feeling swirling around in the pit of her stomach. Something was coming, something big. And it was gonna start with Percy, Annabeth and Nick’s return. Swallowing hard Rachel tried to think of anything but.
The voice of another camper caused Rachel to jump slightly. She hoped to get one day in without prophecy related stuff. Turning her head to the girl Rachel smiled as the girl obviously knew who she was. That was refreshing, a camper who knew her…wait. If this girl knew who Rachel was why the Styx was she coming around her? Hadn’t she known that there had been a truck full of prophecies running out of her mouth lately? Rachel didn’t say anything that might be considered rude. This girl had a death wish though.
“I was going to draw full time before all of this happened. I was hoping to talk my parents into letting me go to a good art school.” Rachel tucked a strand of her red hair back behind her ear. “Between you and me I kind of hate drawing at the moment. It’s not something I want to see.”
She looked over and smiled receiving the offered strawberry. Rachel murmured hanks and took a bite. She nearly choked on the bite as Celeste introduced herself. The girl had looked vaguely familiar. Rachel nodded, “Sorry. It’s kind of bitter.” She cleared her throat and spoke again. “I’ve seen you around and I’ve heard about you. And I must say it’s nice to finally meet you Celeste. You apparently know who I am so I guess the only introduction I can give is, if you hear me sing off a prophecy don’t be surprised.”
Rachel wasn’t even joking. She was dead serious. This prophecy business was getting out of hand and no one had returned from their quests yet. So many demi-gods had gone and Rachel could only imagine what was going on. Camp was completely vulnerable. What happened to people coming to her for a quest? Ask and you shall receive and all of that jazz. Rachel finished the strawberry and cleaned her fingers off on her pant leg.
“You think your title makes you cringe? Think about having the title of Oracle and what comes with that. Besides, I’ve met your brother Nico before and he’s an alright kid. A little confused at times but all around he’s not a total loss.” She said picking at a hole in her jeans just making it bigger. Rachel turned to say something else but suddenly the pressure in her head grew extensively and everything went black.
Rachel’s turned toward Celeste, her eyes were a brighter green and fogged over. Her voice when she spoke next was slightly different, it seemed to create it owns echo.
Within the silence new hope will ignite Search for the star that will win you the fight Upon the golden shore your quest will take Blood of the enemy you will mistake Ghosts of the past come into play Sending the most brave souls astray Daughter of riches you alone will prevail And watch the other half-bloods doomed to fail.
When she had finished speaking Rachel’s head fell back to her chest. The next second Rachel blinked and looked up. Her eyes returned normal. Rachel brought her hands up to play with her hair as if nothing had happened. “You shouldn’t let the title of Daughter of Hades get you down. I don’t think you’re a bad—“ She stopped for a second. Rachel sat up a little, “Don’t say anything, let me guess I gave yet another wise and dangerous prophecy?” OUTFIT: H E R EWORD COUNT:640
